### 2/5 — Good but clunky

*2025-11-04, version 2025.36*

The idea of the app and the way you can see all your holds and checkouts is great, but at least once a week it unlinks some of my families linked cards, and ever since the latest iOS update, it’s now occasionally completely logging me out as well and then when I log back in I have to re-link all my family members cards again as well. If it wasn’t for the constant unlinking, it’d be 5 stars.

### 2/5 — Can’t open

*2024-11-23, version 2024.37*

Just crashes on my iPad without loading

### 2/5 — Logs out

*2024-09-05, version 2024.17*

Since updating the app continually logs me out every day, as a family who uses the app daily it’s extremely frustrating

### 3/5 — Sick of having to log in

*2024-06-19, version 2024.17*

While extremely happy with the function, the last update has become too fancy & “glitzy” for the average user. I am also very sick & tired of having to log in at least fortnightly & this week 3 times.!!!!!
Major issue with the developers.

### 2/5 — No option to turn on notifications

*2023-10-31, version 2022.2.2*

This app used to be fabulous! I’d get a notification when held books were available or if checked out items were overdue. Now, there’s no option to turn on notifications (including in phone settings, the app itself, or in desktop account), meaning holds are missed constantly. The emails that are sent out seem to arrive 2 days before a hold expires and with reduced opening hours, it’s difficult to get into libraries during business hours. There are parts of the app that simply never load and the spinning wheel of doom just goes on and on and on. Not sure why such a fantastic app has become so poor over the last year :(

### 3/5 — Faulty update

*2023-01-04, version 2022.1.6*

Since recent update the ‘limit to’ filter at the bottom of the screen is obstructed’ making it hard to change from my home library to all libraries.

### 1/5 — Rubbish

*2022-03-01, version 2020.2*

Bring back BookMyne. Is App is so buggy and slow slow slow. Searching the catalogue is a nightmare. BookMyne was solid and work well with a easy user interface. If your going to force people to use this App, then make it work efficiently.

### 3/5 — Please lower the 17+ rating

*2021-10-01, version 2020.2*

I love using this app but don’t know why it’s set to a 17+ age rating - meaning that my kids can’t download it to their devices. Takes me ages to reserve all their books rather than them independently ordering them. Can this please be resolved?

### 3/5 — Libraries SA app

*2021-08-19, version 2020.2*

It’s good that the library is keeping up to date with having the card barcode so you don’t have to take the physical card with you.
Would be good to be able to change your details on the app, like address, email, phone number, and your notification preferences (to avoid going into the library just for this).
It would also be good to have a section to submit feedback to the library (I would like to let them know that the new digital magazine reader is terrible compared to the previous).
Good app but would be nice to see the above improvements.

### 3/5 — OK - but

*2021-02-11, version 2020.2*

Great at finding books in the libraries system and ordering them, but let down by the ebook reading experience.

You cant go to full page view and are stuck with menu bars etc across the top which is really distracting. Should be able to get rid of any clutter so you can focus on the content.

No menu bars on a real book page.

No option to adjust font size or typeface. I know you cant do it on a book, but hey, this is the digital age and all the other readers have done that for years. Where is the commitment to accessibility?

Ebook part of it very poorly implemented.

### 3/5 — Statuses of items on hold are not clear

*2021-01-29, version 2020.2*

It is greasy to be able to search and place books on hold, however...
As a user, I want to know what the status of my book is when I look at the list of items I have requested.
All names seem meaningless: AVAILABLE, BEING HELD, PLACED
When I asked at the library they told me these where more statuses from the library perspective, not the user.

### 3/5 — Good but could be better

*2020-11-25, version 2020.2*

I find I am using the outdated BookMyne app instead because that at least tells me if an item is in transit. Seeing a status of Placed tells me nothing. I don’t know if I’m likely to be waiting a week or a year. Please improve by 1. Allowing In Transit status to be displayed, 2. Add my place in the list (yes I know the concerns - just add a disclaimer that the order may change) - at least this way I can make a judgement on whether to keep holding onto book 3 while waiting for book 2, and 3. Add in My Lists

### 2/5 — No ‘my lists’

*2020-11-15, version 2020.2*

Ok app. But no access to ‘my lists’ in my account which is a real shame

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Bug report

*2026-06-23, version 2026.10*

Catalogue search functionality in app seems to be broken. Anything I search returns no result rendering the app unusable.

### 1/5 — It used to be great! What happened??

*2025-08-09, version 2025.24*

Searching in the app catalogue has become utterly ineffectual; known titles that are borrowed under my card don’t show .. zero results for every book I’ve looked up. So disappointing. Why break what was a great app?! :(

### 1/5 — Loses log in details

*2024-09-16, version 2024.17*

Everytime this app updates I lose my log in details. No idea where my physical card is!

### 1/5 — Does Not Work

*2024-07-06, version 2024.17*

I have never been able to open this app. It seems to crash every time I try 🙁

### 1/5 — Old app worked well, latest iteration won’t even open.

*2024-06-15, version 2024.17*

Congratulations, developers, you’ve just locked out an entire community of people who don’t have, need, or maybe just not want the latest tech and updates needed to make your shiny new, divisive, and clearly elitist app will work. Slow clap goes here.

### 1/5 — Working well until the most recent update

*2024-06-05, version 2024.17*

Now unable to open the app...even after restarting the device and reinstalling the app.

### 1/5 — Provision for linked member doesn’t work

*2024-05-29, version 2024.15*

Very poor app. Works OK for checking one person’s history, but if you link someone else to your account they cannot check their details easily at all. App needs a lot of work !

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2024-05-03, version 2024.15*

This new update and new look is terrible. It is not user friendly and doesn’t make sense. I will try to avoid using it until it changes. Not a fan!

This app is so bad now. You can’t even see information about the item you would like to borrow, like the songs on a CD for instance, that’s if you can even find the item you are looking for at all. Useless, completely useless.

### 1/5 — The app update doesn’t work

*2024-03-12, version 2024.5*

I just missed out on a book I had been waiting three months for because the app did not show that the book was available to download. I check the app at least once a day, and it just showed it was ‘waiting’ ie waiting to become available. I am beyond angry!

### 1/5 — Worst update ever

*2024-02-26, version 2024.3*

Since the update two weeks ago the app is now so utterly rubbish as to be pointless.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love the new app icon

*2022-12-12, version 2022.1.6*

I really like the new app icon. It makes it easier to spot the app amongst hundreds of apps I have on my phone.

### 5/5 — Language options - Bork!

*2022-10-07, version 2020.2*

I have just rejoined my library after a long break, and love the digital card option.

I have only used the app for 5 minutes, but already my favourite feature is that in my language options I can select “Bork, bork, bork!” as my language, and it changes all menu options to the word Bork…!!

To add to my delight, I am now Mrs Hurdy! Lovely nod to the Swedish chef, but why this is an option in a library app I have no idea…! 😆 5 stars for entertainment value!

### 5/5 — Ancestry Link Has Gone?

*2022-04-16, version 2020.2*

Great resource but what happened to the Ancestry link in the Online Resources Page?

### 5/5 — Happy little vegemite

*2021-01-14, version 2020.2*

Love using this app for reading books and audio books offline. I also like being able to defer books if I am not ready for them allowing someone else the opportunity to borrow them first while I stay in line.

### 5/5 — Update

*2020-06-24, version 2020.1*

I’m experiencing the same issue on my new iPhone SE 2020.

### 5/5 — Update

*2020-03-26, version 2019.5*

Yes a good app but every time I open it on my iPad I get asked to upgrade. It’s getting a bit frustrating.
Any ideas in why this keeps happening.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2020-03-02, version 2019.5*

Easy to use, my card is with me all the time and I can manage everything via my phone!

Well done SA Libraries!

### 4/5 — Recent updates

*2026-04-28, version 2026.10*

Love the app but noticed that my music player on my iPad stops playing when I open the app. Otherwise love being able to borrow from my library without using the card. Cheers

### 4/5 — Wish list?

*2025-03-17, version 2024.37*

I love this app, and love my library service. One thing that would improve this app is the ability to create wish lists or reading lists of books. Then, when I am ready to read them I could move them to my Holds list within the app. Sometimes I hear about a book, but I have too many books in my reading pile and I’m not ready to borrow more books. It would be good to have a way to flag these books in the catalogue.

### 4/5 — Restricted to 17+???

*2022-01-30, version 2020.2*

Hi.

The app is good and offers the features you need to interact with the library. My concern is that it’s rated as a 17+ app. Why? The library is offering access to library cards to children under this age group, why can’t they have access to the app to manage their loans and holds with the library?
