## What is LiDAR WiFi Planner?

LiDAR WiFi Planner turns your iPhone, iPad, or Mac into a complete Wi-Fi site-survey and network-diagnostics toolkit — for homeowners, installers, and IT professionals.

Scan any space with built-in LiDAR to create a floor plan in seconds — no tape measure, no guesswork. Then walk the site, tap each test location, and the app measures real download speed, latency, jitter, and packet loss, interpolating them into a heat map that shows exactly where your Wi-Fi is strong, weak, or dead. Survey once; review every metric afterward.

RECENT UPDATES
• Aruba Mobility Controller / ArubaOS 8 (Aruba Instant MD) support — a dedicated dashboard with clients & roles, Channels & RF, AP-group hierarchy, and controller licensing; real per-client SNR now feeds the survey heat map (strictly read-only)
• Now on Mac — a universal app: buy once, use across iPhone, iPad, and Mac
• Network Tools: multi-host Ping monitor (watch an entire subnet by CIDR), MAC/OUI vendor lookup, subnet calculator, and Bonjour/mDNS service discovery

IMPORTANT NOTES
iOS restricts third-party access to Wi-Fi RSSI, so the standard survey uses real-world throughput — download speed, latency, jitter, packet loss — as a signal-quality proxy. Results can be affected by ISP line quality, test-server choice, local load, and device performance; treat them as planning guidance. Pairing a supported controller unlocks true per-client SNR for higher accuracy. Aruba Instant (Virtual Controller) and Aruba Mobility Controller / ArubaOS 8 are supported via their official public REST API, and every controller feature is strictly read-only. This app is an independent third-party tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Aruba or HPE.

Free to download with full features and one floor plan. Manage more floor plans via an in-app subscription.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.3 — 2026-07-29

Version 2.3

• Network devices: scan your Wi-Fi subnet and list every device with its type, IP, hostname, open ports and latency; with a controller connected, real MAC addresses, manufacturers and the associated AP are filled in too.

• Speed test: the new "Local server" source automatically offers nodes local to your region, measured across multiple points at once; the new "Speed test history" logs every run's result, the node actually used, and the time.

• Acceptance reports can now carry your own company name and logo.

• Controller: the new "Client registry" records currently connected devices as a baseline, so new arrivals stand out later; the configuration health check can now ignore individual suggestions and adds an interference-immunity (ANI) check; the client list marks the device in your hand.

• New experimental features (enable in Settings): Device management — read-only SNMP monitoring of switches, routers and firewalls; repeater-placement suggestions; 3D room-model floor materials (iPhone & iPad).

• Fixes: speed-test timing leftovers, ICMP replies now validated by source and sequence, quick retest no longer deletes the old point first, band misdetection for some devices, plus many stability improvements.

### 2.2 — 2026-07-10

Version 2.2

• Refined 3D room model (iPhone & iPad): after a scan, the 3D model is dramatically improved — doors and windows become real openings (framed, with glass and sills), walls gain baseboards, floors get a procedurally generated wood grain, and all 16 furniture types are redrawn in far more detail. This is an experimental feature — turn on "Experimental features" in Settings to try it; the standard 2D floor-plan scan is unaffected and needs no setup.

• Filter the controller client list four new ways — by band (2.4 / 5 GHz), AP, SSID, or manufacturer (identified offline from each device's MAC address, Apple first, with a "private address" option for randomized MACs). Filters stack with search, sorting, and the weak-signal toggle. Works with both Aruba Instant VC and MD.

• Choosing the wrong controller type (VC vs MD) now shows clear guidance instead of a generic login error, and switching between multiple controllers no longer leaves the previous one's data on screen.

• Fixes: latency, jitter, and packet loss no longer show blank when the gateway ignores pings (the app falls back to the speed-test host, then to public references); the real-scene bird's-eye backdrop no longer extends past the walls; plus many localization and reliability improvements.

### 2.1 — 2026-07-04

Version 2.1 — Aruba Mobility Controller (ArubaOS 8) support.

This release adds a powerful new option for advanced users running controller-based Aruba Wi-Fi.

• New controller type — Aruba Instant MD: connect to an Aruba Mobility Controller / ArubaOS 8 managed device, alongside the existing Aruba Instant VC support. There's no separate "enable API" step — just create a read-only management login and commit the config on the controller, and the app talks to its /v1 REST API directly.

• A dedicated MD controller dashboard:
 – Clients & roles: each client's user role, VLAN, forward mode, 802.11k/v/r roaming, and negotiated PHY.
 – Channels & RF: per-AP channel overview, neighbor and rogue-AP scanning (with SNR), and DFS/ARM channel-change history with radar events flagged.
 – Controller & licensing: model, firmware, release type (LSR/SSR), role, and status, plus license capacity (AP / PEFNG / RF Protect).
 – Per-AP detail: model, serial, uptime, client count, and 5G & 2.4G channel and EIRP.

• AP-group hierarchy: browse every AP group and the profiles it actually binds, bucketed into Wireless LAN, RF management, AP, QoS, IDS, and Mesh. Remote APs (RAP) and Campus APs (CAP) are listed separately.

• Real per-client SNR, read straight from the controller, now feeds the survey heatmap — far more accurate than the throughput-only proxy used in brand-agnostic mode.

Every controller feature is strictly read-only and never changes your controller's configuration.

### 2.0 — 2026-06-25

Version 2.0 — now on Mac, plus powerful new network tools.

• Now on Mac: LiDAR WiFi Planner is a universal app — buy once and use it on iPhone, iPad, and Mac with the same Apple ID.

• New "Tools" tab: a multi-host Ping monitor that watches an entire subnet at once (enter a CIDR like 10.0.0.0/24), fully offline MAC/OUI vendor lookup, a subnet calculator, and on-device Bonjour/mDNS discovery of AirPlay, AirPrint, Chromecast and more.

• Coverage Advisor: analyzes your survey to pinpoint the largest dead zone and suggest where to add an AP or extender.

• Before/After comparison: save a baseline, change your setup, and see the coverage improvement side by side.

• Major controller upgrade (advanced): a unified client view, Channels & RF, controller status, real-time per-client RF trend charts, application & traffic visibility, neighbor/rogue scanning, AirGroup discovery, and uplink/WAN failover — all strictly read-only.

• New 6-tab layout so iPhone shows every section without the "More" menu.

• Many refinements and fixes across surveying, exporting, and controller monitoring.

All controller features are read-only and never change your controller's settings.

### 1.2 — 2026-06-24

What's new:

• Professional inspection PDF report: Generate multi-page A4 reports with per-metric heatmaps, numbered survey data tables, pass/fail thresholds, and a signature block — ideal for WiFi installation handover.

• Adjustable metric thresholds: Set your own pass/fail cutoffs for latency, jitter, and packet loss. Heatmap colors update instantly, with a built-in guide for each metric.

• Re-test any survey point: Tap any existing point on the map to select and re-measure it in place — no need to delete first.

• Per-plan measurement settings: Assign different speed-test sources and controller profiles to each floor plan, perfect for managing multiple sites.

• Settings backup & restore: Export all preferences and controller profiles to iCloud Drive; controller passwords can be encrypted with a PIN.

• Enhanced 2D floor plan export: New JPEG and TIFF formats; optional scale bar, metric grid, and room area label; fixed rotation not applying on export (SVG/DXF also fixed).

• 3D model viewer improvements: Brightness slider, bird's-eye gesture navigation, wall-align, and photo export.

• "Refined Room Model" scan mode (experimental): Scan with RoomPlan to generate a warm-lit 3D model with procedurally generated furniture; can double as a WiFi measurement backdrop.

• More complete scan coloring: color captured across the whole scan is now kept, so the aerial backdrop and 3D room model have far fewer gray, uncolored patches; the 3D model also automatically removes stray floating specks far from the room.

• Object Capture initialization fix.
