### 2/5 — No way to have white noise to sleep

*2025-02-10*

This app has great sounds. But they're only for alarm. If I try to run another app for white noise for falling asleep, then it cancels this app. Disappointed, because I like you can select amount of time to increase light and sound separately. As I mentioned the sounds available are very good quality. Let me use this to fall asleep too and keep white noise running during the night, and I'd get it again.

### 4/5 — Should have been 5

*2023-11-22*

But phone isn’t completely dark otherwise this would be pure gold!! Please fix it deserves a five

### 3/5 — Volume control needs work

*2022-11-04*

I like the gradually brightening light. The problem is with the volume. Adjusting the volume of the alarm adjusts the entire phone system volume rather than only that of the alarm. Therefore the only way to turn off the alarm sound is to turn off all of my other app sounds and notifications.

Also be aware that the ads run on full brightness on the screen all night which is very distracting.

### 4/5 — It’s free

*2022-11-02*

Pros: It’s good that it is free. The brightness is enough to make me stir in the morning and the crickets wake me fully, it’s lovely to wake without a sudden alarm that makes my heart jump out my chest!
Cons: It has an advert bar along the bottom that is bright all night but I cover it with a book and I can’t play my audio sleep app as my phone can only use one app at a time, soo I chose the light app over the sleep app.

### 4/5 — Not quite dark enough

*2022-09-22*

The app works wonderfully, and the light is pleasant, and the bird song very effective. However, during the night yep must run an ad in a bright white band across the phone screen. This creates additional light which, to someone triggered by light for waking, is troublesome and the phone screen needs covering at least in part to get enough darkness to sleep.

### 3/5 — Advert light is too bright

*2022-09-17*

I love the idea of waking up gradually with a simulated sunrise.

Unfortunately, there's a bright white advert which you can't remove and it keeps me awake.

Love the idea but the advert ruins it.

### 2/5 — Works ok but

*2022-09-14, version 7.6*

This app works ok but I can’t figure out how to make the screen completely black. Also no way to dismiss the advert after seeing it.

### 4/5 — Almost awesome!

*2021-10-05*

I definitely like waking up to tweety-birds and a soft glow, but the interface is a bit weird. Too bad it doesn’t run in the background, and changing the time is chunky, but otherwise, I like it a lot. Worth it.

### 2/5 — Good app except ads

*2021-09-04, version 7.6*

It’s good app except for the ads that always stay on screen , also accidentally walk up early and it the wrong button and a video will play loudly. There are better Options out there

### 3/5 — Nice App - Needs Refinement

*2021-01-11, version 7.6*

Very nice app. Needs a little refinement on the activation of the alarm sequence and how it stays active instead of having to keep the time on.

### 3/5 — Has potential

*2020-10-19*

Has potential for a free app. Beware there are ads on the clock screen (and additional adds to be watched). I came into this knowing I would have to probably watch ads since the app is free. There is a “feedback” button, and it opens an email for you. Any feedback you send will not be addressed- simply a reply of “get the paid version.” Since the free version wasn’t that great I can’t imagine investing in the paid version.

At this point I’ll just buy a physical sunrise alarm clock.

**Developer response:** Looking at the reviews, it seems most people don't mind the ads. However, a significant proportion of customers do not like the ads at all. For those customers we have an ad-free version of the app. However, I would suggest trying this free version first to see if the app is suitable for you. Here is the ad-free version: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/light-alarm/id346542660

### 2/5 — Remove ad from nighttime clock

*2020-10-09, version 7.5*

This app has almost everything I want except for the stupid bright ad at the bottom of the screen that doesn’t go away at night and keeps me awake rendering the app entirely useless.

### 1/5 — App adds bright light all night long

*2020-10-08*

This app is terrible. It left my screen on all night and drained my battery completely before I was supposed to get up. The bright light from the non-stop add on the bottom was so bright that not only did I have difficulty falling asleep when it was on, but when my phone shut off because it died, it actually woke me up. I know the app recommends plugging the phone in while using it but draining the battery in 5 hours is ridiculous.

### 3/5 — It’s okay. Not great.

*2020-10-01*

You have to keep the screen on all night. Even lower the brightness is not enough. It puts out too much light. In the middle of the night my hand accidentally touched my phone and hit the ad which started playing very loudly. Believe me, that woke me up fully in the middle of the night!! Annoying!! The only thing I really like are the bird sounds to wake up to.

### 1/5 — Ad on lock screen

*2020-07-15, version 7.5*

There is a blinking ad on the night lock screen. I refuse to pay for something I can’t even try to see if it works for me first

### 4/5 — Better than sunrise clocks I’ve purchased in the past.

*2020-02-28, version 7.5*

I don’t use the sounds. I only need light to wake up.

### 2/5 — Not even sure if it works

*2020-02-12*

Annoying that it is light at night and I only wake with it when the alarm sounds. Don’t know if the light does anything

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Hack ad

*2026-05-01, version 8.0*

You have been hacked ad came up.
And no way to dim light when in use

### 1/5 — There’s no way to change the time

*2024-11-14, version 8.0*

No way to change the time of the alarm…

### 1/5 — Hopeful but disappointed

*2024-01-23, version 8.0*

I was really hoping this would be a great find so that I wouldn’t need to buy a sunrise alarm clock - unfortunately the bright ad box at the bottom isn’t conducive to healthy dark sleep and defeats the purpose of the app. Deleting asap.

### 1/5 — Completely unusable

*2024-01-12, version 8.0*

I had high hopes for this app, but I can’t get to sleep with it on because the ads are so glaring. The app itself dims to black for sleep, but bottom banner ads are full brightness with no way to close or dim them. A light alarm doesn’t work if it starts from a point of light.

### 1/5 — Useless free sounds

*2022-03-09, version 7.6*

Free app only has three sound that are barely audibleCrickets chimes& something else

### 1/5 — Spyware?

*2021-10-15*

Is it just me or did this app ask for access to the camera while waking me up?
Clever if so, as it is when you are half asleep and trying to press the screen to turn it off.
It works, but not sure If some users can trust it.

### 1/5 — Not good

*2021-01-15*

Nothing will let me edit the time. Would not recommend

### 1/5 — Useless

*2021-01-08, version 7.6*

Downloaded app . There are no instructions about how to set the alarm. Them tapped feedback button on app - wrote my feedback but then unable to send it. App deleted. Wasted my time.

### 1/5 — Click

*2020-12-15, version 7.6*

Really wish the click was bigger- its so small I can’t read it at night.

### 1/5 — Needs updating

*2020-11-03, version 7.5*

The app used to function just fine. The ads add too much ambient light at night, but I learned to just cover that part of the phone up. However, recently, the ads start playing randomly in the middle of the night! I’m looking for a new option!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Ok

*2023-07-27, version 8.0*

Ok

### 5/5 — Only alarm I now use

*2020-08-28*

It consistently works great for me. The bird sounds are the gentlest yet effective wake up. Just put the phone out of reach so you don’t accidentally hit it during the night and un-set the alarm.

### 5/5 — Effective

*2019-11-06*

I have used this app every night for a while now to help me wake up in the morning. It does exactly what it says it does. I use the bird calls to wake me up and it sounds quite realistic, like birds are actually in my room! Thank you for this app!!

### 5/5 — Ichiban

*2019-01-17*

I’ve tried three of these alarms in this one is far superior to all the others. The quality of sound the simplest sticks of features all make it the best that I have found. Nice job

### 5/5 — Great!

*2018-12-10, version 7.5*

Does wake me up good in the morning, however I should be able to turn my screen off and still have a functioning alarm

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2018-03-08, version 7.5*

I have had a history of troubles waking in the morning in the dark winter months. This helps tremendously!

### 5/5 — Good

*2017-11-28*

A bit quirky but good once you realise the time set is when it’s at its brightest not when it starts getting bright.

### 5/5 — Better than noisy alarm

*2017-11-27*

Great app for an easy wake-up call. The continuous ads can be a bit distracting...until you're asleep. Or, you can just cover them up (that’s what I do).

### 5/5 — Light up alarm

*2017-10-28*

Works perfectly

### 5/5 — Naturally awake

*2017-06-05*

Great app with the combination of gradual light and slowly increasing natural sound (prefer the bird doing our crickets). Once the alarm is set the night stand clock has an adjustable brightness that works for me (even with the ads). Would be perfect if it would sync with my movement tracker to pick the optimal time to start the alarm but maybe I am asking too much from a free app.
