### 4/5 — Great app but needs a visual update

*2023-02-01*

Love the function it wakes you up very naturally but would love to change at least the clock font to modernise it slightly

### 4/5 — Love it - except

*2020-10-17*

Wish you could choose the font size and type. Current font is too ‘fat’ to make out the difference between some numbers through sleepy eyes. Also if I use it on an iPad, I can’t choose to have the entire background get lighter, not just the size of an iPhone background. Otherwise, I love it and use it daily.

### 2/5 — Nice Idea - Too Many Flaws - Unreliable

*2019-08-13*

Love the idea but the flaws short circuit the benefits. There’s no way to turn off the time light while sleeping so I have to put the phone face down so my sleep won’t be disturbed which means the light alarm is useless. But I was using it anyhow for the bird alarm, until this morning. This morning I tapped the screen for snooze (just a corner because the phone is face down to handle the first flaw) and the app never unsnoozed. Turns out the app put up a modal dialog wanting me to rate it and the alarm was off when I needed snooze. Dumb move given I wound up sleeping too late because of that. The combination of these flaws make this app unreliable. And the tragedy is that the flaws are design choices that don’t need to be there. Hope the developer fixes the flaws and good luck! For now I need a workable light alarm clock. I’m going to shell out the bucks to buy a physical dedicated light alarm clock that doesn’t have these flaws today.

### 3/5 — works well but night mode needs a fully black background

*2019-07-18*

works well but night mode needs a fully black background. Would be nice to integrate a weather app upon turning off alarm

### 3/5 — Not worth it

*2019-07-16*

No difference in functionality between the free version and the paid. Setting max brightness for wake up means you need to sleep with it at max brightness. Both brightness and volume of audible alarm do not remember the setting day to day. Both light and sound need to remember where user wants them to start and be able to increase in brightness and volume gradually. Hitting snooze should not eliminate the vibration alert at the actual set time. Should also have a STOP or END button, not a double tap to end as it’s very easy to double tap and end when You only want to snooze. This is a very very basic app for a premium price.

### 2/5 — OK app

*2019-02-18*

Simple and works OK. Sometimes it resets the brightness level on my phone display in general. And it will keep nagging you to rate the app, which is pretty annoying. I’m hearing impaired so I needed something to wake me with light. Light is not nearly as effective as an actual sound alarm, though—I have slept right through this light “alarm” several times. If you are capable of hearing a sound alarm, don’t waste your time on this.

### 4/5 — Light alarm

*2018-10-08, version 7.4*

Great, lovely alarm! Only quibble is the relative silence if one has mute turned on. This is unfortunate but likely hard to avoid.

Otherwise truly, this is an alarm I can live and work with.

### 4/5 — Solid App

*2018-08-21, version 7.4*

Works as designed. I'd prefer a more gradual increase in light. I find it's a little choppy. But nice app. Really like it. Use it everyday as my alarm. No issues.

### 3/5 — Alright but expensive for limited features.

*2018-06-07*

Would be nice if you could turn off the screen and still have the flashlight come on for the alarm.

Darkroom interface would definitely be nice for making changes or setting up when the room is already dark

The fact that it automatically bumps the brightness from 1 to (a blinding) 50% automatically when exiting the clock mode is ridiculous. Something that ruins the experience or at best causes great apprehension to using the app, despite the great benefits.

Love the idea, can definitely be improved.

### 4/5 — 👍👍👍

*2018-01-22*

Really lovley to wake up with. Uses a fair bit of battery tho cos you have to leave the screen on for it to work.

### 3/5 — Issue!!

*2017-07-07*

I usually go to sleep with something playing on a timer and this app prevents that. This makes the app unusable for me. I am very upset. Please change!

### 4/5 — Really like using this

*2017-07-05*

Helps bring you round gradually into the day

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2017-05-01*

Best alarm going .Like the birds and seagulls alarm .Only made a mistake once and left airplay on .Came out of my bedroom speakers at full volume at 0430 hrs ,woke my neighbours up , but as I live on cliff tops got away with it !!

### 5/5 — Wake up easy

*2017-03-15*

The gradual increase in light makes waking up so much easier. Hearing the birds is so much kinder than any traditional alarm sound. Love this app!

### 5/5 — Best app ever!

*2017-01-26, version 7.4*

Waking up with light has changed my life. I started off with a light up alarm a couple of years ago. My puppy chewed the chord. I was going to purchase another at the cost of 95.00. But ran across this app before the purchase was made.
It works perfect. I haven't had on glitch. Its always with me so if I travel I can continue waking with light. 5 STARS to its creator, and thank you. It was worth the $6.99, and them some.

### 5/5 — Brilliant app

*2017-01-04*

Love this app. It's really useful to me and would recommend it very much to have wonderful starts to your day with really nice sounds of nature and gentle sunlight!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — 5 Stars BUT

*2020-04-08*

You can’t turn the sound alarm option off. Defeats the purpose for my needs - also an easy fix on their part but no...

### 1/5 — Could be great

*2019-10-17*

Every night you have to reset this thing. I’d give it 5 stars if you could set it and not have to worry about it

### 1/5 — Done

*2017-11-24, version 7.4*

Used this alarm from time to time. Very happy that this is the last time it will pester me to review it, since I’m about to delete it.

### 1/5 — Poor

*2017-10-24*

Drains battery :-(

### 1/5 — Doesn't work w/ iOS 8.3

*2015-05-29, version 7.0*

I used to love this alarm, but ever since I upgraded my iOS the app just crashes (and I sleep in)

### 1/5 — Don't Buy it if You Need an Alarm

*2013-01-04, version 5.0*

None of the apps in this category were well reviewed but this was the best rated of what was left. It was absolutely useless and even worse, blocked the alarm on the Apple clock that I set for back-up. Don't throw your dollar down the sewer too! The Apple App Store should be ashamed of foisting garbage like this on us. Gotta run now- for some reason I'm late.

### 1/5 — Not so good

*2012-04-04, version 4.3*

Sound quality is rough and the light doesn't get bright enough for me to even notice. Ended up with an alarm that doesn't even always wake me up

### 1/5 — Awful

*2012-01-18, version 4.3*

Worst!!!!!!! Didn't even wake me up!!!

### 1/5 — Lazy and incomplete product build.

*2012-01-10*

The ocean soundtrack loop has a very audible break between reruns, which really interferes with it being a gentle wake up. Also it's in Mono - only one speaker activated. If you follow the directions to get rid of the illumination at night by pushing the button on top, the light doesn't come on in the morning. The audio buildup comes on too loudly and doesn't build very much at all.
All in all, it feels like a lazy programming job, Built more to make money on a concept than to actually create a good app.
The builder clearly ignores input and request for fixes, too, judging by the other ratings. My advice? Don't be a sucker like I was. Look elsewhere.
Glad it was only $.99. It isn't worth that, but it's not much to lose.

### 1/5 — Does not do what it says

*2011-11-07*

I bought this as a light alarm. Most of the reviews will tell you it's got a great set of sounds. As a light however, first all you hear in the morning is a sound alarm which you have to choose; no light comes on. It might do if you are prepared to have light from your phone shining all night! This app is a real con.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Works for Me

*2023-09-25*

I’ve been using this app for 11 years and it has been great for me. I don’t always like to wake up when I have to but this has made it much easier than waking up with adrenaline streaming through my system.

### 5/5 — Works flawlessly

*2023-06-18*

Have been using this app for years. Great way to wake up with gradual increase in light output and birdsong. Helps me get out of bed feeling refreshed.

### 5/5 — Great free sunrise alarm

*2023-04-14*

I have been using this for years. It is a great slow wake-up alarm with sunrise effect (great for dark winter mornings) and dawn-chorus bird sound effect. I use it on iPad but works on iPhone too, on bedside table.

### 5/5 — The birds are authentic

*2019-08-05*

There are times when I think my alarm is going off only to realize it is the birds outside my window. It is both a good thing (as it is a natural wake up call) and an annoying thing (on some days I want to sleep in)!

### 5/5 — Très bonne application

*2019-01-24, version 7.4*

Super application que j’utilise depuis quelques années
Je recommande

### 5/5 — Perfect!

*2018-08-01*

I use a light alarm when I am home. It’s a more gentle wake up, for this heavy sleeper. This is my travel companion! Works reliably. Easy to use interface. I do recommend it, often IRL.

### 5/5 — Yep

*2018-05-10*

Been using this for around 5 years. No need to change.

### 5/5 — Best alarm

*2017-12-11, version 7.4*

I have been using this alarm for years now and actually don’t even need it anymore. I have used it enough that my body just wakes up a little before the actual alarm goes off.
My wife is a sleep specialist and says the research to back up that this sort of alarm is the best for your physiology and sleep cycle.
I have talked about this alarm and some of my middle school students have downloaded it and say they like it.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2017-12-11*

Good stuff.

### 5/5 — LOVE this App!

*2017-06-24*

This has to be the most user friendly and easy to maneuver alarm clock I've ever seen! When you turn on the app, it provides a bright light for traveling thru a dark room. Once it's docked by my bed, I push activate alarm and it provides a bright light to see with but not disturb anyone. Easily with a simple swipe of my finger I can adjust the brightness down to a bare minimum yet still see the time. It stays that dim until 30 minutes prior to awakening when it gradually starts getting brighter to emulate the sun rising. Then 5 minutes before I want to get up I hear a soft sound of birds. If I should happen to not wake up within 5 minutes then the alarm will buzz and vibrate. How cool is that?! With a simple touch anywhere on the screen it turns off the alarm ( if you call birds an alarm). Changing wake up times is super easy. If I want to wake up at a different time than the night before, I go to settings, swipe thru the scroll bar to the time I want , it verifies the time I've chosen, then I push activate alarm. Plus the bonus here is that I can actually see what I'm doing because it's all lit up. Definitely 5 stars for this app!
