This lighting control app for DMX devices leaves nothing to be desired: it is just as suitable for party use as for concert or theater performance. The app is aimed at both beginners, who are taking their first DMX steps, and demanding users. Therefore, the app is very clearly and logically structured, so that even inexperienced users can quickly find their way around. At the same time, Light Captain offers many solutions that also make the work of professionals easier and enable more complex lighting situations. The app is suitable for all types of spotlights: White light spotlights, colorful LED spotlights, compact lighting systems of all kinds, lighting effects, or moving lights. Even the DMX protocols of show lasers or multi-effects can be mapped. To operate the app as a lighting controller, the Eurolite freeDMX interface is required. For beginners and professionals: In the first section (Chases), users who want to use different lighting scenes and chases for parties or concerts will feel most comfortable. Chases can be controlled either by adjusting the speed or by music control. Advanced users will prefer the second section, which also allows individual programming of cues and scenes with individual fade times. A password-protected mode allows operators to recall and adjust lights only, but not change programs or shows. Light Captain is therefore also suitable for installations and clubs where the lights are pre-programmed and need to be operated by different people without sources of error. Programming: A large and constantly growing library of fixtures already offers many models pre-programmed. Creating other fixtures is just as easy. For professional requirements, values can also be restricted or default values assigned and the individual positions of the color and gobo wheels can be defined. "Lamp on/off" commands for discharge lamps are also easy to assign and recall later. Control: Light Captain can inherently control four color segments on each fixture, each with up to 8 basic colors. No matter if KLS system, LED bar with 4 segments, or wash light with four rings, everything can be easily created and adjusted. For color effects, there is a separate effect section with 6 pre-programmed effects, which can also be modified in the expansion stages. For moving lights, there is a 16bit capable control. Another control level is used to adjust gobos, prisms, zoom, focus, etc. Eight Freepatch controls can be freely assigned. Even complex multi-effects or show lasers can be sensibly created here. Bastante fiable para eventos importantes y olvidarse de los cables. Le falta una estrella porque no hay unos tutoriales bien definidos para crear escenas y tampoco hay escenas pre grabadas para sus propias luces. Espero que la aplicación mejore. ### 4/5 — Create Fixture funktioniert nach iPadOS Update auf 17.7.7 nicht mehr *2025-05-16, version 1.3.6* Sehr geehrtes Entwickler Team, ich nutze den LC seit fast einem Jahr und bin bisher sehr zufrieden damit. Allerdings funktioniert seit gestern, nach dem Update auf iPadOS 17.7.7, das Create Fixture nicht mehr und ich werde aufgefordert ein Update der App zu machen. Version der installierten App ist die 1.3.6. ### 1/5 — Geht nicht *2025-05-08, version 1.3.6* Man kann die Library nicht Downloaden nach habe die App ein paarmal neu installiert geht nicht! Und dafür hab ich noch mal 50 Euro bezahlt geht gar nicht ### 2/5 — Sound2light/ Freeze ohne Funktion! *2024-12-14, version 1.3.3* An sich ganz brauchbare App, nur die Sound2Light Funktion via Micro bringt kein brauchbares Ergebnis. Daher bat ich den Support vor gut einem Jahr (!) die Sound2Light Funktion via Lightning zu integrieren. Diese und eine funktionierende Freeze-Funktion wären eine runde Sache. ### 4/5 — Gute App *2024-07-22, version 1.3.1* Hallo, finde die App ziemlich gut auch das ich jetzt ArtNet nutzen kann ist toll. Das einzige was bei mir nicht richtig funktioniert ist das die Musiksteuerung der App die Laufende Musik App zu Stehen bringt. Was auch schön wäre wenn Ableton Link integriert werden könnte. ### 3/5 — Top Konzept mit Schwäche *2024-05-20, version 1.3.1* hab noch nicht viel gemacht aber gleich zu Anfang ist mir ganz negativ aufgefallen dass die Schiebefader auf dem Touch sehr schlecht reagieren. Hatte dass schon in einem Yt Video gesehen als es auf der Messe Frankfurt vorgestellt wurde und während der Vorführung genau das die ganze Zeit aufgetreten ist und sich der Akteur die ganze Zeit versuchte rauszureden dass es nicht funktioniert wenn man es von der Seite bedient. Hmm da schaute sogar mein Hund komisch ;-. Schade, weil eigtl cooles Konzept. ### 4/5 — Hat Potential *2024-04-15, version 1.3.0* Ich finde die App soweit echt gelungen man hat viele Funktionen und vorprogrammierte Features. Dennoch muss ich sagen das ich es sehr schade finde das ich keine Geräte von anderen Herstellern Patchen kann. Meiner Meinung nach hat die App das Potential in der höheren Liga mit zu spielen wenn man von anderen Herstellern Geräte patchen kann. ### 3/5 — (K)eine Backupmöglichkeit der Setups derzeitig! *2024-02-28, version 1.2.1* UPDATE: Also…. Der Support vom Entwickler ist absolut SPITZE! Besser geht es nicht und ein Workaround des Problems wurde (Siehe Reaktion unten!) auch gefunden. Der Fehler liegt nicht beim Entwickler, sondern beim Umstand, dass Apple gerne im Betriebssystem Neues einbaut, wo Appanbieter dann erstmal nachentwickeln müssen, dass was vor einem iOs Update ging auch wieder geht. Wie gesagt: Die App ist gut, aber der Support muss wirklich gesondert MASSIV gelobt werden: Man kümmert sich, wovon andere sich eine Scheibe abschneiden können! Liebe Entwickler, ich bin im Kontakt mit euch und habe den Fehler beschrieben. Bereits andere User haben letztes Jahr moniert: Du kannst Setups speichern und sogar exportieren. Nur funktioniert der Import auf iPad Air Gen.5 gar nicht! Ohne Backup aufwendige Steuerungen zu programmieren ist nicht sicher: Ein iPad ist vor Ort aufzutreiben, das Programm schnell installiert und bei selber ID auch die Freischaltung für die Funktionen vorgenommen - Aber die komplette Show ist mit Nichten schnell mal nachprogrammiert: Der Import muss funktionieren, sonst ist das Risiko groß am Ende ohne Licht dazustehen! Mein Kontakt Zweifel ein wenig an mir und schlug erst vor, dass ich „Öffnen mit“ wählen soll: Leute… wir sprechen vom IPad - Da geht das so nicht! Macht es so, wie es geht (es geht nur so auf einem iPad), indem man parallel „Dateien“ öffnet und den LightC - Dann erscheint brav: „Daten gefunden . Importieren?“ - Ein Klick auch „Ja“ generiert dann eine absolute Frechheit von Fehlermeldung: „Daten konnten nicht importiert werden“. Ja, danke: So genau wollte ich gar nicht wissen! UND WARUM NICHT?! Kein Fehlercode - Nichts. Außerdem ein sehr, sehr … SEHR wichtiger Wunsch: Ein IMPORT BUTTON! Leute… eine Sicherheitskopie abspeichern reicht nicht, wenn man keinerlei Chance hat diese auf seinem Arbeitsgerät wieder einzuspielen. Das sollte aber wirklich sehr hohe Priorität haben, denn sicherlich arbeiten viele mit iPad Air m1 oder „besser“ und dem LightCaptain und wer seinen Job ernst nimmt, der hat immer ein Ersatzgerät am Start und muss die Daten da auch reinbekommen. Ansonsten ist die Eingewöhnung schnell gelungen. Dass die Dimmer bei „ZERO“ auch auf Null gehen ist logisch, aber gewöhnungsbedürftig. Ansonsten ganz gut gelungen die App. Das FreeDMX Interface könnte das 5GHz zusätzlich eröffnen, denn auf 2,4 ist es inzwischen überall sehr eng und ich habe schon einmal Probleme gehabt zu Konfekten (vor allem, wenn die Band dann noch ihre InEars budgetmäßig auch in dem Band betreibt…) Aber ihr macht ja die SW, nicht die HW - Insofern: Bitte kümmert euch um einen reibungslosen Export und Import der Setups (in denen dann hoffentlich auch die Fixtures und alles, was man vorher zusammenfummeln musste als KOMPLETTPAKET drin ist?) Danke… ### 5/5 — Tolle App mit Potential *2023-12-23, version 1.1.5* Ich bin totaler DMX Einsteiger. Habe bislang im Master-Slave Modus meine Spots im Sound to Light Modus betrieben. Jetzt war es Zeit auf 100% DMX umzusteigen. Mann möchte ja auch mal selbst Kontrolle über das Licht übernehmen können. Die App war problemlos zu installieren. Leider verlor die App regelmäßig die Verbindung zum Controller. Nach einem Neustart des iPads war auch das Problem Geschichte. Also auch Anfänger kommen hier schnell zurecht. Eine super Einstiegshilfe sind die bei Steinicke hinterlegten Einführungsvideos mit Schritt für Schritt Anweisungen. Was mir noch fehlt sind Anzeigen der programmierten Chases. Entweder als farbiger Punkt (RGB) neben dem aktiven Fixture oder als Liste im Programmiermodus.
