### 2/5 — Pay to win

*2025-08-19*

Everything behind a paywall

**Developer response:** Hi xX_Rhys_Poggington_Xx, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. While Light Meter Ultra does offer PRO plans to support ongoing development and maintenance, we also provide a completely free version of the app that includes key features at no cost and with no registration required. The PRO options are there for users who want additional tools and enhanced functionality, but the free version remains fully usable for essential light-metering tasks. We hope this helps clarify our approach. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out via the support link in-app or on our App Store product page. Best wishes, The Ultrafine Helpdesk Team.

### 4/5 — What/How??

*2025-08-02*

This is a great app, but could use more documentation (i.e. instructions).

### 1/5 — No me funciona

Hoy me ha tocado pagar porque no me dio tiempo de cancelar la prueba. Es un timo

### 1/5 — Not good

*2025-05-13*

Not accurate under exposes every reading, maybe if I pay it works better!

**Developer response:** Hi rnone rhino I w saw hmr jf,

Thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear your experience didn’t meet expectations.

Just to clarify: the accuracy of the meter is the same in both the free and PRO versions – upgrading only unlocks additional features, not improved core measurement quality. Light Meter uses the same metering algorithms leveraged by Apple in their built‑in camera system, combined with device sensor data, so the readings should be consistent with the capabilities of your iPhone hardware.

That said, results can vary depending on the quality of film, calibration of the camera shutter mechanism, and shooting conditions. For best results, we recommend keeping the lens clean, metering from a consistent position, and adjusting for any known offsets specific to your camera hardware.

We appreciate your feedback as it helps us refine the app experience for everyone.

Best regards,
The Ultrafine Helpdesk Team

### 2/5 — Pretty basic

*2025-04-25*

Can’t do what I wanted it to do I.e. provide a strobe reading.

**Developer response:** Hi GreyStudio,

Thank you for your feedback. We understand how useful strobe readings can be and would love to support that feature.

Unfortunately, strobe (flash) frequency readings require dedicated high‑speed light sensors, which aren’t available on standard smartphone hardware. The app relies on the sensors built into your device, so it’s limited to continuous light measurements.

We appreciate your input – it helps us understand what features users are looking for, and we’ll continue to explore ways to expand the app’s capabilities as hardware evolves.

Best regards,
The Ultrafine Helpdesk Team

### 3/5 — 7days trial application

7days free trial application

### 2/5 — Looking for Lumen measurements

*2024-12-18*

Haven’t seen any manual of some sort for this and some of the values I heard from a review wasn’t even in here.
Then I only have seven days to evaluate before they charge me for the subscription!?

**Developer response:** Hi 65rosessamurai,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on Light Meter Ultra.

We appreciate your interest in using the app for light measurement. Light Meter Ultra is specifically designed for photographers, so it focuses on measuring exposure values (EV) rather than Lumens, which are typically used in other fields. If you’re looking for Lumen measurements, another app may better suit your needs.

Regarding the trial period, we understand how important it is to explore the app fully before committing. Our seven-day trial is designed to give users time to test its features, but we’re always open to feedback on how we can improve this experience.

If you have further questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out to our support team by tapping the support button within the app or from our App Store product page. We’re here to help!

Best wishes,
The Ultrafine Helpdesk Team

### 1/5 — Tried to cancel and charged me anyway.

*2024-12-03*

Not worth a subscription

**Developer response:** Hi kcr62,

Thank you so much for your feedback regarding Light Meter Ultra and so sorry to hear you experienced an unexpected charge.

Please feel free to reach out using the support link on our App Store product page or by tapping the support link in the app so that we can help you request a refund.

In regards to the timing of charges: As Apple handle all transactions on our behalf, they also set the timing of when subscription fees are debited from customer accounts. Fees are debited according to the terms displayed on the system payment confirmation sheet that pops up when you agree to start a free trial and states that trials must be cancelled at least 24hrs before a trial ends to avoid a charge.

You can review Apple's payment terms here https://support.apple.com/en-us/118428 .

We hope this gives you some useful context around how fees are processed on the App Store.

Best wishes,
The Ultrafine Helpdesk Team.

### 3/5 — Really good while you have Internet.

*2024-12-01*

Been using this app with my old SLR and it's been really good. Have an premium subscription but ran into issues last night when shooting in an underground venue where the signal was bad. I kept getting locked out of the premium features like the larger aperture options. Was really frustrating.

**Developer response:** Update 6th Dec 2024:
Hi Sticks,

Thanks for your patience while we investigated this matter.

One again please accept our apologies for the frustration this issue caused.

We've now released on update to the app, v2.4.7, that should hopefully address the issue documented in your review. Please do let us know how you get on.

Huge thanks for bringing the issue to our attention and please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any further feedback or issues.

Best wishes,

“In-app purchases” - Cannot use the app without paying for a subscription. The entire app is a paid app masquerading as a free one with bonus paid features. The entire app is a bonus paid feature.

### 1/5 — Absurdly high subscription cost

*2024-08-30*

These light meter apps are basically accessing the abilities of your built-in camera and feeding the info to you. Apple would probably add this for free if there was enough demand, but most people using an iPhone have no need for an old film camera. In earlier days a clever programmer who was also a traditional photographer would build this app on their hobby time and give it away. Today, we’re conditioned to eternally subscribe to everything, owning nothing and being forever in debt. Yeah, that’s a screed that’s probably overblown for this innocuous app, and yet the pricing on this app is such an excellent example of how genuinely insane we’ve become. Happy shooting.

**Developer response:** Hi Vermiculite,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Light Meter Ultra. We appreciate your feedback and understand your concerns regarding the subscription cost.

Our aim with Light Meter Ultra is to provide a reliable and precise tool for photography enthusiasts and professionals alike. While it’s true that our app leverages the capabilities of your iPhone’s camera, it also includes specialized features that require ongoing development, regular updates, and compatibility with the latest iOS versions. These efforts ensure that the app remains accurate, functional and performant across a range of devices and configurations.

The subscription model allows us to continually improve and maintain the app, covering not just development costs but also customer support, marketing, and other operational expenses. We understand that subscription models aren’t for everyone, which is why we offer a free tier that includes many of the core features of the app, with the option to upgrade for those who need additional professional tools.

We also offer a free trial for our PRO plan so that you can explore all the features before making a commitment. Our pricing options are designed to be flexible, with discounts for longer-term plans, and you can cancel at any time.

We hope this helps clarify our approach, and we’re always here to listen to further feedback. Please feel free to reach out through the support link in the app or via our App Store product page.

Best regards,
The Ultrafine Helpdesk Team

### 2/5 — Doesn’t work for very low light

*2024-08-17*

The app might be good to cover a standard range of light conditions but the as the slogan is get the perfect exposure every time we’ll this is not true. I purchased one month so inscription to test it it because I was going by attempts with 3min exposure..well it failed. Additional Al hardware is actually required to get the perfect exposure

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Subscription Trap, Avoid.

*2026-07-19*

There is only a 7 day trial period then you have to pay. There is no free tier.

**Developer response:** We’re sorry the free option wasn’t clear. The app does include a free tier, and you do not need to start a trial or subscription to use it.

You can access the free version simply by closing the payment offer screen. The 7-day trial is an optional way to try the paid features before subscribing.

We appreciate the feedback and will continue working to make the free option more obvious.

### 1/5 — Accurate but annoying

*2026-07-13*

There are far better apps for the price.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback, and we’re glad to hear you found the measurements accurate. We understand that pricing is an important part of choosing an app.

Our shorter-term plan is designed for users who only need the app for a particular job or project, while longer-term users can choose an annual plan at a significant discount. We appreciate you giving the app a try.

### 1/5 — Too expensive

*2026-05-31*

I’m more than happy to pay for software to support developers and maintainenance, but £32 per month??? For a light meter app come on . Unbelievably ridiculous. I pay that for my actual iPhone which is an actual object. If it was £10 one off I’d probably go for it. Otherwise seems good

**Developer response:** Thanks for the thoughtful feedback. We understand that weekly pricing is not the right fit for everyone.

The weekly plan is intended for short-term users who only need the app for a specific job, shoot, or project. For longer-term users, we offer an annual plan with a significant discount compared with paying weekly.

We’re glad to hear the app otherwise seems good, and we appreciate the feedback on pricing. We’ll continue reviewing how we present our options so users can choose the plan that best fits their needs.

### 1/5 — No free option available… just 7 day trial by agreeing subscription

*2026-05-28*

Very poor… they pretend there’s a free option… but only offer a plan with 7 days free for a £7.99 monthly subscription. Con.

**Developer response:** We’re sorry the free option was not clear. The app does include a free plan, which can be accessed by closing the payment offer screen without starting a trial or subscription.

The subscription shown on that screen is optional. Any free trial, price, renewal period, and billing terms are displayed by Apple during the App Store confirmation flow before purchase.

We understand that the subscription may not be the right fit for everyone, and we appreciate the feedback. We’ll continue working to make the free option clearer.

### 1/5 — Come on con

*2026-05-22*

Says it’s free - turns out only for a week. Then you pay $8 a week!!!!!!!! Jeez is that expensive!!!!! And you can’t even try it because they sign you up to pay before you can even start. I just deleted it - there better apps that are free. But the worst part is the come on, with the claim it is free.

**Developer response:** We’re sorry the pricing felt frustrating. The app is free to download and does include a free plan, which can be accessed by simply closing the payment offer screen.

Any optional subscription, free trial, price, and renewal terms are shown by Apple during the App Store subscription confirmation flow before purchase. We understand that weekly pricing is not the right fit for everyone, and you can cancel anytime through your Apple ID subscription settings.

We appreciate the feedback and will continue working to make the free option and subscription choices as clear as possible.

### 1/5 — TERRIBLE. DON'T BUY.

*2026-01-25*

The app is actually fantastic. But on principle we cannot support these subscription models. I'd buy this even for $30 but not if it's a subscription. This is an abhorrent model and shouldn't be rewarded. Change the pricing please.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the kind words about the app itself – we really appreciate that. We understand the subscription model isn't for everyone, and it's a fair point of view. For us, subscriptions allow us to fund ongoing development, device updates, operating system updates, and support as a small independent team. We do offer a free tier with core functionality if that's a better fit. We genuinely appreciate the feedback and hope you'll stick around.

### 1/5 — Ridiculous hi price for no features

*2025-11-15, version 2.4.11*

Title says it all…

### 1/5 — Failed at critical time

*2025-10-13*

I went on a hike yesterday with the intention of taking photos. App loaded but camera didn’t work, had to guess all my exposures through the day.

If the app needs to use the internet for some reason before starting then that’s terrible design. If by some chance you end up somewhere with no signal like me then you’re SOL.

**Developer response:** Hi Jorshh, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re really sorry to hear that Light Meter Ultra didn’t function as expected during your hike – we understand how frustrating it is when a tool you rely on fails at a critical moment. The app is designed to operate fully offline once installed, so the behaviour you described is not what we intend. Your feedback is extremely valuable, and we’ll be reviewing this scenario carefully to ensure the app remains reliable even in areas with no signal. Please feel free to reach out using the in-app support link or via our App Store page so we can gather a few more details and investigate further. Best wishes, The Ultrafine Helpdesk Team.

### 1/5 — It was going to be a good review, but…

*2025-09-05*

But then the subscription screen appeared. This is a note to all developers out there: People are tired of subscriptions. Enough is enough. Every subscription is a new registration, a new login to add up to the hundreds of registrations and logins we already have. On top of that, as soon as your company goes bust, or gets sold, all of our private information becomes an asset to trade with. Before you known it, your name and e-mail has been sold for profit and you begin to receive hundreds of e-mails and calls from companies you never heard of before. That’s the reality of Sass. Not withstanding the fact that the subscription model is a scam to make users pay 300% more for software while receiving little or no support at all. Of course, you will argue, “that’s illegal, we don’t do that,” but I call shenanigans because you, the developer, knows that the trade of private information is nearly impossible to prove in court, and it highly depends on local laws to prevent it, which do exist in Europe, but do not exist in America or Asia.

**Developer response:** Hi G8086, Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We understand that many users feel fatigued by the growing number of subscriptions in the app ecosystem, and we genuinely appreciate you taking the time to explain your concerns in detail. Light Meter Ultra offers PRO plans to support ongoing development and maintenance, but we also provide a completely free version of the app that includes core functionality with no registration or login required. We never sell, trade, or share personal information – this is strictly governed by our privacy policy and by data-protection laws such as GDPR, which we follow closely. We also don’t require users to create an account to use the app, so your name and email are not collected as part of using Light Meter Ultra. We hope this provides clarity on how we handle both subscriptions and user privacy. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out via the support link in-app or on our App Store product page. Best wishes, The Ultrafine Helpdesk Team.

### 1/5 — Không hữu dụng

*2025-08-27*

This app is simple for me to understand and I love that I can see both the average metering and the spot metering at the same time.
