### 4/5 — “Failing” if people call you

*2020-10-12, version 1.3.9*

Love this app! Dogs are super cute and this really helps me be more productive. However, you “fail” the session if someone calls you, even though YOU never left the app. Hoping this gets fixed with the next update!

### 4/5 — Helps focus a lot

*2019-11-18, version 1.3.9*

I have ADHD, and resisting the urge to use my phone is extremely hard for me. This has helped a ton with focus and is actually helping me learn more discipline by making me ask myself “can this REALLY not wait 25 minutes? Is this really worth interrupting what I’m doing?”

Beyond focus at work, it’s actually even helping me work on mindfulness/being present by using it while I walk places, watching TV, listen to my partner talk about their day, eat dinner, etc.

One glitch - hitting to ignore a phone call makes you lose progress which stinks. I’ll have to experiment with it because I can’t just leave my phone vibrating on my desk in our open office.

Overall, really helpful!

### 4/5 — Good concept!

*2019-10-26, version 1.3.9*

This is the only game I know of that is like it. A game that motivates someone to stay OFF their phones! Most apps want your undecided attention. So, for that I give this app 5 stars! I removed one star, however, because all you are doing is collecting dogs and mating them. It would be great if there were more to do with these dogs. Maybe interact with your friends dogs or have something for them to do. I love the idea though, so let’s see if anything happens next. Great job!

### 3/5 — Some glaring issues

*2019-06-25, version 1.3.6*

Issue no.1 is that an account is needed before using the app.

Issue no.2 is that every time I scroll up to 4 hours of gen time, the amount of joules rewarded decreases by a small amount. Definitely a bug, if not a design red flag.

Issue no.3 is that it only goes up to 4 hours of gen time. I need at least 9 hours, otherwise getting up at night to check my phone is still rewarded.

That said, an auto-reward for not using my phone from a specified bedtime until wake up time would be nice.

### 4/5 — Fun and it works

*2019-06-24, version 1.3.6*

This is a really cute app that actually works! It’s been remarkably effective at keeping me off my phone for measured time periods. My one small complaint is that there is no option to switch from metric to imperial measurements... it’s a very American problem I guess, but kilograms and meters don’t mean anything to me! It takes away a bit from getting immersed in the game.

### 3/5 — Breed Guide not updating..

*2019-06-24, version 1.3.6*

This app is great. However, as I phase up dogs, they do not always update in the breed guide. Specifically, I have noticed the Knight Vigilant and Steadfast show the puppy version, but not the adult form even though I have unlocked it.

### 4/5 — keeps me off my phone

*2019-05-23, version 1.3.4*

love this app, has absolutely lowered my screentime and encourages me to get stuff done, my only problem is you cant organize the eggs/pups/adults at all!
can you make the eggs/ pups/ adults able to be organized, maybe a click and drag type of deal?

### 4/5 — Great but gems changed

*2019-04-22, version 1.3.2*

This app is a good idea, and so far I’ve found it very effective at helping me to focus on a task for longer than normal. However when I used it today it seemed as thought he number of gems you can earn has been lowered? Previously you got 70 gems for 5 minutes, but now the app says that you need to do 20 minutes for 70 gems. I don’t know if this is a glitch or if it has been changed but if it has I think it should be changed back so that it is easier to get the dogs, because that makes it more worth it and gives you more motivation to use the timer. But overall, I really like it.

### 4/5 — Wonderful

*2019-04-16, version 1.3.2*

I really like the app but I have stumbled across a slight issue. It doesn’t always reward the correct amount of joules after the timer completes. For example, I’ll set a timer for 4 hours and it is supposed to give 6050 joules but instead when I open the app back up when the timer is done I only receive 1050 joules. It’s not too big of a deal considering the app overall is great. It encourages me to stay off my phone and reduce my screen time which is fantastic :)

### 4/5 — Just one problem

*2019-04-15, version 1.3.2*

This app is great. It’s helped me more than any other Pomodoro timer to actually cut down my screen time. My issue however, is that the app has recently been restarting itself, completely abandoning the gen session I was in the middle of and acting as if it never happened when reopened. I’ve lost a few hours worth of points at this point, and it’s quite frustrating. The other issue of it randomly alerting me when no other apps have been touched seems fixed by the most recent update (I was previously turning off my phone and generally getting away with it). But this random restarting is a shame. Any idea how this could be avoided?

### 2/5 — Bug

*2019-04-10, version 1.3.1*

Won’t get any joules from any time over 20 mins says session failed

### 4/5 — Great app but small bugs

*2019-04-03, version 1.3.1*

Love this app and is really helping with procrastination!
However the game still sometimes crashes while my phone is locked and some breeds such as the Knightlet do not actually show up on the breed guide, would be great if you can fix this.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Wouldn’t let me make an account

*2024-05-26, version 1.3.9*

I love the idea as something motivating for people with ADHD but sadly it wouldn’t let me make an account. It kept saying response status code unacceptable: 405.

### 1/5 — Love this app but doesn’t seem to work anyone

*2021-07-04, version 1.3.9*

I loved the rewards for this app, but as of today, I can no longer make it work. None of the buttons in the app work.

### 1/5 — battery

*2020-06-08, version 1.3.9*

whenever i get a battery notification to put my phone on low power mode, the session always fails even through i’m still on the app and i didn’t even touch my phone. it doesn’t really help with not using your phone because you can just make the session fail and using the apps which are available for your use.

### 1/5 — Progress lost!

*2019-11-09, version 1.3.9*

After waiting for 4 hours, my progress was lost because I lost connection to the Internet. This is bad.

### 1/5 — They Won’t Fix a Known Bug!

*2019-10-26, version 1.3.9*

I wanted so badly to give this app 5 stars. The idea is genius, the implementation is cute, and I love the app. However, on my iPhone 6, the Generate sessions fail for often than not, and when I reported the bug, I was told, and I now quote the email...

“Sorry to hear about this issue. It’s a bug that seems to happen on iPhone 6’s. Unfortunately, our team has started working on a new app and are no longer supporting Lightdogs, so the bug is unlikely to be fixed. One way to avoid the frustration though is to turn on notifications if you haven’t already. When the app mistakenly thinks you’ve left (rather than just locked it), it should send you a notification warning you that your session will fail. Then you can unlock and relock before the session fails. Sorry for the frustration. I hope Lightdogs is useful for you regardless!”

So if I got this right: they’ll sell the app, but not fix a known bug. Nice.

### 1/5 — doesn't work

*2019-04-01, version 1.3.1*

No longer works after the update :(

### 2/5 — Disappointed... although I loved it at first

*2020-03-30, version 1.3.9*

I’ve had this app about a week or so now and I’ve been really loving it, I’ve been using it to as a little cute motivation to help me do my assignments and it’s been working well! However, I had collected about 7 dogs and then suddenly I went on the app yesterday and my dogs were no longer there and I was forced to make a new account?? It was both disappointing and frustrating and although I’ve decided to keep the app for now in the hopes that it was a one-off, I will definitely delete it if it happens again as it’s a little pointless. Please make sure this doesn’t happen again! Thank you!

### 2/5 — Great, when it actually works

*2019-07-01, version 1.3.7*

Will randomly say I “failed” sessions with no explanation without me doing anything wrong or switching to another app. Sometimes it won’t let me access my account or log in.

### 2/5 — Good idea, good app, but...

*2019-06-28, version 1.3.6*

I was using this app and I was doing the 4 hour session. I turned off my iPhone and walk away for 4 hours when I come back and turn on the app it says session failed but I did not leave the app! I was mad because I had wasted 4 hours only for that to happen. Please fix that glitch!

### 2/5 — Not what I thought it would be

*2019-06-15, version 1.3.5*

It’s cute, but that’s about it. You have to keep your phone screen on for it to work. You can’t lock your phone, so of course it drains your battery like crazy. My phone auto locks after about 5 minutes and I’m not about to change that setting, and I’m not willing to touch my phone to keep the screen lit up every 5 minutes. If the app would work while my phone was locked I would give a much better review.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — dogs. nice.

*2020-01-18, version 1.3.9*

This app is fully the only way I’m not failing all my subjects, highkey want some more breeds though

### 5/5 — Good app

*2019-12-04, version 1.3.9*

I love this app - it helps me stay off my phone while studying. However I wish I could breed dogs that are already mixed!

### 5/5 — Help

*2019-11-15, version 1.3.9*

I love the app it’s great for my revision and the dogs are so cute 🥰 however today I tried to log in with the right details but I can’t as apparently my login is invalid

### 5/5 — great app

*2019-08-04, version 1.3.7*

this app is super helpful for keeping me off my phone and in the moment!

### 5/5 — Love it, but...!

*2019-06-30, version 1.3.6*

Hi! I love this app so so much, it’s really helped me reduce screen time and spend more time doing productive things.

One thing though, I feel like there should be something you can do with the dogs you’ve collected, besides breed. I understand it’s supposed to be a simple app to keep you off your phone but it feels less earning whenever you get a dog. So what, now I evolve and breed it? I just wish there was something more, still a great app though totally recommend, thanks for reading!

### 5/5 — So much fun!

*2019-06-18, version 1.3.6*

Great app for making me stay off my phone more, it’s so fun seeing what dogs you can create. Best app I’ve had for keeping me off my phone and focused especially in work hours. Really motivating. Can not wait to see more breeds available and maybe some interactive parts.

### 5/5 — Such a great tool for a electronic detox!

*2019-05-19, version 1.3.4*

Love this app as it forces me to take a break from electronics and get back to what’s important. Recommend it to all my friends, family and clients :)

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2019-04-16, version 1.3.2*

Quality app - just waiting for more breeds to be added! Also, it would be awesome to possibly do the same thing with cats and/or other animals. Moreover, maybe adding a way to compete with friends and seeing what breeds they have will encourage you to spend even less time on your phone. Nevertheless, the app has already done wonders for reducing my screen-time! Ta

### 5/5 — Issue with Joule Per Minute

*2019-04-10, version 1.3.1*

Congrats on the app guys. Heard about you on Twinnovation! Purchased the 1.99 dog to support y’all! Looking forward to seeing how you guys continue with development.
Simple idea and charming execution. Wasn’t on my phone for 8 hours today!

### 5/5 — Cute dogs

*2019-04-03, version 1.3.1*

I love this app so much and I can’t wait for new breeds! It’s really been helping me use my phone less which will be great for alleviating my eye strain.

However, sometimes I come back to my phone and it says the session was cancelled and I lost all my joules even though I haven't touched it. Fortunately this doesn’t happen often, but it is frustrating to come back and see sometimes 1,000+ lost.

Still 5* though, every app has its issues (especially at the start) and you seem to be keeping on top of it with bug patches.
