## What is Lighten?

Your photo library is mostly the same photo taken five times.

Lighten looks through it on the iPhone itself and finds what is actually worth deleting: the shots you took twice, the ones that came out blurred, the screenshots nobody ever goes back to, and the videos where the gigabytes really are. Then it hands them to you one at a time.

HOW IT WORKS

Give it access to your photos and it walks the library on the device. Ten thousand photos take under a minute, and the second scan only looks at what is new. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no account to create.

THE SAME MOMENT, TWICE

Bursts and retakes are what fill a library, and they are seconds apart. Lighten compares photos taken close together, groups the near-identical ones, and picks the keeper for you. A favourite or an edited photo is never the one it suggests deleting, because someone spent time on those.

OUT OF FOCUS

A blurred photo is measured, not guessed at: sharpness is read off the pixels in both directions. Anything that cannot be measured is left alone rather than offered up.

ONE SWIPE EACH

Go through everything the scan found, one photo at a time. Swipe left to delete, right to keep, and undo the decision you regret. Or open a category, select a whole grid, and clear it in one go.

HONEST ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Deleted photos go to Recently Deleted in the Photos app and stay there for about 30 days. The space comes back when you empty that album, not before. Lighten says so on the main screen instead of claiming credit it has not earned yet.

Sizes are estimates, and the app says About rather than pretending otherwise. iOS does not tell apps exactly how much storage a photo occupies.

A RECORD OF WHAT YOU CLEARED

The work is invisible by design, because the library looks the same afterwards. History keeps the running total, the number of photos, and a six-month chart.

FREE AND PRO

Scanning your whole library and reviewing everything it finds are free and unlimited, and will stay that way. What is metered is the deleting: 200 photos a month on the free plan, which is enough to clear a real backlog.

Pro removes that limit. It has one price, not a list: a yearly plan, or a single payment if you would rather never think about it again.

## Version history (last 2 releases)

### 1.1 — 2026-08-19

Photos now look like photos.

Everything you see is loaded at full quality, including the originals kept in iCloud rather than on the device. Videos play. Any photo, screenshot or video can be opened full screen before you decide anything about it.

Scanning waits to be asked. Opening the app no longer sets it reading your whole library; there is a button for that now. And Scan Again really does look again, rather than repeating the answer it gave last time.

Two things it can now do in one step: delete everything a scan found, and stop a one-by-one review early and act on the photos already marked.

Fixed: a photo could stay on screen after you moved to the next one, and some libraries were scanned without every photo being examined.
