### 3/5 — End of life?

*2024-06-09*

This is a great little app and I have been using it for a couple of years. Unfortunately, the Help feature no longer works, it goes to a website that doesn’t exist anymore. It looks like the last update was at least a year ago, so I’m guessing this is nearing the end of life. I will have to start looking for something else. :(

### 4/5 — Pretty good app

*2024-03-14, version 2.6*

Gotta keep this in your tool bag , I’m an amateur photographer and it can sure help. Thank you for the years of info.

### 5/5 — Excellent app !

*2022-05-31, version 2.5.6*

Well done by the designers, extremely useful.

### 5/5 — Perfect for my real estate photos!

*2022-05-28, version 2.5.6*

I can tell when the best time will be for the perfect exterior shots of my listings. Simple to use and an invaluable tool in my marketing arsenal.

### 5/5 — LightTrac

*2022-05-16, version 2.5.6*

Wonderful tool to show clients sun path for each location.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app for planning for where the natural lighting will be.

*2022-04-26*

This is a fantastic app for knowing where the natural lighting will be. Super easy to understand and to use. Obviously extremely useful for photography lighting choices, but has many other uses as well. At any day / time of the year you can figure out where the sun will be shining, inside and out. This is great for interior design, including wall, drapery and furniture color choices, to placement of various furniture and activities within a room. Planning a wedding for next June, make sure the Bride and Groom are neither squinting, nor in the shade. This app showed us just how good our guesses were for where we placed shade trees on the south side of our house after moving in. Next time, we won’t have to guess - we can figure out exactly where will be best. Great for pool and sun-dependent landscaping choices. Great for architects to get a quick idea of how they might site their building, well before getting into too much building detail or spending bucks doing full annual computer sun simulations. Great for HVAC Contractors and Engineers (me) for doing initial airflow balance planning. Great for astronomy buffs and general science nerds!! Helps me know when I can expect to let my cabin-fevered cats out on the back deck in early spring. Love it! Will support this app forever!! Thanks!!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to provide detailed feedback. We appreciate it very much.

### 5/5 — Best Visualizer By Far!

*2021-10-29*

The way in which the solid and moving lines show on the map makes it so easy for everyone to visualize exactly where the sun will be at any given time.

Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2021-07-24, version 2.5.4*

As a photographer, I have been using this app for many years. It is very easy to use and incredibly accurate for anticipating the phase and location of the rising moon

### 5/5 — Indispensable

*2021-07-18, version 2.5.4*

This app is a must when shooting architecture. Been using it for years to plan my shoots. Clean, straight-forward interface makes it easy. Two thumbs up!

### 5/5 — Great app!!

*2021-06-07, version 2.5.4*

I’ve had this app for years and I’m constantly amazed at how often I use it. In addition to many photography uses, I just did some “what if” experiments to see where the sun would shine in if we installed some new windows in the house. We’ve used it to figure out sun exposure at camping sites and so much more. Great app!

### 3/5 — Good on iPad, does not work on iPhone

*2021-04-09, version 2.5.4*

This works great on my iPad but does not work on my iPhone. I can’t get to go to or search for a specific location. It will only work with current location

### 4/5 — A Useful App For Photographers

*2021-03-25, version 2.5.4*

Something you miss if not to hand.

### 4/5 — Great app - I use it regularly

*2021-01-30*

Update - I still really like this app and its simplicity. I have all the other more expensive and complex apps, but I still visit this one first. My previous comments still apply, it would be nice to see a few changes:

Still worth it. But would benefit from having buttons, such as locations, more intuitive. Interface still a little clunky and doesn’t seem to take full advantage of later iOS versions. I would be willing to buy it again, I’ve had this app since my first iPad (1).

### 5/5 — Architecture Design

*2021-01-03*

We use this app for a quick and accurate view to determine new home design aspects. Have used it for years and has proven to be the best for orientation purposes. I felt guilty to not have provided this review prior but better late than never! Thanks to the developers.

### 5/5 — Really useful

*2020-12-31, version 2.5.3*

Obviously useful for planning shoots but I’ve also used it to trackdown locations i’ve already photographed in the past.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Cannot give a honest review

*2024-11-23, version 2.6*

Every time time I open the app it shows my location as Stonehenge. I’m in the US. When I try to change it to my location, the app locks up and I have to reboot my phone. Need a refund.

### 1/5 — Zoom is very frustrating

*2022-08-06, version 2.5.6*

This app was fine at the beginning
Now when I zoom out on the frame, at some point, the freaking app decides for me that it’s now time to zoom in!!!!!!

Makes the appp extremely inefficient in use of my time

### 1/5 — Too expensive, poor quality

*2022-03-29, version 2.5.6*

Spent $9 for this app to give me close to no help at all

### 1/5 — Pretty but same as free apps. Confusing.

*2022-01-15, version 2.5.6*

This app doesn’t seem to do what the screenshots suggest. I can move the time slider and get an angle of the sun in visual and number, and an elevation number, but that’s it (I can get this in other free apps too). I don’t see any way, not by intuitive UI or by (missing) instructions, how the app can visualize the sun angle on the horizon, as suggested in the screenshot with the tree and shadow. I also looked at the “bundle” which shows 3 apps in the icon for $12.99 if I remember well, but the description mentions only 2 apps. So… Apparently I purchased this single app and the moon calendar but so far I have not seen any charge for it in the app store. When I do, I will request a refund. Confusing overall.

### 1/5 — Map zooms in itself

*2021-07-31, version 2.5.4*

I haven’t used this app for years, and now that I’m trying to use it again; while exploring the map with my fingers (pinching in and out to zoom) the app will just randomly zoom in at its own will. This becomes extremely irritating while trying to explore an area. Apart from that the app is great and it has served me well. Please fix this bug. It makes it impossible to explore. And keep up the good things about the app. Thanks

### 1/5 — Did the devs give up?

*2020-09-15, version 2.5.3*

This app would be great if it was useable. I’m not sure if the devs gave up and stopped updated or what but I constantly get a timezone incomparable error when inputting an address- even after deleting and reinstalling. The help page is a 404 error which also seems to suggest this is a forgotten project. Please update! Currently worth zero dollars so avoid until fixed.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2020-09-03, version 2.5.3*

The App insists it cannot determine the time zone for the location I enter. It instructs me to enter it manually. How does one enter it manually?

### 1/5 — No instructions or help

*2020-02-28, version 2.5.3*

Just paid for this but there are no instructions or help options to know how to use it or what any of it means?!

### 1/5 — Crap! Not worth $5.00!!

*2018-10-24, version 2.5.3*

Can’t look at multiple locations. It only shows your current gps location. I want my money back.

### 1/5 — Incompatible with latest iOS?

*2015-12-09, version 2.5.2*

Does not default to searching at the present location. Much worse, though, is that it'll arbitrarily zoom in where you don't want it to. Whenever you don't want it to. Works well otherwise, but it'll test the heck out of your patience. Seriously in need of an update.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — When you need to know where the sun is

*2025-10-15*

Where is the sun? What angle? Where will it be on any particular date at any particular time. Or maybe you want to know when to shoot a particular place when the sun is at a particular point. This app can give you that info. I got the app many many years ago and it’s still working great! Oh and, they throw in the moon.

### 5/5 — Really helpful

*2025-01-16, version 2.6*

Absolutely perfect for planning a photo session in the golden hour.

### 5/5 — Still the best!

*2024-12-15, version 2.6*

I’ve used this app to schedule portrait sessions at outdoor locations since it came out. Even for locations I know well, hitting a peak light time is tricky. This app makes the process easier.

### 5/5 — Great App (one small bug)

*2024-10-27, version 2.6*

This app is invaluable for finding perfect photography locations for sun and/or moon rises and sets. Also useful for figuring out angles of illumination or dark periods for star shots! Noticed one small problem today—27 Oct 2024 when clocks change back in the UK from daylight savings to normal time—that the predicted time of the sunrise is an hour earlier than it should be, and that the angle of the sunrise is based on that wrong time.

### 5/5 — Good app

*2024-10-01, version 2.6*

I have only used it a couple of times, but have found it to be of great help.

### 5/5 — Best app ever!

*2024-07-03*

One of my top most indispensable apps. Extremely user-friendly with a simple clean interface that gives you tons of information. Must have for photography. Great for previewing lighting on any day and time. Also great for earth science and showing how the seasons change the lighting.

### 5/5 — I love LightTrac

*2024-05-21, version 2.6*

Works great!

### 5/5 — Perfect app for photography

*2023-07-16, version 2.6*

This app is perfect for photographers in knowing exactly what time of day is best for photographing outdoor subjects. Also great for drone videoing also!

### 5/5 — Great

*2022-09-04, version 2.5.6*

I use it for solar panels in addition to photo’s

### 5/5 — Best solar tracking.

*2022-08-01, version 2.5.6*

Love this app. Great interface and easy to use.
