### 2/5 — Hardware good but the app feels dated

*2026-04-05, version 3.29*

It would be good if the app and experience could feel more “modern” - more smart. It has the feeling of an engineers solution, not a users solution with a desirable user interface.

### 2/5 — Not Supported on Apple Watch

*2025-12-16, version 3.29*

App still not available on Apple Watch which is pretty big deal for me. I don’t think it ever will be. Lightwave which was ahead is starting to fall behind other manufacturers.

### 4/5 — Works well

*2025-11-08, version 3.28*

Great app, works well nothing to complain about. I just wish the app looked a bit more up to date, just modernise the look a bit. But other than that great products, great app.

### 3/5 — Flakey

*2025-05-29, version 3.26*

Sorry guys, but your Philips hue API lets you down massively. It’s very unreliable and often leaves my downstairs lights turned on at night when they are commanded to close either by automation or manually via a Lightwave switch / device. Some days it works perfectly, other days it doesn’t work at all… not good enough!

### 4/5 — Concept is great but still a bit buggy

*2024-05-28, version 3.22*

Have been a customer for years, using Dimmer switches, relays and then TRV’s. Reliability is good for the most part but disappointed it’s still a bit buggy, with some activations triggered in error by system. e.g. lights switched on by heating signal or wrong light activated by timer. (and TRV’s are noisy) Frustrating, given that it’s not new software/hardware. Tech support is variable - generally ok but not great. Still on the slow side. Overall still good but a lot that still has to be done to improve reliability and customer experience for products that are by no means low cost.

### 4/5 — Good control for smart home kit

*2024-01-13, version 3.21*

We use a variety of Smart Home apps to control various things around our home. The Lightwave app makes it particularly easy to programme schedules compared to some other devices. Pairing a Lightwave device to the Lightwave hub is very smooth too. But connecting that hub to Apple Home takes a bit of perseverance. Would be five stars of the Apple Home integration was slicker.

### 4/5 — Good quality, stable dimmers

*2023-12-01, version 3.18*

They’re good quality, they work reliably, and they’ve stopped trying to charge for core features like calibrating the dimming curve.

### 4/5 — Great app

*2023-10-15, version 3.15*

Great App, but continually prompted to upgrade to paid for version.

### 3/5 — App was great until 24 hours ago

*2023-10-14, version 3.15*

I’ve been using the app for a few months now without hiccup. That changed yesterday when the App failed to load. Ticket raised with support but no response yet. The technology is integral to every day life now and needs out of hours support.

### 3/5 — Poor use of accessibility features in app

*2023-03-24, version 3.11.4*

I would like to be able to give your excellent app five stars, but I'm unable to because the review panel fails to give me anything other than three stars when using Voice control with an overlay of names or numbers. I have a screenshot to illustrate the problem but can't attach it here. Please email me if you'd like to see it.

Once you have fixed it, I will be more than happy to update my review to 5 stars. This issue happens in many places on the app, put the rating panel is a great example of somewhere to fix it.

Cheers
John

### 4/5 — Needs improving

*2023-03-17, version 3.11.4*

Works well , but can be a lot better as the app is very limited

### 3/5 — Does not do what is claimed

*2022-12-03, version 3.10*

The app is generally quite good, the basic functions work well and the support is good. However the app is being blatantly missold as the description clearly states that it can be used to program random delays to give the appearance that someone is home when you are out. But the app does not support this, and the customer support confirmed it is not possible. As this is the reason I bought a lightwave product in the first place, I am not impressed.

### 5/5 — Lighting system

*2022-03-31, version 3.7*

When it’s working it’s great. Setting it up and calibrating can be tricky. But you need to stay positive and you will get there. Also, the support team are great at assisting remotely.

### 4/5 — it is functional but maybe could be better

*2022-03-11, version 3.7*

It works - that is the main thing.

I feel the UI is maybe a bit clunky and could do with some polishing

My main gripe is that you have to pair each device by pushing link buttons on each. When eg remote sockets have been hidden behind furniture for years - no mean feat.

Also I had some online relays on ip67 boxes in the garden. I would have to open these up to link. My previous solution is a Vera/Z wave + RF 433 box. This can pick up devices that are activated by a remote control - far easier

### 5/5 — Best of Brum

*2022-02-02, version 3.7*

Been a user of LightwaveRF for several years and recently upgraded a switch and a socket. The new Link Plus is a massive improvement on the original as you can now see the status of all devices. The first generation was good but second is excellent and it’s from the city of 1001 trades 😎

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Push notifications

*2025-04-26, version 3.24*

Despite ensuring marketing is turned off in settings, I keep getting push notifications through trying to sell me more Lightwave products, even though the entire house is set up with them. It’s not cool when companies use push notifications in this way, but really not acceptable when it still happens even if it’s apparently turned off. Sort it out!

### 1/5 — Advertising

*2025-04-26, version 3.24*

This app has recently been sending push notifications for sales and promotions which is frustrating and entirely against the preferences that I’ve set in the app to not send ‘promotional push notifications’. Please fix this! It’s not fair to have an app you need to operate hardware in your home taking advantage of notifications for marketing purposes.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-02-20, version 3.24*

I just found my old JSJSLW930 hub and tried to set it up but this new app won’t find it even when the lights are green on the hub. It seems I can no longer use it so won’t be buying into the LightwaveRF eco system again.

### 1/5 — Latest update has removed ability to add older dimmers

*2023-12-09, version 3.19*

After the latest update the app has “forgotten” half of my dimmers. All are the older connect series and they have now removed the option to add these so now cannot use the app to add or control older connect series. Very poor show this needs to be added back immediately.

### 1/5 — Seriously Lacking Important security features

*2023-10-19, version 3.16*

Lacks features from the previous Lightwaverf app. Automation can only turn the lights on/off either at the same time or at dusk/dawn or a set delay after dusk. Who sits there in the virtual dark? You turn your lights on before dusk, the app doesn't allow this, you can only set a delay, not an advance. Not so in the previous app.
There is also no ability to add a random factor in to vary switching time. Lights switching at the same time is a dead giveaway that there is no one home. This was possible in the previous app.

### 1/5 — Awful app.

*2021-12-23, version 3.6*

The app is used to occasionally remotely control a home heating system. The system uses the link plus hub, boiler switch and an LW921. The 921 was replaced and the app updated and that’s where the problem is. It worked fine until the new app went to work. The app is unworkable, non-intuitive and doesn’t function. Setting heating times is impossible - we can set an on time, but not an off time. Using the 921 to set on/off times is the only way to make it work and even that is odd - why can’t you set an on time before 05:30?
Lightwave products are, generally as good as any other, but the app programmers really need to get their software to a usable, stable state.

### 1/5 — subscription

*2021-11-18, version 3.3*

What the point in getting a subscription for features that I would only require once like dimming speed or multi press on switches.

I think you should rethink your strategy maybe allow modifications to the switches and charge for other things

### 1/5 — Disgusting update which removed standard features

*2021-10-15, version 3.3*

Seriously? An update whereby you can no longer turn lights in or off from the app without paying a monthly subscription?

Wish i invested elsewhere

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2021-02-10, version 2.17*

Forgets the thermostat settings for my heating, so a few days after I’ve set my heating target to 21°, the app forgets this and defaults to 40°. Forgetting my settings is bad enough, but why on Earth would you set the default to 40°c!?

### 1/5 — Basic functions with a glitch

*2020-12-01, version 2.16*

It’s basic, for the money you spend on hubs, switches and sockets it’s very basic!!!
Spent £900 on switches on a new build, also bought the hub. Added them all in easily enough but none of them will appear in favourites!!! The favourites screen tells you to add a device??
Some of the devices are ticked to be in favourites but still that screen tells me to add to my site.
The app works but the not being able to add favourites or certain lights / all lights into a large group / tiled area to see what’s on and what’s not without having to go into each room subcategory is basic and let down.

### 5/5 — Flaky and unreliable

*2022-11-18, version 3.10*

App has just failed as Lightwave admit due to their server problems. Now 24 hours without heating control. Lightwave plugs stopped working years ago. Cannot recommend. Very annoyed. Considering alternatives.
