## What is Limerino?

Limerino is a fast, native Twitch chat client for iPhone and iPad — and clips and past broadcasts play inside the app, with the chat that was live at that moment replaying right beside them.

CHAT, BUILT NATIVE
• Emotes from Twitch, 7TV, BTTV, and FrankerFaceZ render inline — animated, wide, and zero-width emotes included, with badges.
• Tap any emote to enlarge it and see its name, its provider, and its creator credit when the provider publishes one.
• Supporter name colors from 7TV render on chat usernames.
• Replies, reply threads you can follow, and Twitch's own pinned messages in a banner at the top of chat.
• Whispers built in. Read and reply to private messages.
• Open several channels, keep favorites close, and read two at the same time in split view.
• Chat history is backfilled when you join, so you land mid-conversation.

CLIPS, VIDEOS, AND CHAT REPLAY
• Tap a clip or video link in chat and it opens in a full-screen player instead of Safari. Timestamped links open at the right moment, and a clip can jump to its source broadcast.
• Browse any channel's videos and clips from the videos button in the chat header — sort videos by newest, trending, or most viewed, and filter clips by date.
• Past broadcasts and clips replay the stream's own chat, paced to playback: video on top with chat below in portrait, a side column in landscape. Replay is read-only.
• Share a clip or video link from Safari, or from any app's share sheet, straight into Limerino.

WATCH AND CHAT AT ONCE
• Pop the live stream in above chat and never miss a message.
• In landscape on iPhone the top bar steps aside so video and chat get the whole screen, and stream title cards tuck themselves away once you have read them.

MENTIONS AND NOTIFICATIONS
• Get a push when someone @mentions you, even while Limerino is closed. Alerts cover the channels you follow by default, and an optional wider scope reaches across the channels Limerino's monitoring network covers.
• Your full mention history lives in one Mentions list you can sort, filter by time, and search by sender — and a single inbox holds mentions, highlights, and whispers together.
• Stream, whisper, and chat-event alerts each get their own style — Prominent, Quiet, or Off — and bursts like sub trains and raid waves collapse into a single counted notification.
• Mute one person's notifications from their user card, or straight from a notification.

MODERATION AND COMMANDS
• In channels you moderate: timeouts, bans, an AutoMod queue, and a moderation log — with editable timeout presets that drive both the user card and the chat swipe.
• Poll and prediction lifecycle commands, colored announcements, and custom command macros with your own placeholders.
• Report or block anyone — every viewer, not just moderators. Block a user or mute a phrase and matching messages disappear, in live chat and in replay.

BUILT FOR IPHONE AND IPAD
• Sign in on Twitch's own page — Limerino never sees or stores your password. A Twitch account is required to read and send chat.
• On iPad, the channel list can sit beside the conversation while video and chat share the screen. A hardware keyboard, the menu bar and right-click all work, and a channel can open in its own window.
• A Home Screen or Lock Screen widget tracks the channel you were last watching, and an optional Live Activity follows a live stream.
• Per-channel themes, adjustable auto-hide timings, and controls for nearly everything.
• Accessible by design: Dynamic Type, VoiceOver, Switch Control, and Reduce Motion support.

Limerino does not host or stream any content: live chat and video are delivered by Twitch, and the chat history shown when you join a channel comes from the community recent-messages service. Limerino is a third-party app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Twitch or Amazon.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.8 — 2026-10-16

Predict, vote in polls and spend Channel Points in chat, watch live streams in Picture in Picture, make clips and put your own photo behind chat.

PREDICTIONS, POLLS AND CHANNEL POINTS
Tap the prediction at the top of chat, pick an outcome and how many Channel Points to use, and tap Predict. Vote in a poll from the top of chat or with /poll; where a channel allows it, Add a vote spends Channel Points on an extra vote. Moderators can run polls and predictions.

Your Channel Points balance sits at the top of chat. Tap it to redeem rewards or unlock emotes where a channel offers them. Settings > Banners & chat modes can show Hype Train progress.

PICTURE IN PICTURE
With the sound on, a live stream on the default Native player moves to a floating Picture in Picture window when you leave Limerino or tap the Picture in Picture button in the player controls. Closing the window pauses the stream. Settings > Video > Picture in Picture turns it off.

CLIPS AND VIDEO
While a channel is live, ⋯ > Create clip makes a clip on Twitch under your account and lets you watch it or share its link once it is ready. Profile > Your clips lists the clips you make in Limerino on this device. Clips play in Limerino's own player. In Settings > Video, turning off Live video player opens every channel as a chat room, and Start with video closed opens live channels on the Watch live bar. Live video holds up better on a slow or unstable connection.

CHAT
You see a channel's pinned message at the top of chat, moderator or not. Before your first message, a card offers the channel's chat rules. The line above the message box says what a channel needs before you can chat, and a row at the top of chat gives the reason when a moderator warns, times out or bans you. Moderators see Moderation history on a chatter's card. FFZ effects such as ffzX and ffzRainbow flip or animate the emote before them. A 7TV emote link shows as its emote card. Settings > Emote & badge display > GIF size makes GIFs sent in chat Small, Medium or Large.

CHAT BACKGROUNDS
Settings > Appearance > Chat background puts your own photo behind chat, in every channel or just one, with opacity, blur and saturation. The photo stays on this device.

MENTIONS AND ALERTS
Match case, under Settings > Mention alerts > Your username, counts a mention only when your username has its exact capitals. Identical mentions in a row from the same person collapse into one, and the Mentions list opens faster. Reading a mention in chat clears its notification and updates the icon badge. Settings > Activity alerts > Badges you can earn can alert you when a Twitch badge you lack becomes earnable or when you earn one, and Earnable now lists the ones you can still get and how.

PROFILE AND ACCOUNT
Settings > Badges > Twitch badge chooses the badge you wear, everywhere or in one channel. Opening Whispers brings in your 20 most recent conversations from Twitch. Settings, channels, chat logs, whispers and drafts belong to the Twitch account that set them up: signing out keeps them on this device, and another account never sees them. Settings > Account > Advanced > Choose permissions… lets you pick which Twitch permissions to grant.

iPHONE DUO
On iPhone Duo, Limerino follows the fold. With the phone half open like a book, the stream takes one side and chat the other; half open like a laptop, the stream sits above the fold and chat below.

ALSO
Your keyboard, draft and reply stay put when you open or close the video, and an image upload lands in the channel you picked it in. Emote autocomplete leaves no typed letters behind with predictive text on. Settings > Typing > Suggest your own name adds you to @ suggestions.

### 1.1.7 — 2026-10-04

The composer's + button opens Emotes again, including when image uploads are turned off. The extra smiley button is gone, and the recent-emote row control displays correctly.

Improved responsiveness when searching and inserting emotes. Fixed unnecessary image reloading when scrolling through animated emotes.

### 1.1.6 — 2026-10-03

Limerino comes to iPad, with Limerino badges, a cleaner Profile and Settings, Discord linking, Halloween themes, and highlight alerts that reach you while Limerino is closed.

iPAD
In a wide window the channel list sits beside the conversation, and the stream and chat share the screen side by side. Settings, the inbox, 7TV and channel logs show a list beside its detail, long text keeps a readable width, a chatter's card opens beside the name you tapped, and the videos and clips browser is a grid of thumbnails.

KEYBOARD, POINTER AND WINDOWS
A hardware keyboard completes a name with Tab, can send with Return if you turn that on, and reaches Settings and Switch Channel from the menu bar. A pointer highlights what it is over, and a right-click opens the same actions a long press does. Open a channel in a new window, and run Limerino beside other apps in Split View and Stage Manager. The Home Screen widget and a live stream's Live Activity work on iPad too.

BADGES
Limerino badges appear beside your Twitch badges, and animated 7TV badges now animate in chat. One Badges screen on your Profile shows your name with its badges as chat draws them, lets you choose which Limerino badge shows beside your name or none, lists your Twitch badges, and with 7TV connected lets you pick your 7TV badge in the app. BetterTTV Pro badges show in chat while BetterTTV badges are on. Tap the badges beside anyone's name to see what each one is and how to get it.

PROFILE AND SETTINGS
Profile is a few short groups: In chat, Connections, Channels, Your channel and Account. Settings is a short list of plain rows, and each group opens its own screen. Chat rows are compact by default; Settings > Chat display > Compact rows turns them back off. Emotes open with one tap from the new button in the message field.

DISCORD
Link Discord from Settings or Profile. The row says Link Discord until your account is linked, then shows your Discord name, and the Discord screen tells you when the server's channels did not open and what to do about it. The Founder badge is available to people with the Founder role in the Limerino Discord who link.

THEMES
Lantern, a Halloween palette, and saved themes in Settings > Appearance: name and save your look, then apply, rename, update or delete it. Limerino wears a jack-o'-lantern icon for October.

ALERTS WHILE LIMERINO IS CLOSED
One-word highlight rules with System notification enabled can send a push from your own channel or a channel you follow with mention alerts on. Multi-word phrases, patterns and username rules still alert only while Limerino is open. Choose live and offline alerts per channel; they start off, and quiet hours silence their sound. Press and hold a phrase alert to mute the person who said it.

CHAT
7TV image paints keep their colours and stretch across the whole name, and glow and outline paints render too. If you subscribe to a channel, its follower emotes work for you in every channel. A message Twitch refuses says why on the message itself, with Discard and Retry. Emote and name suggestions work after /me and other commands, and a single gifted subscription appears as one line naming its recipient.

Your settings survive a lost or unreadable settings store: Limerino keeps a local backup and restores it. Also improved notification muting, unread mention counts, replay emotes and badges, and cleanup when signing out.

### 1.1.4 — 2026-09-25

Steadier layout when the screen changes size, more room for the delay reading on the landscape top bar, and a Live Activities switch that tells you when iOS has them turned off.

LANDSCAPE
With chat beside the video, the top bar now keeps the stream's delay reading on screen on most iPhones: the exit button gives up its "Portrait" label first, keeps its icon, and still takes you back to portrait.

LAYOUT
When the screen rotates or changes size, the video no longer stays locked to an orientation the screen cannot show.

CHAT AND THE COMPOSER
The message box stays just above the keyboard, including a hardware keyboard's shortcut bar, and no longer climbs the screen for a keyboard that is not docked beneath it. When height is tight, the composer and the rows above it stay compact so chat keeps its space.

LIVE ACTIVITIES
If Limerino's Live Activities switch is on but Live Activities are turned off for Limerino in iOS Settings, Limerino's Settings now says so under the switch and offers Open iOS Settings.

### 1.1.3 — 2026-09-22

A brighter, centered glass app icon, a native live-video player, Siri and widgets, and fixes for launch and chat history.

NEW APP ICON
The glass speech bubble has a clearer face and a centered silhouette, with layered Dark, Clear and Tinted appearances on iOS 26 and iOS 27.

LIVE VIDEO
Choose Native or Embedded below the video or in Settings. The native player supports low-latency playback, play/pause and mute controls, quality selection, and a buffer that adapts to your connection. Video starts when you tap Watch.

SIRI, SPOTLIGHT, SHORTCUTS AND WIDGETS
Ask Siri to open or watch a channel in Limerino; channels you have opened appear in Spotlight, and the Shortcuts app lists every action. A Favorite Channel widget shows whether one channel is live, Control Center gets Resume watching and Open favorites, and Handoff carries the channel you are viewing to twitch.tv on a Mac. One switch in Settings controls all of it, on by default.

MODERATION AND CHAT
A timeout or ban is stated in chat, a moderator's warning explains itself, and lead moderators keep every power Twitch gave them. Your own slash commands lead the "/" list, badges sit level with the name, gift and sub notices show their whole message, 7TV personal emotes render natively, and the channel list can be put in the order you want.

CHAT AND RELIABILITY
GIFs sent in chat can play inline and open at full size. Whisper drafts stay open when you drag down on a conversation. Chat catches up after you return to the app, bot messages display their full text, and a launch crash affecting some iPhones is fixed. This update also includes improvements to landscape chat, emote name paints and accessibility.
