Thanks for the initiative. ### 5/5 — The best way to learn German *2026-06-07* When learning a language, you need to practice both the passive parts (listening and reading) and the active parts (speaking and writing.) Lingoda allows you to do both by having real quality live sessions with instructors and also accompanying texts and vocabulary support. It is by far the best language learning approach. Even in the age of AI where it is easier now to practice the active parts of language, there is no replacement for human interaction. I tried many others until I stayed with this one as it meets my needs. I love the guided structure of the levels and classes, the quality of the instructors, enjoy the prep work and review, and really enjoy the new features of Lingo bot! Would highly recommend! When I need to choose the next class in my curriculum, sometimes it is not available for days. They need to figure out this so that you can learn in order at a quicker pace. **Developer response:** Thank you for sharing your feedback with us! To help you progress through your curriculum at a quicker pace, we recommend booking your classes at least 7 days in advance. This will provide you with the widest range of options, including sessions that have not yet been assigned a teacher or officially opened to the general pool. Since our group classes are kept small (maximum 5 students) to ensure quality interaction, they automatically disappear from the search once they are fully booked. However, a great alternative is to check the platform at different times throughout the day; students frequently cancel their participation, which immediately re-opens those spots for you. If you require even more control over your schedule, our private classes allow you to open a session at the exact date and time of your choosing, provided you book them at least 48–72 hours in advance (depending on the language you are studying). All about money making. Hire a better CEO that cares about teaching and the people!!! ### 1/5 — Cash grab *2026-08-18* The platform started off great and I really loved it. But now every interaction I have feels like a cash grab or borderline scam. I have favorite teachers who I used to love taking classes from, but now they are allowed to cancel classes with zero notice leaving me with a teacher I don’t know and who honestly doesn’t care to teach me. I on the other hand am not allowed to cancel if this happens so I’m left with nothing to do. Another issue is due to work I got behind on my classes a bit and have a big build up, i tried to pause my subscription, but in doing so I’m not allowed to take classes. The credits become completely unusable even though I have paid for them. Why not let me use them? Because it’s a cash grab. The prices swing wildly as well. I noticed the price for my package is nearly half of what I’m paying. So new students get the new rate and old students get exploited, not a good way to treat loyalty, again cash grab. They’ve also lowered teacher rates, so good teachers have just left completely, and those that stay cancel constantly (presumably when they have better opportunities elsewhere). I can’t wait to finish using my credits and get out of this toxic predatory system. ### 1/5 — They ask for money even if you have already paid! *2026-06-30* I wanted to transfer my credits from one account to another (french to English). They are telling me we can only transfer 35 out of 48 because of price difference! While the classes have the same pricing. Unbelievable! After 175 classes in lingoda, Im thinking about leaving this platform and continue somewhere more reasonable. ### 1/5 — Scam *2026-05-23* This is scam, you have access to already bought lessons only if you continue paying. Will never use this service again. ### 1/5 — Good classes, abusive business model *2026-03-24* Say you’ve purchased (aka given them money) a batch of classes. Life happens and you can’t do all of them in a month. Bad luck. Either you continue accumulating classes every month (ok if you have 2, but not if you have more than 10, for example), or… well, you don’t have any option. If you pause the subscription, you can’t take classes while it’s paused. Yes, even if you have already paid for them. And then you can cancel your subscription, which revokes the classes you already purchased at the end of the active period. And all classes expire one year after purchase. You have no way out. Beware of the larger packages if you’re motivated and just started. It’s a trap. **Developer response:** We are truly sorry to hear that the structure of our subscriptions has led to such a frustrating experience. We completely understand that life can get busy, and managing a backlog of accumulated classes can feel overwhelming when balancing other commitments. To clarify how our system works, Lingoda operates on a subscription model where an active plan is required to access live classrooms and professional teachers. However, we have designed our credits with a one-year validity specifically to prevent you from losing what you have paid for; they roll over every month, so you can preserve them and use them whenever your schedule opens up again. Crucially, even if you choose to cancel your subscription, your unexpired credits remain in your account, and you can access them again simply by reactivating with a new plan at any time before they expire. Additionally, while our pause feature is intended as a break from live sessions, it allows you to postpone your next payment for up to four weeks while maintaining full access to all our practice materials and self-study exercises. We never want our students to feel 'trapped,' and our support team is always available to help find a reasonable path forward for using accumulated credits. While the mobile app doesn't currently support attending classes, you can still join them on your mobile device by accessing your account via a web browser (we recommend Google Chrome). Happy learning! ### 1/5 — Terrible Customer Service *2025-12-03* I signed up for the 12 lesson package and signed up for a class. I couldn’t get into the class and the only way to get help is the chatbot. I asked if I could use my iPad to take the classes and was told yes. But it doesn’t work. Then I was told I need to use safari not the app. At this point my class had already started, I switched to safari and when I tried to log into my account I just kept getting a 404 error message. I asked to speak to a real human for help and was told they only have the chat bot or email. I then missed the entire class waiting for a response. I wrote several email and they were of no help at all. I have emailed for a refund and am still waiting for a response. Terrible app. If you can’t take the class on the app what is the point of having an app???? **Developer response:** We’re very sorry to hear about this frustrating experience and for the confusion that led to you missing your class. We completely understand how disappointing this can be. To clarify, it is possible to attend classes from an iPad, but this must be done through a browser (we recommend Google Chrome) by accessing our web platform. At the moment, the mobile app is designed as a complement to the web platform: it allows students to practice on the go, complete additional exercises, and manage bookings without needing a desktop computer, but joining live classes is not yet supported directly within the app. We’re sorry this was not clearly communicated earlier. We also apologize for the login issue and the 404 error you encountered when switching to Safari. This may have occurred because the lesson had already ended, but we understand how this contributed to you missing the class despite your efforts to join on time. Regarding support, while the chatbot provides quick guidance, our human Support Team is always available via email and web chat. We aim to respond within 24 hours and do our best to assist every student as quickly as possible. Since you were unable to attend the class due to this situation, our Support Team may be able to exceptionally refund the class credit as a goodwill gesture so you can reschedule it. I used Duolingo for a few years including the paid version. It was a good baseline, but having a program to iteratively work through and practice speaking has definitely advanced my learning and confidence. The teachers have all been really nice and helpful - I certainly have favorite ones. The lesson plans are good too, and progress at a good rate. I have liked most teachers and loved like 10 of them, only had one or two I would avoid if possible. It's expensive and requires a lot of time outside the class to get the most out of it, but it's incredibly well put together and helpful, and organised in a way I find useful and interesting.
