## What is Lingora?

The most thorough language course you'll find in an app. 20+ languages, 500 lessons each, every single word of every sentence explained as thoroughly as you care to follow. One sentence might keep you busy for twenty minutes.

WHAT'S IN A COURSE
Each sentence gets a full lesson wrapped around it. 500 English sentences in all, hand-picked to cover every grammar structure and the full A1 vocabulary.

Each word comes with its own full dictionary entry: definition with examples, any conjugation or declension it takes, the grammar topics behind it, and stroke-by-stroke guidance for new scripts. If you want to know why a word looks the way it does, the app can tell you.

HOW A LESSON WORKS
Each lesson opens with the intro. You hear the sentence before you see what it means. Slow it down, replay as often as you want. Then the Word Breakdown. Tap any word to see what it means and the grammar behind it. Then the literal, word-for-word translation. Then the grammar topics sitting inside the sentence.

After the intros, the main session starts. Words and sentences from the current lesson get mixed with whatever's due for review, chosen by the spaced-repetition algorithm so you're practicing what you're closest to forgetting. Your own chosen exercise mix prioritizing reading, writing, or listening. Premium users can even further fine-tune exactly which exercises appear.

25+ WAYS TO PRACTICE
Six word games and six sentence games. Flashcards you design yourself, picking what goes on each side. Quick-review tables. Multiple-Choice. Context-clue fill-ins where the wrong answers are similar on purpose. Character stroke practice with real-time validation. Typing exercises with a virtual keyboard. A speech trainer with per-word, color-coded feedback. An AI chat that stays on the lesson's topic and corrects you as you go. And so much more..

REFERENCE
A dictionary that searches in native script, in transliteration, or in English. It finds base forms and inflected forms alike.

A grammar guide covering every topic that appears in the course. Each has a thorough write-up and example sentences, plus the words and lesson sentences that show it in use.

A pronunciation guide covering every consonant and vowel in the language.

Tone guides for tonal languages. Script courses for writing systems you haven't learned yet. Conjugation tables for every verb and noun. Character breakdowns for CJK languages.

WAYS TO FINE-TUNE
Three sliders to weight reading, writing, and listening in each session. Silent mode for studying in public. Transliteration style where more than one exists (Jyutping or Yale, and so on). Diacritics on or off. Full control over what the app does.

PROGRESS
You'll see progress word by word and lesson by lesson. There's a streak counter, stars on completed lessons, and a weekly leaderboard if you want one. None of it is forced on you. Lifetime users can also export anything they've learned as an Anki deck.

### 5/5 — Fun and useful app

*2026-07-11, version 6.1.1*

Great app for learning southern Vietnamese. A good variety of activities and lots of ability to listen to words being spoken and learn to differentiate tones. Support is quick and responsive.

### 4/5 — Not bad

*2026-07-07, version 6.1.0*

I am in the unique situation that I have been studying Spanish for six years. I am constantly in search of the silver bullet app that will help me the most. This app is almost there because it allows me to focus on what I need to improve the most: my listening. The only problem that I have is when I am building the words using the crossword style exercise. It keeps trying to slide the screen back to the main menu, and therefore it is almost not functional.

Although extremely basic and very slow moving, I will use this to improve my listening.

### 4/5 — Great for Cantonese

*2026-07-02, version 6.0.9*

This is a great app for learning Cantonese. There is one bug that makes it hard to use sometimes which is when needing to select a Chinese character for a multiple choice question, half of the options are so tiny you can't read them, so I just need to guess. Hopefully this can be fixed soon

### 5/5 — Cantonese is great

*2026-06-06, version 6.0.8*

So amazing for leaning Cantonese and makes it as simple as possible so helpful

### 5/5 — Solid Southern Vietnamese

*2026-06-06, version 6.0.8*

Can’t really find another app that has this dialect. Also, the app is made a lot better for people who actually want to learn a language rather than just being a fun thing to play with.

### 3/5 — Help

*2026-05-17, version 6.0.5*

Never have I seen an app with so much effort put into it, at least for Cantonese, a language where there seems to be a drought in resources. Great job on that, but there is a problem, not all audio files do not load for me, making the audio questions impossible. I’m on an iPhone 12 mini

### 5/5 — Rich app

*2026-05-08, version 6.0.3*

Using this for Cantonese learning. Really rich app, and not bloated. Since update May 2026 it’s become even better. Thought that the sentence based lessons would result in me just memorizing sentences without understanding, but luckily that’s not the case. The Cantonese sentences used are pretty formal, so best to pair with other sources to figure out the best words for daily use.

### 2/5 — Really good but hard to digest

*2026-04-04, version 5.1.2*

I think this app is amazing because it offers southern vietnamese which a lot of apps do not offer and it goes super in depth. however, the information is really hard to digest and process because the lessons are very lengthy and are at times a bit confusing and lack clarification. For example when the lessons provides an example for a concept it doesn’t have an option to see the definition of the specific words. This puts a lot of beginner learners who arent good at vocabulary at a disadvantage . Also, the formatting made it really hard to sit through because it was just one dark cohesive colour for the background and icons. Learning in the app is like sitting in a dark room being with a teacher who provides little clarification and yaps and yaps and yaps.I personally have the attention span of a rock so the lack of visuals made it hard to remember anything. I just think it’d appeal to a wider audience such as children and teenagers if there were more visually interesting elements and the information was spread out and bite sized. If I wanted in depth lengthy lessons, I wouldve just watched a youtube video or took a class. Overall, I think the app is really good at providing a lot of information but lacks clarity and engaging visuals.

### 5/5 — App is actually high quality

*2026-03-30, version 5.1.2*

My only asks is a screen time feature, because honestly this app is the perfrct format for screen time blocking for more practice. Also do the lessons go beyond a1?

### 5/5 — Great learning app!

*2026-01-10, version 5.1.1*

I have been using the app for Cantonese and it has been very helpful! Enjoy the format of learning sentences and the constant repetition. Comparative apps are a lot more expensive for a lot less, well worth the money!
