### 5/5 — Best immersion app

*2026-08-26, version 6.0.20*

I’ve tried lots of apps and courses over the years, but LingQ is the standout app for immersion. I’ve learned more
with this than any other.

### 5/5 — Apprentissage des langues

*2026-08-25*

Intérêt shadowing ( interactivité= même activité mais dans une autre langue, importation detextes reliés à nos propres intérêts

**Developer response:** Thank you very much for your 5-star review!!! We're glad you're enjoying LingQ!

### 5/5 — Awesome language app

*2026-08-25, version 6.0.20*

An amazing tool for learning languages in a freeing way. There’s everything you need to become a competent student in another language or two ! Revolutionary ! Still the best content & fun!

### 2/5 — Great app but developers are unresponsive.

*2026-08-23, version 6.0.20*

I’ve been using this app for 6 years and there’s been a few problems for years and they never get fixed. You can not highlight more than a few words at a time like in desktop which it’s important for denser texts with more complex structure. You can exit the app for a few seconds and it refreshes and it’s tedious to have look for and open the lesson again.

**Developer response:** That’s great to hear! Congratulations on your language learning success! Keep up the great work, and recommend LingQ to your friends. :)

### 5/5 — LingQ Review

*2026-08-21, version 6.0.20*

Reading, listening, talking and writing is key to language acquisition. LingQ is ideal in this respect, especially the former two inputs. However, with Ai the latter two inputs can now also be practiced. I have been using LingQ on and off for many years and I thoroughly recommend the platform. I found it particularly useful in the early stages of language acquisition with graded reading provision from A1 throughout to C1/C2 levels. Personally, I never used just used LingQ but also graded reading books on my Amazon kindle. These days I just use original novels in my target language which are at C1 to C2 level. I still use LingQ though, since I can fill in holes in my understanding. For example I find reported speech (news and newspapers) still challenging for certain topics such as politics and economics. In this respect, LingQs extensive provision still helps me to perfect my target language.

### 2/5 — LingQ Impressions

*2026-08-19, version 6.0.20*

The LingQ concept is great, although the implementation is somewhat rough at best. The AI quality ranges from very poor to almost okay. Translations can range from being completely off base and marginally correct to good. The AI pronunciation is not infrequently absolutely terrible, and sometimes inaudible. I keep using it because it is the only software package of its kind and despite the shortcomings, I am learning a lot. Please work on making the software as amazingly fantastic as it can be.

### 5/5 — Outstanding resource

*2026-08-19*

I find LINQ an invaluable addition
to my language learning journey.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your 5-star rating! We're glad you're enjoying LingQ!

### 5/5 — Love this App!

*2026-08-16, version 6.0.20*

I use LingQ all the time for learning languages. The mini stories are an excellent resource for learning and consolidating early vocabulary. After that you can import your own content which is a fantastic motivator. Thank you!

### 5/5 — LingQ Mandarin Chinese HSK1 course quite good

*2026-08-15, version 6.0.20*

It took me a while until I fully appreciated how good the LingQ Mandarin Chinese HSK 1 course is. I use LingQ in conjunction with four additional mobile apps: 2 specifically designed to teach Pinyin, one behind a payroll called Hello Chinese and a 4th for individual Chinese characters called Hanly. I pay for a yearly subscription to LingQ and appreciate it more and more, the more I use it. It goes without saying that I am a huge fan of polyglot Steve Kaufman.

### 5/5 — Three cheers for Lingq from a Mandarin learner

*2026-08-07, version 6.0.20*

LingQ comprehensible input materials and format are superb. Very grateful for this useful tool!

### 2/5 — Confusing

*2026-08-06, version 6.0.20*

There is no path. They just throw a lot of content at you. I’ve also found vocabulary errors and in German it is imperative to learn the article with the noun, but they do not include the article in the flashcards. Speaking of the flashcards they frequently show the same information on both sides of the flash card so they already give you the answer but making the flash card worthless.

### 5/5 — Fantastic tool.

*2026-08-06, version 6.0.20*

The app provides an enormous variety of content and can be used in numerous ways to suit the need of the moment. The learner only has to commit the time.

- This was a comment automatically generated by AI. It's reasonably accurate, though, so I used it.

### 5/5 — Feels effective

*2026-08-05, version 6.0.20*

This app is the most effective mobile app for learning language that I have found so far. The context contained in the stories makes it easier to intuitively understand words, and then the spaced retrieval system for practicing vocabulary augments this.

### 5/5 — Most effective language learning app

*2026-08-05, version 6.0.20*

Very effective, so long as you put in the work.

### 5/5 — Best language learning app I’ve come across.

*2026-08-04, version 6.0.20*

I’m a serious student of learning languages. This is the app I’ve been waiting for for years. If you want to play games, look for another app. If you want to learn languages, this will truly help you greatly. To the developers, well done and thank you!

### 5/5 — Belle app pour apprendre à son rythme

*2026-08-03*

Je trouve l'application très bien et j'apprécie aussi les lessons gratuites à disposition qui permettent de bien travailler avant d'aller vers les éléments payants pour aller plus loin dans le processus d'apprentissage

**Developer response:** Merci ! Nous sommes ravis que le contenu gratuit vous permette de découvrir LingQ et de progresser à votre rythme avant de décider si vous souhaitez aller plus loin.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — The head of marketing needs to learn some manners

*2026-08-25, version 6.0.20*

I received a message from Mr Kaufmann, the head of marketing at LingQ, addressing me as “Hi there”. I do not answer to “Hi there” from strangers.

### 1/5 — very unserious app

*2026-08-19, version 6.0.20*

good concept but terribly designed. don’t bother waiting for support to respond, there are plenty of other alternatives out there.

### 1/5 — Fraud

*2026-08-12, version 6.0.20*

Charged me even after I canceled.

### 1/5 — Fingerprint

*2026-07-15, version 6.0.19*

You have to do a lengthy questionnaire just to start, which eventually gets you to a page where you have to provide your fingerprint to continue and it doesn't appear skippable. No thank you.

### 1/5 — Rubbish app

*2026-07-13, version 6.0.18*

Asking for a huge money when YouTube and Ai has free options to practice my speaking .

### 1/5 — Needs translation

*2026-07-11, version 6.0.18*

The stories don’t do me any good if I don’t have the English translation below the French lines

### 1/5 — The perfect intermediate level app, but.

*2026-06-29, version 6.0.18*

First I want to say that I’ve been paying for this app for a while. It’s integral to my language studying, despite the use-case being flawed for MY specific target language (Russian)- even so, I find it and the lessons inside to be invaluable.

That being said, to anyone reading this: your mileage may vary, but I truly haven’t found a replacement for LingQ’s ability to generate audio AND transcriptions AND translate words AND phrases in real time—and create flash cards, too! Which, again, depending on your target language, will vary in helpfulness (especially if your target language significantly and often modifies the spelling of words, then you end up will a million cards. But at least your LingQ coin number keeps going up, so the dopamine button is there).

The AI implementation is wonderful, especially the LynxAI- I used to painstakingly screenshot the transcriptions just to copy the text and paste them into ChatGPT to generate multiple choice questions. Now, however, that can be done in-app.

I have TWO major gripes with the AI, though:

First: Please allow for the conversations with LynxAI to be done in your preferred language, too. Sure it’s incentive to know my target language better, but when I’m asking for multiple choice questions to test my comprehension of the passage, I don’t want to be confused about the questions. But I can get over this gripe, it’s totally bypassable by using the highlight-translate function.

Second: The screen reader voice.
I cannot deeply enough express my hatred for whatever is going on with the AI voice. In Russian, when it’s reading aloud, in its ‘attempt at sounding human’, it HESITATES. IT STUTTERS. IT LITERALLY SAYS “UHHH” AS IT’S READING LARGE PASSAGES! It’s so bafflingly stupid to hear a robot sound as confused about my target language as I am, and yet it’s the one with infinite, programmed knowledge. It’s an embarrassing implementation, and it frankly enrages me. It does not engender confidence. It sounds like it didn’t want to show up to work. At least Microsoft Sam didn’t sound bored when it would read to me. The uncanny valley of sounding robotic- which, mind you, has not been a problem for years now as we have all adapted to the voices of digital helpers like Siri- has been bridged, but at what cost? If I wanted to listen to someone speak Russian with absolutely no confidence, I would simply speak into my selfie camera.

The day that the AI voice changes to something less offputting, I’ll change my review back to five stars, but unfortunately the VERY useful and integral tool of generating brand new audio for texts is being undermined by this weird implementation.

P.S., Sorry to whoever’s baby the Russian screenreader voice is, but I’m going to hold your hand when I tell you this: your baby is ugly. Looking for change, but if nothing else, I hope the staff get a laugh out of this review. Thank you.

### 1/5 — Misleading

*2026-06-28, version 6.0.18*

There is NO free option you can only use the app for seven days. I wish they would say this in the description instead of making us waste our time going through the set up.

### 1/5 — Not a good language learning app

*2026-06-28, version 6.0.18*

I previously bought a subscription to learn languages but I faced lots of technical bugs, where the audio would skip to different places after pausing and playing again. This made the app completely unusable that I stopped using the app partway after subscription and ultimately did not renew. I reached out to customer advice several times in the past but they never addressed anything.

### 1/5 — Free Trial is Complete Scam

*2026-06-27, version 6.0.18*

Creates two subscriptions and charges you immediately for a non refundable subscription Even if you cancel within 60 seconds it refuses any possibility of refund

Where is the free trial? This is an intentional scam!!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Muito bom

*2026-09-05*

Vale a pena pegar a versão paga. Você ganha tempo principalmente escolhendo temas não tão complexos para melhorar o vocabulário, a confiança e a compreensão.

**Developer response:** Obrigado pela ótima avaliação! Ficamos felizes que você está gostando de sua experiência com o LingQ!

### 5/5 — Best language learning app/site there is

*2026-09-01, version 6.0.20*

Great App. There wasn’t much Hungarian language material I could find. It is much more difficult to find material than Spanish. This app lets me take anything I find online and upload it as a lesson. Or even documents I have in Hungarian. By far the greatest app! It’s the only language learning app I pay for. I started from knowing 0. I saw a lot of things online that it would be difficult to use this from the beginning… I didn’t know a thing about Hungarian and am reading and listening to full stories now.

### 5/5 — A great way to learn a language

*2026-08-29, version 6.0.20*

I’ve been using LingQ for several years now just got serious with it in the last year. It’s great for reading and listening and building vocabulary in many different languages at once or a single one if you choose if I use it for both French in Spanish and I’m very happy with the content.

### 5/5 — Well considered

*2026-08-28, version 6.0.20*

A great platform that tracks my learning without providing supra-normal stimulation. Really solid method for progressing my language knowledge. Thanks for all the work you have put into it.

### 5/5 — Mini stories

*2026-08-28, version 6.0.20*

Excellent

### 5/5 — Worth it

*2026-08-27*

Good reading practice for whatever level. Consistency is key. 加油。Some pinyin isn’t exact for Chinese words but it’s easy to work around that.

**Developer response:** Thanks! Consistency really is key. Glad LingQ is working well for your Chinese reading practice. If you spot specific pinyin errors, feel free to send examples to support@lingq.com so we can take a look. 加油!

### 5/5 — Good system

*2026-08-27, version 6.0.20*

I really like this system.

### 5/5 — Best language learning app

*2026-08-27*

I’ve learned thousands of new Chinese characters using this app. And I’ve also been using this app to listen and understand better. They also allow you to import content from YouTube or any other app. The LingQ system of learning is extremely effective. I can confidently say you can completely learn a language through this app alone (with a combination of talking with others). If you are serious about learning languages get this app. I don’t even write reviews often but this app is really that awesome. Probs to Steve and his team. 你们真的很棒

**Developer response:** Thousands of new Chinese characters is serious progress! Great to hear you're also using LingQ for listening and importing your own content. Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed review, and 谢谢你!

### 5/5 — Best way to learn more vocab

*2026-08-26, version 6.0.20*

Highly recommend to learn vocabulary. Really helpful once at B1 level

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-08-26, version 6.0.20*

I think LingQ is a great way to learn languages. It might be the only way I really like cause the stories are more fun than other ways.
