Thankfully, the Pocket Mags app came to the rescue and I’m now able to read this magazine from there with much greater comfort since it provides some accessibility settings. The LF magazine itself is great. This review is just based off my experience with the dedicated app. ### 3/5 — Too slow by modern standards. *2023-05-28, version 6.4* App works, all subscriptions are there. Can't you reflow the text like The Times? It leaves a lot to be desired. Bookmarking would be awesome, trying to download back issues or restoring subscriptions can be painful. The content of the magazine is excellent and I love reading Linux Format. Would like a more interactive experience, maybe a font enlarging feature other than just page zooming, but I understand that may be a lot of extra work that a small magazine team wouldn't have the appropriate resources to do that. My star rating is strictly rating the app and not the magazine content. Content gets 5 stars hands down. Thank you for a great magazine ### 3/5 — no bookmarking? *2014-11-02* i have downloaded some of the back issues (for IPAD) as i've enjoyed reading this magazine at the store but it's too expensive to purchase in North America (at the bookstore). However, the app isn't user friendly as there is no way to bookmark or favorite an article or page on the app. Also, when you go back into the app after leaving or turning off your ipad, you open up at page one of the magazine again, so have to scroll through the magazine again to find where you've left off. This is again where the favorites/bookmarking feature would really help. Other magazines on IPAD have this feature but this one doesn't, which is surprising. It keeps an otherwise great magazine from being truly enjoyable. ### 5/5 — Awesome, but needs something... *2014-09-29* I am a loyal subscriber to LXF, and I have loved every issue. I use an iPad more often than I have the opportunity to carry my bookbag around, so it would be GREAT if subscribers like me had a free digital subscription. The magazine content itself is great but the mymagazine account and their support is not satisfying. I paid for the magazine but cannot read it:-( ### 1/5 — Open Source Read only for 30 days *2019-03-15, version 5.2.3* So a magazine promoting the benefits of open source software. Yet, it is a paid subscription. Moved on. ### 1/5 — Paid no magazine *2019-01-30* Bought thru iTunes I wasn’t getting my issues but they were taking the money from my account every month. Customer support was slim to none when asking for help with the issue. When finally getting in contact with someone through email due to no number being available I was only refunded 1 month with issues I had paid for still asking me for payment before I could download. I reached out numerous times to only be ignored. Thanks Jellisa iTunes customer support. Would not purchase anything through iTunes in the future. ### 1/5 — Mag is good - app isn't *2016-02-19, version 4.4.1* Enjoy the mag but the app fails if using iOS 6 on a iPhone 3G. Also the 'extras' available from the mag with a subscription are not accessible for subscribers paid via iTunes. To be honest they should state that. ### 1/5 — Don't buy through apple!!!!! *2016-01-28* This would have been a 5-star review. However: If you buy your subscription through iTunes (for full price), you can only read your issues on Apple-branded hardware. If you create an account on their website, and buy that way, you can then sign in and read on anything. Support won't even be sympathetic, let alone fix the issue. I don't think I need to point out the irony in a magazine about Linux that doesn't work on Linux. Second, despite the fact that I have an active subscription, and all of the back issues, the app keeps bombarding me with offers to buy the back issues I already own. As I mentioned, this is a 5-star app, but since neither the publisher nor Apple will fess up to how badly you're getting screwed by buying this way, I thought I'd try to save at least one other person from this debacle. tl;dr: DO NOT BUY MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTIONS THROUGH APPLE IF YOU OWN ANY NON-APPLE DEVICES!!!!!! ### 1/5 — Keeps crashing on my iPad-mini *2015-03-02, version 3.8.3* I wish I can read my magazine but the app keeps crashing. ### 1/5 — Do not subscribe or buy from them *2015-02-23* Future Plc makes terrible magazine app. It is almost impossible to get a subscription from them that will work on more than one device (iPhone and iPad). They seem to make you purchase the magazines more than once if you want to read it on your iPhone and iPad. The condition said one month free on trial. On checking my Master Card a/c, I am surprised to find A$ 59.99 has been tacken. Please refund the amount, as, I have already deleted the app from my iPhone.
