## What is Listen?

Listen: enables audiences to participate in live performances and shared listening experiences through synchronised audio playback on their smartphones.

Created for composer-musician Hilary Kleinig's The Lost Art of Listening, Listen: allows audience members to participate in performances by playing specially prepared audio in precise coordination with other audience members and performers.

Listen: transforms audience devices into a distributed sound system, allowing people to become active participants in a collective sonic experience and can be used for music, sound art, theatre, public installations, educational projects, and immersive events.

Using event-specific audio content, Listen: can coordinate playback across multiple devices, creating spatial sound environments. Whether used by composers, artists, performers, educators, or event organisers, the app supports experiences where sound is shared, distributed, and explored together.

From intimate performances to large-scale audience participation projects, Listen: makes it possible to deliver audio directly to participants and integrate their devices into the creative work itself. Sounds may include music, field recordings, spoken word, soundscapes, electronic audio, interactive content, or other materials designed specifically for an event or project.

Listen: is built around the idea that listening can be a collective act. By bringing together the sounds played from many individual devices, the app helps create immersive experiences that encourage attention, participation, curiosity, and connection.

Features:
• Synchronised audio playback across multiple devices
• Event-specific and project-specific audio content
• Simple and intuitive participant experience
• High-quality audio playback
• Suitable for live performance, sound art, education, exhibitions, and public events
• Minimal setup required for participants

Listen: is intended for use in participating events and projects. Available content and functionality may vary depending on the organiser, artist, institution, or performance using the platform.

Listen together. Participate together. Experience sound in new ways.
