ידיעת הכפל נחשבת לאחת מתוך ארבעת פעולות החשבון הבסיסיות ביותר והשימושיות בחיי היומיום של מרבית בני האדם,
ולוח הכפל מהווה בסיס ללימוד והבנה של המתמטיקה בכל התחומים. 
לפי תוכנית הלימודים נושא זה נלמד בכיתה ב', ועד סוף כיתה ג' על התלמיד לדעת את לוח הכפל בע"פ.
