I like the features and UI… except a lot of it isn’t working. Can’t post a review, can’t seem to get that kind of things to work unfortunately. ### 3/5 — Buggy *2025-10-06, version 1.21* The app isn’t opening for me at all. ### 3/5 — Some books not listed *2025-10-01, version 1.21* I tried to add books to my current reading, and it is not listed on the app at all. I can’t even request it. What do I do now my reading numbers are off by one. ### 2/5 — Importing problems *2024-09-11, version 1.21* I mostly use storygraph so i only go into the app every few months. I had imported from both storygraph and goodreads before. When i tried again last week i would only have the option to go from good reads but it wasnt doing anything. I would get the notification that the import started but when clicked it says 0 of of 0 books. Storygraph had some missing books and i only got the option to import when i deleted my library. So i did the steps and exported and uploaded the export and waited for the import to finish thinking it just might take a bit. Its been 5 days and its still loading. Goodreads import button is still doing the same thing which is nothing. I submitted two reports and have received nothing yet. ### 2/5 — way too glitchy *2024-08-02, version 1.21* every time i do literally anything in the app it glitches. and especially when im trying to edit my reviews it doesn’t save even though i click the save changes button?? please get this fixed i want to really like this app ### 3/5 — Too annoying to use *2024-05-19, version 1.21* The first app I’ve ever deleted bc the UX was so frustrating. For example, if you add a book you recently read, mark it as read, and add the dates you read it, it will list the book as Currently Reading. Then if you try to update it to Finished, it registers that as you having read the book for a second time. Makes no sense! ### 2/5 — Didn’t like it *2024-02-18, version 1.21* At first, I thought this app was perfect for me, but then I noticed a lot of books were missing, and also, that it’s very messy. I don’t recommend, if you are an ADHD or OCD person, because it might frustrate and confuse your brain. ### 3/5 — amazing but outdated *2024-01-07* it’s a lot better and aesthetically pleasing than others available for the same purpose. the social features are just enough, pretty design, nice goal features… but the app is also outdated—the last updates were made 1 year ago. there are rarely covers for other editions or a huge catalogue to pick a book from. non-english books are impossible to find. there would be nice to at least have more news and infos on updates and useful content for the users ### 3/5 — better ux than goodreads *2024-01-07, version 1.21* Better ux than goodreads! But I can’t import my library from goodreads :-( ### 2/5 — Needs work *2023-11-29, version 1.21* I have been using this app on and off for over a year now. I like the design and overall concept of the app. But, it has a lot of room for improvement. I regularly encounter book pages with missing information (no cover, no synopsis, no author bio), as well as no book pages at all (including award winning books, nominated books, etc). I filled out a form months ago to become a “librarian” to help fill in missing data and what not, but never heard back. And today I spent a few minutes writing out a review for a book but after tapping save, i found that it did not save and no draft is available, so that review is now lost. I started using this app because a friend recommended it and because i wanted to divest from Amazon related alternatives. I hope this app will show signs of improvement soon. i’ve enjoyed using it besides the issues noted above. ### 2/5 — No SAVE button *2023-02-20, version 1.21* The iPad version of this app is broken - there is no SAVE button on the ‘edit book’ page. Works OK on the Mac / Safari version. Emailed the developers about this a couple of days ago and got no response - wondering if the app is still actively supported back at head office in Berlin. ### 3/5 — Very laggy *2023-01-16, version 1.21* I know this app is new and the creators are working on it, but it is laggy. I tried changing my email address and username and it didn’t let me. I had deleted my email address and needed to change it to a new one. Honestly, there wasn’t much to do on this app. It’s kinda boring. I just ended up deleting my account and the app. The idea is actually a good one but the app just isn’t there yet. ### 4/5 — Quite a fun app, could use a minor tweak! *2022-12-30, version 1.21* Love this as an alternative for good reads, much nicer on the eyes and easy to use, in general. The yearly goal list, is not updating automatically for me, perhaps it’s a bug? ### 4/5 — great *2022-11-01, version 1.21* Great idea, great app. Low budget (updates every 2 months…), so expect a few UX inconsistencies. I wish I could add personal notes to a book I’m adding (who told me about it / offered it to me etc). And that adding new books was a bit easier (auto retrieving data from worldcat?). There are also lots of duplicate titles in the database, not a big deal now but I’m concerned app may become slow or annoying (having to scroll through duplicates) because of it. For the positives : it’s simple, clear, easy to use. It doesn’t try to push a bunch of garbage on me (ads/sponsored content/recommendations) and is not riddled with useless features ### 4/5 — Switched from goodreads! *2022-10-26, version 1.21* I love this app it’s so much more user friendly than goodreads hence why I switched but my only issue is there’s no way to update which page you’re on and if there is it’s very confusing to find ### 2/5 — Useless for non-english natives *2022-08-13, version 1.20* Most of the books in Czech are either missing or lack covers and descriptions. I would have to catalogue 90% of my library which is an amout of work I simply refuse to do. ### 3/5 — ISBN & Edition Issues *2022-02-26, version 1.11* I enjoy the app, especially the social aspects, but I’m repeatedly frustrated at the inconsistencies with tracking book editions and ISBNs. When adding a book, you can edit the dates read, but then the app will sometimes change the version of the book. I’m often brought to books with blank cover squares and no descriptions. I hope this can get fixed! In addition to my previous issue importing, why, oh, why do they alphabetize authors names by the first letter of the first name?!?! Do they not know how to alphabetize authors?! I’m looking into other apps, as much as I like their layout, it’s pretty worthless if I can’t import anything into it and getting any assistance is nonexistent. ### 1/5 — Abandoned App? *2024-12-28, version 1.21* I will start by saying, I LOVED Literal. I joined back when it was invite-only and recommended it to everyone I know. The app I once loved has been all but abandoned by developers. Features no longer work, new books are not being added, and the promised reading wrapped was never sent out for the last two years now. I tried to reach out to support through email and social media channels with no response. ### 1/5 — save your time, go with a different app *2024-11-29, version 1.21* The import tools don’t work, the export tools don’t work. I had high hopes for this app, looks neat. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Fav book tracker *2025-05-28, version 1.21* This is by far the best app I have found for keeping track of books! I prefer its layout and functions much more than good reads (ew) and even to Storygraph. I also like the book club ability and the interactive nature of the app. ### 5/5 — Wonderful *2023-02-03* This app is an outstanding app if you want to review books! It’s fun to look at all the other reviews as well. You can set goals and write reviews and see other peoples thoughts on books which is cool. The only thing for me is sometimes (it’s only happened twice, recently) the app will just load and won’t work for a few minutes which is why it’s not 5 stars from me.
