## What is Literary Review?

Literary Review is Britain’s leading independent magazine for books. Published monthly, each issue features reviews of 50 or more of the latest releases, spanning fiction, biography, literary criticism, history, politics, cooking and crime.

The magazine surveys the wider cultural landscape too, publishing film and exhibition reviews, essays and features. With an international roster of contributors ranging from prize-winning authors and scholars to pundits and public figures, Literary Review offers an unparalleled range of voices, styles and perspectives.

The Literary Review app offers you access to the latest issue as soon as it is published, as well as to the complete archive dating back to 1979. For just £3.99 a month or £35.99 a year, you will receive a digital copy of each new issue every month and full access to the archive of over 500 issues, which is fully searchable. Non-subscribers can see a preview of each issue.

You can subscribe within the application for full access. During your subscription, you can sync back issues to your device. These will remain in place if your subscription expires, unless your device removes them (for example when running low on disk space). Re-downloading issues requires a current subscription. Subscribers will receive new issues automatically. Please note that issues are not sold individually.

Features of the Literary Review app:

• Swipe or tap the page edges to flip to the next/previous page.
• Use the animated thumbnail view to flick through the pages.
• Pinch or double-tap pages to zoom.
• Switch between single or double-page views.
• Search the current issue or the archive.
• Tap any page links to web sites, email addresses, phone numbers or maps.
• Tap contents-page links to jump to a particular article.
• Sync issues to your device for offline reading (requires wi-fi).
• Network connection required otherwise.

Subscriptions are available within the app at the following prices:

£3.99 per month
£35.99 per year

In addition, please note the following standard features of auto-renewable subscriptions:

• Your payment will be charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
• Subscriptions will renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Your account will be charged for renewal within the 24 hours prior to the end of the current subscription period.

### 1/5 — I used to love this app

*2025-03-18*

What happened? The app is great but no longer links to my subscription. I have renewed…the subscription was a gift so it's registered via my email.
When I log in with Exact Editions it does not recognise my email. The app is great, the link to subscriptions (and easy log in) would make it worth the while.

### 2/5 — Way out of date

*2024-07-28*

This app hasn’t been updated since Before Covid. It has no “view as text” option, though you can enlarge the text with a reverse pinch. You can’t forward an article to a read it later app & get it in readable form. You have to page forward to get to articles appearing further into the magazine. In essence, it’s just a replica of the print version.

This magazine is very good and deserves a better app.

### 1/5 — Great journalism terrible app never connects or downloads on time

*2023-02-03*

No one available for assistance
Still love reading but not worth aggravations

### 1/5 — Do not purchase LR’s digital subscription!

*2019-02-06*

I had subscribed to this journal for two years via iTunes, and honestly I am not purchasing any more digital subscriptions. Unlike most other digital subscriptions for journals, this one does not allow you to see/download any issues during the subscribed time.

This is ridiculous!

### 5/5 — Content 100% - navigation somewhat dubious

*2019-01-01*

I reall appreciate the ability to access past issues. But I really find navigating the app almost beyond me. How do I get out of “issues”? No idea. HELP NEEDED.

### 2/5 — WARNING!

*2013-08-28*

If you take out a subscription through this app, you will not have access on your PC, but can store them on iPhone. Take out a subscription on the website, you have access on PC, but can't store them! My advice: Until this kind of legalistic nonsense is resolved, subscribe to the paper edition. I wish I had.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2011-12-03*

This is a great bonus for bibliophiles like me. It's good value for money particularly with all the back issues that are available. A quality magazine available without the bother of storing print versions - presumably this is "greener" too.

In a word - fantastic.

### 5/5 — Wonderful

*2011-10-25*

As good as the London review of books, but I have not had access to this magazine because I live in California. I love that I can discover this publication through the iTunes newsstand!

### 3/5 — no access for print subscribers

*2011-10-21*

I have subscibed to the print edition. is the ipad edition included in my sub? (just like the spectator etc)

### 4/5 — A Feast of Words

*2011-10-20*

40 dollars for a year's subscription and six year's worth of archives? Looks good to me.

Exact Editions magazines are what the name says - exact copies (pdf?) of the print edition, not electronic versions. This is ideal for non-ephemeral magazines like LR, where layout and typography are important. Navigation is primitive - I should say 'traditional'. Best suited to iPad, I suppose. But worth it, in my opinion, for the elegance - and the historical record.
