After 2 or 3 lines you are unable to see what you are typing. What makes it even worse is that developers seem totally unaware. News stories constantly repeated (or at least versions of it). Stories presented by weird, nonsensical headlines which only serve to irritate the reader. Echo support said I could alter text size in Settings but I can’t find this option at all! ### 1/5 — App doesn’t work properly *2025-04-26, version 9.5.0* Bug city in this app. While scrolling a story it often glitches to the end section where adverts are, you then have to scroll up. The odd article will also close the app completely. Aside from the app the echo is pretty poor these days in terms of news, focusing on how scouse you can be! ### 1/5 — Not news anymore *2025-01-27, version 9.4.1* It’s more a cheap review mag ### 1/5 — Bloated Power Drain *2024-12-17* The sheer amount of ads present on the home page (alone with other issues) cause even my brand new iPhone 16 Pro Max to get hot, laggy, and use 10% of the entire battery in 20 minutes. Absolutely unfit for purpose, and I’d argue with that level of power draw it’s almost a virus. That’s not to mention the incredibly low quality drivel that populates this news app - the boss of Reach (the parent company of the paper) said that reader engagement and the quality of articles did not drive revenues as much as volume of content”, and further went onto say that “We don’t talk about engagement and quality” in management contexts. This is an app that doesn’t value your phone, and a newspaper that doesn’t value your time or intelligence. Avoid it and start reading The Post instead if you want excellent quality local journalism. ### 1/5 — Don’t bother *2024-11-22, version 9.3.9* Shocking paper has plants working in the comments section saying things to provoke people to comment on there because it’s dying and nobody buys it anymore ### 1/5 — Current update issues *2024-08-10, version 9.3.2* iOS 17.6.1 on iPhone 15. The app keeps auto scrolling down to the adverts at the bottom of each story, so you can’t actually read the article. ### 3/5 — Freeze *2024-05-19, version 9.2.5* This app is slow and often freezes ### 1/5 — Too many annoying ads *2024-03-24, version 9.2.3* It’s just so frustrating trying to read an article when the page is invaded with stupid pointless adverts. The page doesn’t stay still or scroll properly. The content of the echo has changed dramatically. Stories of Warrington Widnes or Wirral are of no interest to us in Liverpool. The Daily Post used to be Wirral focused but that’s changed. The Echo has lost its identity. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Amateurish app *2026-08-09* 1 Needs to have more consistency about the WHEN the 7 free articles are restored Eg if it’s restoring 7 free articles after seven days at 12 midday stick to that . Willy nilly random restoring the 7 free articles just causes confusion and wastes valuable time. 2 Developers do not always reply to feedback customers give when a reply is expected. That’s disrespectful of their users. 3 Give customers more choice on their content. Some of us don’t want Headline News of Latest Stabbing content forced upon us. We just want to see how our football team is doing. 4/10. Could do a lot better . ### 1/5 — Useless *2026-05-12, version 26.4.8* Horrendous app to use. Freezes and locks out. The Premium option overseen by an out of town media company is the final nail in the coffin for the once magnificent Liverpool Echo. Now they insist on charging £5 per month, it’s really not worth it. You get 10 articles ‘free’ per week but really it’s a waste of time. If you want to pay for news, this is not the place. ### 1/5 — Liverpool *2026-01-19, version 9.5.14* The paper only has Rooneys in it. ### 1/5 — Echo needs to leg it! *2026-01-08* Not even a Liverpool newspaper, these proper doggy journalists spend about 10 minutes in Liverpool, take their picture in sevy park, repost an article from abar 15 years ago, get back in their Fiat 500’s that’s powered by fairy dust and go back to living in Chester. 90% of the articles are all clickbait, other 10% are about somewhere else in the UK. Full of those blatent fake adverts that are designed to track and steal identities if they are clicked on, considering alot of the Echo’s readers are in the older age bracket will not even recognise this and will probably end up getting their pension sent to Nigeria. Absolute stinker of an app this, oh and now those dog poo articles are locked behind a paywall subscription after you read 1-2 of them, wouldn’t be surprised if the app is logging people’s details and selling them on. Dont waste you phone space on this, rather read your news on google instead and will probably still be more local than these lizards. Weapons! ### 1/5 — Short story long *2026-01-02, version 9.5.12* .. I’ve considered paying for premium .. mostly for the football.. however every story starts with repeated history.. for instance.. January window .. Liverpool FC sign a player .. before we get to the story .. it’s .. Trent left .. Diego Died .. LFC spent £££ .. Sala this . ..Isak that Slot said .. the fans think .. last year .. and then .. the story .. it’s all headlines .. no news ### 1/5 — Too many ads now echo now wants money to read articles *2025-12-31* Lately this app has had a HUGE increase in the number of ads popping up and filling the screen. A lot of them are difficult to close. This makes it almost impossible to read an article. Many times I’ve had to abandon my attempts and close the app. Today I find they want me to pay a subscription to read more than 10 articles. That’s not happening. I’m not going to pay to read news stories I can read free elsewhere. I have deleted my account at the Liverpool Echo and I will be removing the app from my phone. Note to developers - money grabs are a sure way to lose people.
