### 5/5 — Best dictionary app

*2025-04-06, version 1.18*

I can't imagine seeing an app that just works and doesn't show loaders on every tap because of fetching data from the Internet. It's absolutely perfect and this app works blazingly fast!

### 5/5 — Tremendous

*2025-03-19*

Not only does Lngo do what it claims flawlessly, but it does so for free and without distractions. Kudos to Nicholas Hershy.

The only additions I’d appreciate are providing inflected forms or derivatives of a searched word (e.g., “length” or “longing” when I search “long”), and the ability to browse the dictionary lexicographically.

Lngo is a perfect example of the kind of tools we should expect from the information age.

### 5/5 — Best dictionary app ever

*2025-02-26*

it’s the best dictionary app i’ve ever used. simple and fast. I feel like I was looking for this all my life!

one thing is that the mac version doesn’t seem to have the save function (that’s done by swiping on ipad)

**Developer response:** Thank you for the kind words! I took a look at the issue you highlighted about the Mac app. I did not realize this before, but I have the Apple Magic Mouse, so I'm able to simply swipe to save the words on the Mac. I'll have to update this to add a "right click" to save on normal mice. I'll add this in a few weeks. Apologies for the oversight here!

### 5/5 — Modern interface, comprehensive offline use

*2025-02-01*

Can’t recommend enough

### 5/5 — What I wanted.

*2025-01-26, version 1.18*

I was looking for an app that saved words I searched. A saved list that I could review later. I found it in this app. (Could have more clearly instructed me that swiping is how you save words)

### 5/5 — This is an excellent, highly underrated app!

*2025-01-19*

I must say i was skeptical about it seeing its not very popular or have lots of reviews but after using it today, this is exactly what i wanted. Perfect? i think so.

### 5/5 — Wonderful

*2025-01-03*

Exactly what I’ve been looking for! Simple, clean UI; no fussy sign-ins; and actual offline functionality without having to pay.

The only suggestion I could offer is to maybe broaden the scope of the synonyms? Particularly when it comes to scientific applications or not-quite-everyday stuff. Even the simplest additions, such as expanding the synonyms of “microbe” to include more than just “bug” and “germ,” would be greatly appreciated.

That’s just a little personal preference though. Keep up the great work!

### 5/5 — It’s a GEM!!

*2024-11-23*

I couldn’t agree more with the other reviewers. Thumbs up!

### 5/5 — Functional and accessible!

*2024-11-21*

I found this app a few weeks ago (after deleting multiple dictionary apps—as a copy editor, I'm extremely picky) and downloaded this, and it's been wonderful! Love the design, the usability, the lack of ads, and the accessibility. I'm SO glad this exists, and I hope the creator keeps maintaining it. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Absolutely Phenomenal

*2024-11-07*

I am ecstatic to have found this wonderful app. A labor of love that has become such a boon for me and colleagues I’ve recommended it to, I can’t thank you guys enough for this. Fantastic.

### 5/5 — No Frills, No ads, perfect

*2024-09-18, version 1.17*

Thanks so much to the developer, so nice to just find a simple app for free with no intrusive ads, allows clean and pure focus. Thank you.

### 5/5 — Complete Dictionary Solution

*2024-09-17*

I have never written a review for an app before. This is the cleanest and most truly useful app I’ve ever downloaded. Period. It has fantastic UI and includes functions I didn’t even know I needed (front page pronunciation guide; antonym search; word learning; etc). Please give this app a try and spread the word.

### 5/5 — A gift

*2024-08-22*

sometimes people do things not for profit, nor for recognition, but as a true offering to the community. This app is such an offering. Thank you for this amazing resource.

### 5/5 — Simple and Effective

*2024-08-14*

I saw that this app doesn’t have a lot of reviews, so I decided to write one. Lngo is clean and straightforward to use without a bunch of distracting adds. I like how quickly I can switch to synonyms and can even save words to review again later! Will be keeping this in my repertoire for when I’m writing.

### 5/5 — Yes!

*2024-08-12*

Lngo works flawlessly. It’s straightforward, packed with useful features, and miles ahead of other dictionary apps.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 2/5 — Half forgotten passion project

*2025-01-25, version 1.18*

Good enough for people looking to escape ads but at the cost of usability. I’d rather pay 5-12$ (once) for a better UI/UX rather than have this app slow me down in searching for words.

### 3/5 — Issue with “Saved” list

*2025-08-25, version 1.18*

In general the app is great, but for some reason everytime I close and reopen the app, all of the words I had saved beforehand are erased completely. That sort of defeats the purpose of the flash cards.

### 4/5 — Slow loading

*2025-09-02, version 1.18*

This is a good app that is freeto use.i got annoyedby paid apps and ridiculous prices they charge for a simple word search. This app does the work but, maybe for my cae, takes around 10-15 seconds to load, approximately close to open up a physical dictioanary and lookup. I use iphone 8 plus so it may be bcause of old hardware.

### 4/5 — Very well done! I think this app is great, and has potential to be exceptional with some additions:

*2025-07-28*

I’m pleased with the quality and depth of the definitions, the care put into the app design, and honestly- everything.

What I wasn’t able to find was a true breakdown of verbs and their conjugations in my following searches (just one example):

- I searched “to be” (excluding the quotation marks) to see how the application defines the verb in its infinitive form. The results seemed to be the result of a software blip, as the results did not have anything to do with the search as intended, but instead searched for character string matches among phrases (whose definitions were included, at least), which is sufficient for searches consisting of a single word only. A lot of other apps are able to accommodate this exact search, including WordReference in particular, who I will circle back to, and if your pursuit is truly to become the best dictionary out there, then, in my opinion, pages/results for infinitive verb forms are mandatory.
- - Out of curiosity, I also did take a moment to see if I’d find what I’m looking for by including the quotation marks to indicate a single phrase, but this made the results worse.

- I searched for “will,” and separately “am”, and various combinations including and excluding the subject across different tenses and moods, to no avail. I still didn’t find any mention of the infinitive form, or even any mention of “will” being connected with “am”.

I mentioned wordreference because I think they have some features that you are lacking- though their app is very old.

They have a whole tab dedicated to showing the ENTIRETY of a verb’s conjugated forms, including infinitive and participial forms. You could even use them to source this data! In my experience it is exceptionally accurate.

Finally, it would be nice to have a click-to-search function implemented. If I’m reading a definition, and find an unfamiliar word, the convenience of being able to click the word- even if it lacks the hyperlink blue text and underline- to take you to that word’s dedicated definition. And they included a back button so you don’t have to start over every time.

Again, really great work, and you are all amazing for doing it. And with the dedication to perfection already being near impeccable, I truly hope that there will be potential consideration to resolve and address these issues.

Thank you!!!

### 4/5 — The only thing missing

*2025-06-01*

This app seriously needs a web search function for when a word is not found. Otherwise, it’s been great.

### 5/5 — Excellent, superb, outstanding

*2026-02-01*

A truly FREE dictionary, with etymologies, *and* a save word function?! I cannot thank you enough!

### 5/5 — Great dictionary. Simple.

*2025-12-15*

Great tool. Hoping development continues

### 5/5 — Functional and accessible!

*2025-10-31*

I found this app a few weeks ago (after deleting multiple dictionary apps—as a copy editor, I'm extremely picky) and downloaded this, and it's been wonderful! Love the design, the usability, the lack of ads, and the accessibility. I'm SO glad this exists, and I hope the creator keeps maintaining it. Thank you!

One-year update: this is still my go-to dictionary and thesaurus, even when I need multiple resources. It's charmingly simple but comprehensive. My very minor nitpick is the search box's inability to bypass autocorrect. The app is wonderfully fast, so a partially typed word often elicits the entry I want. But I can't just click the entry, because if I don't fill in the rest of the word, autocorrect will change it, and the entry will disappear/change. This is a common UI issue that I'd love to see fixed, but with or without it, the app continues to be a delight.

### 5/5 — Saved words: broken

*2025-10-08*

I appreciate the idea of this app (and in general it works well) so I will give 5 stars but the one feature that is heavily bugged is the saved words list. They constantly get deleted for no apparent reason, this is very frustrating! Thanks

### 5/5 — Impressive! Incredible! Marvelous! Outstanding!

*2025-09-03*

This is simply THE BEST dictionary app! Other dictionary apps have been very disappointing & ruined by capitalism. I was pleasantly surprised to not be bombarded by ads or have to pay a ridiculous subscription fee! Thank you for putting the time into creating a genuinely incredible app :)

## Most praised reviews (5 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Almost perfect

*2025-08-12, version 1.18*

This, ladies and gentlemen, is how you make an app. Simple, fast, effective, offline. Great definitions, etymology, pronunciation, it’s all there. And did I mention it is completely free with no ads?! The only thing that would improve it would be make each synonym and antonym clickable, so that I could look it up.
Thank you dev, you did a fine job!

### 5/5 — Great

*2025-07-26, version 1.18*

This is the best dictionary app that i was able to find on iOS.

### 5/5 — I love it, but have a question!

*2025-07-13, version 1.18*

Hi! So far so good, this app has so much good stuff, I appreciate it very much. I just think it lacks (or I can’t find it then I would be grateful for an advice) the option of saving words you’ve searched/creating your own wordlist eg. I’m reading a book and I would love to have my own dictionary of words I got to know while reading it.

Is there an option like that or would it be possible to add it?

### 5/5 — Harika

*2025-06-18, version 1.18*

Perfect for learning

### 5/5 — The best free and offline dictionary

*2025-04-25*

This dictionary app is the GOAT!
