## What is Local AI Chat?

SmartFruit provides a chat interface to test Apple Intelligence's local language model on the device. It works offline, thereby protecting your privacy.

The on-device model is supports a wide range of text generation tasks, like summarization, entity extraction, text understanding, refinement, dialog for games, generating creative content, and more. World knowledge to a lesser extent. The quality of responses in this area is naturally not on par with large cloud-based models, but that’s beyond my control.

Especially developers can try out all generation options of Apple's Foundation Models framework and get a corresponding code example.. Furthermore, chats can be archived for later review after a one-time in-app purchase.

in die Möglichkeiten eines so kleinen Modells. leider funktioniert die Kopieren und Teilen Funktion bei mir nicht. iPhone 15 Pro. Habe die Archivfunktion gekauft.
Nachtrag: Das Kopieren funktionierte dann nach einem Neustart des Handys problemlos.

**Developer response:** Ich habe es selbst noch mal auf einem iPhone 15 Pro getestet und kann den Fehler leider nicht reproduzieren. Einzelne Prompts und Antworten lassen sich kopieren, indem man lange drauf drückt. Und für archivierte Chats erscheint zusätzlich oben ein Button, mit dem man den gesamten Chat teilen kann.

Es gibt als Antwort immer nur, dass man Informationen unter Apple.com findet. Leider ein Problem der Apple Intelligence API. Deshalb trotzdem 5 Sterne für die App.

**Developer response:** Die App bietet nur Zugang zum Sprachmodell von Apple, um es auszuprobieren. Auf die Antworten habe ich leider keinen Einfluss. Die App danach zu bewerten, ist ein bisschen so, als würde man einen Kellner dafür verantwortlich machen, wie das Essen schmeckt. Man sollte auch bedenken, dass ein so kleines Modell kein umfangreiches Weltwissen haben kann. Es ist auf Textverständnis und Textgenerierung optimiert, aber kein Wikipedia-Ersatz. Zudem scheint es auf Englisch etwas besser zu funktionieren.
