I have been using LocationScout for years - I don’t even know how long it’s been, but to be honest I just downloaded the app today. If you are a photographer, enjoy sights from images you see from other photographers, or just are a tourist / content creator / influencer looking for the perfect spot to take shots for content and your channel - this is seriously where it’s at. I recommend this website + app to all my photographer friends and it’s really changed the game when it comes to capturing the perfect image for your portfolio. The creator is extremely kind and when I had a question on something, they were able to respond to me within an hour of me sending the email… on the weekend! I don’t know who is reading this but take a chance and download it. It’s freaking awesome.

I have just started using this app as we travel a lot and I was initially looking for photo opportunities for our forthcoming trip to South America. Gives exact locations and photos. A nice edition is directions of sunrise and sunset. Also parking nearby and how busy to expect the location. 
Once this app hopefully grows there will be more locations added and more photos! I know I will be adding to the locations we will visit, especially the Falkland Islands

I’ve been using this app from the early days of its existence, not often as a travel assistant, but as a place where I can add photos, particularly in my part of the world in Australia where there aren’t so many spots listed. I hope this may assist others who visit our amazing country. A bonus that I didn’t expect was that Locationscout became a sales vehicle for some of my photos. Loving it!

Ich nutze Locationscout mittlerweile regelmäßig, wenn ich unterwegs bin. Die App hilft mir, spannende Foto-Locations zu finden, die ich alleine nie entdeckt hätte. Besonders gefällt mir die Community – man merkt, dass die Tipps von echten Fotografen kommen und nicht einfach aus einem Reiseführer. Die Bedienung ist übersichtlich, die Suche funktioniert super, und die Inspiration, die man bekommt, ist Gold wert. Absolute Empfehlung für alle, die gerne reisen und fotografieren!

This app is without doubt the best out there for finding great photography locations.  A sample of images and details of where to park close by and how to get to the actual location is brilliant. Also tips on getting that shot. What’s not to love??? 
It’s worth every penny. 
Also the response from the developer when asking advice is fast and reliable. 
Take the plunge. Get the app on premium. You won’t regret it.

Over 90% of the locations are locked behind a paywall. Not worth the money.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. The vast majority of Locationscout can already be used for free, including exploring and viewing 274,000+ entries, all for free via the Explore tab or Search. Premium simply unlocks additional planning features for photographers who travel regularly.

If it isn't worth it for your needs, that's completely okay. But saying it isn't worth the money because Premium features require a subscription is a bit like saying a cinema ticket isn't worth it because you can't enter the movie without buying one. The free version remains available for everyone, while Premium helps fund new content and development, and keeps the app completely ad-free.

As a solo developer, I have to finance more than 12 years of continuous development somehow. I deliberately chose subscriptions instead of ads because I would rather spend my time improving the platform than finding more places to show advertisements, and I don't want to rely on ad networks that monetize users' data. I signed for the free trial. It looked really useful. I was unable to use it - other commitments.. so I tried to cancel. Before the free period was up. No where could I find a notice saying how- that was accurate. If you have premium then what is standard. I have no idea what I am signed up for. All I expect us to get charged in a few dates for something I wanted to cancel. Same old story. Buy it if you want just ignore the free try out. If you sign up you bought it. Mistepresentation…

**Developer response:** Hey John, again, I’m sorry that this was frustrating for you. That’s definitely not the experience I want anyone to have. I replied to your email within 45 minutes on a weekend because I genuinely try to help as quickly as possible when someone has issues with a subscription or trial.

To clarify for others reading this: subscriptions on iPhone/iPad are managed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Unfortunately, developers cannot directly cancel subscriptions for users or change Apple’s subscription system.

Like other iOS apps, you can cancel in under a minute through the App Store. Inside the app, there’s also a direct shortcut with just 2 steps, making the app cancelable in less than 30 seconds:

1) Open “Settings / Premium”
2) Tap “Manage Subscription”

This opens your active App Store subscription directly, where you can cancel or disable renewal immediately.

I also send a welcome email when starting a trial that includes:
1) direct contact information to me personally
2) a large step-by-step explanation on how to cancel anytime because I really care that this is as easy as possible

There is additionally a detailed help page explaining cancellation for both Apple and Android. On the web, there is even a 30-day money-back guarantee because I care so much about providing real value to users like you. I can't give that via the App Store, but I absolutely would if I could.

I’m always open to improving the experience further, so I truly appreciate constructive feedback about where the process felt unclear. I didn't receive an answer from you via email yet, but I would be very thankful to learn what exactly I could add on top of what I'm already doing to make it even easier. The other reviews and my always detailed and personal feedback should show you that this isn't an empty phrase and that I actually care, even on weekends.

I understand the frustration around subscriptions in general, but I hope it’s also visible that I responded quickly, provided direct support, and already offer multiple clear ways to manage or cancel Premium at any time.

Signed up for free trial. Showed me a beautiful photo of a river at sunrise and the location it was taken at. Apparently, it was taken on the middle of a roundabout in Norwich, nowhere near a river!!! And they want to charge you £53 for that.

I downloaded the app because I created an account on my Mac.  I can login on my Mac perfectly fine but the app will not allow me to login. Username and password entered and the login button/tab is grayed out. I reinstalled the app multiple times but nothing.

rGPS is £8.99 for the year and you want to charge that for a month with no reviews or back up to show your app is worth 5 Stars. 
Over £50 for one year! Instagram is free and rGPS want what you are charging for a month! What a joke!

Sorry, nope.  I wanted this app to be a simple to use tool for planning photo trips, and collating bucket lists and it may have the functionality to achieve that but the pricing is grossly excessive.  When I get Lightroom for about £100 a year, this little app is ridiculous at £60 or so.  Bearing in mind its value hinges on the users enriching the database, we are being charged to input our own data effectively.  Nope - not happening, however good the app may be.

One thing worth mentioning is that all photo spots are already available for free. Premium is optional and helps fund ongoing development, curation, weather data, maps, trip planning features, navigation, personal support (even on weekends), and an ad-free experience, even for you as a free user. All thousands of updates are transparently listed here (www.locationscout.net/whats-new) and you can actively request features from a developer who actually cares about you.

While many spots are submitted by the community, a great deal of work also goes into reviewing, maintaining, improving, and enriching the database. Over the years, I've manually made hundreds of thousands of content improvements to help photographers get useful information beyond just a pin on a map.

As an independent developer serving a niche photography community, the economics are quite different from software used by millions of customers. Unlike editing software, the value of a location discovery platform is often measured by the trips it helps plan and the places it helps photographers discover while saving countless hours of research. If you aren't traveling this much, I would recommend staying on the free plan and only upgrading to Premium on a trip. Then it's only 9,99 for the entire year. Still, I appreciate the feedback and will continue working to increase the value of Premium on a daily basis.

The app has a great concept and from what i can tell its actually pretty good but the premium subscriptions are a rip off. Theres a monthly or yearly plan and for the yearly its 70$ total which would break down to 6$ a month. I already feel like thats too much to continuously pay for what the app is and what its for but whats worse is if you dont want to commit to a yearly plan the other plan actually costs double being 12$ paid each month. Which is actually crazy since thats cost more than most streaming platforms basic plans. Its ridiculous and it feels pretty shady that to avoid paying a (honestly) unreasonable price monthly for premium (and instead pay what i still think is too much) you have to commit to paying for a year paying 70$ upfront. Plus the free trial is only three days which definitely doesnt give a normal person enough time to see if its even (relatively) worth it or not (which again, for either plan its definitely not). I do want to clarify though i only take issue with the premium prices, not taking the cost of premium into account the quality of app itself is 10/10. Its well formatted and easy to navigate, it isnt bare and has plenty of locations, has a ton of features that actually helpful and it seems a lot of thought and care was put into it. Manuel, the founder, also seems like a very nice person who truly cares about the app. All in all i think changing the app to a one time payment in the app store instead of subscription plans (or maybe a 2-3.50$ monthly plan) instead would be much more fair

First, the pricing you are seeing is not intentional. Premium has always been 4.99 in both dollars and euros since the day I launched it, and I never changed it because I want to keep the price as low as possible while still maintaining the platform. If you can let me know which country or region you’re in by emailing me at contact@locationscout.net, I will check immediately. Something is clearly wrong here and I want to fix it as fast as possible.

Regarding the comparison with Netflix or other big platforms: I completely understand the instinct, but as a solo developer working on a niche tool for more than 11 years, I simply cannot compete with billion-dollar companies that operate at massive scale and subsidize costs through ads, data, or large teams. What I can offer instead is something the big players never can: personal support, real conversations, and the chance for you to directly shape the future of the platform. If you write Netflix with a feature request, nothing happens. If you write me, it usually becomes reality.

About the one-time payment: I would actually love to offer this. The problem is that Locationscout is not a local app you download once. Every single request costs money on my side: servers, maps, weather data, search queries, content maintenance, images, and so much more. My working student and I have manually improved over 80,000 spot entries so far. A one time payment model only works if an app has no running cost or if the price is extremely high and the app is designed to be used as little as possible. I want the opposite. I want you to get as much value as possible every single day.

That said, there is absolutely no need to stay subscribed continuously. If you prefer, just keep using the free version and only activate Premium for a single month whenever you travel. It will cost you less than any printed guide, less than a local book, and it can easily save you many hours of research or even the cost of missing the best spots.

And regarding the trial: I understand your point. Three days is short. The reason is that many trial systems are designed in a way that gets abused heavily if they’re too long or users actually forget to try it. If you need more days, simply write me and I will give you more days for free because I want to be sure that you are happy with it.

Lastly, thank you for your kind words about the app itself. It means a lot to me. I built this alone over more than a decade, often late at night or on weekends, and your appreciation really motivates me. I just want Locationscout to be genuinely useful for you and for every photographer out there.

If you are open to it, please write me an email so I can investigate the incorrect pricing in your region. This shouldn’t be happening and I want to make sure it’s fixed.

It has been brilliant for planning trips to new locations, providing inspiration as well as practical details on getting the shot. Die App ist echt super um tolle Orte in deiner Umgebung zu finden, aber auch für den Urlaub sind viele Fotos in verschiedenen Ländern und Regionen dabei. Die Fotografen der Fotos geben auch Tipps wie und wann man die Fotos schießen kann und man bekommt auch Inspiration und neue Blickwinkel für eigene Fotos. Echt zu empfehlen wenn man coole Orte und Motive sucht!

I can’t express the joy this app has given me since it launched. I am always on the hunt for interesting spots to go play around with my camera and it was very hard to find good locations to go to without scouring very niche forums. This app has allowed me to plan during my week what locations I can check out on the weekend with such ease now. The developer has done an absolutely amazing job!

A general travel guide will rarely satisfy when you travel for the love of photography. LocationScout will take you by the hand - suggest where you should go for inspirational images, the best time of day and angle for your shot, when crowds might be an issue and even where you can park in many cases. Review images from contributors and submit your own. You can easily find other spots in the vicinity if things don’t work out.  Imitation and sharing are all part of one of the greatest and affordable hobbies. Manuel is there to support and guide you and welcomes ideas for improving his already amazing app.

Tolle Ideen wohin man für Fotoreisen oder auch nur Ausflüge fahren könnte. Man merkt dass die App mit sehr viel Sorgfalt für die Bedürfnisse von Fotografen gestaltet ist.
