I’ve loved using the search function to look up areas of significance to me but also just the local areas that I travel through. The filters are great too for enabling you to search via interests. Quite a few sites appear to be in the wrong place and even change. For instance Cray Wanderers football pitch is near where I live. The first time I saw it on the map it was described as Thamesmead FC. The second time I saw it on the map it was described as Erith FC…. The summary for the town I live in talks about interesting local history, like the oldest house in the town, but the same historical sites aren’t shown on the map. Category filtering is odd. You look at an area on the map, select a category like Battles and War. You then move the map and no new sites are shown. If you change the category to something else then change it back to Battles and War new sites appear. I selected Trafalgar Square in London and the Battles and War category and things like the Cabinet war rooms aren’t shown. I scrolled the map down to Downing Street, selected the Politics and Power category and 10 Downing Street isn’t shown. I changed the category to “Everything” and it still wasn’t shown. I centred the map back on where I live - scrolled the map to Downing Street again and now it’s shown. It could be something to do with the zoom level on the map, but all a bit odd. Update - great response from the Developer and looking forward to the update. **Developer response:** Thank you so much for your feedback and for trying out LocoPast. We’re really sorry that your experience hasn’t been as good as it could be. We’ve taken your feedback on board and have been working on an update to improve this experience. The new version has just been submitted to Apple for review, which typically means it should be available within the next 1-2 days. In the current version, every time you move the map, we automatically search for a new batch of historical results. In the new version, moving the map won’t automatically trigger a new search. Instead, you’ll have the option to search when you want to, and the results will build on what you’ve already seen rather than replacing the existing list. This means that historical sites and stories you’ve previously discovered won’t disappear. In an area like central London, there’s an incredible amount of rich history, so your zoom level can also affect which results are displayed. However, we’re hopeful that the new update will make the overall experience much more intuitive and enjoyable. Told me history of some places that I’ve lived in and wasn’t aware of. Great to find so much information on areas all over the world. At £4.99 this is an absolute bargain, a one off payment with no subscription fees. A fantastic app which means you can quickly look up the history of your surroundings in a couple of clicks, no more google searches. The audio facility to listen to the information as well as reading it is a great option. This app is a simple but very effective idea which has identified a gap in the market where those who are into local history are concerned. Seeing this app with no subscription and myself with a love of history it was a no brainer. It seems to pull all of its data from Wikipedia, but seeing it pictorially on a map, cracking idea.
