## What is Logica Coffee?

Logica Coffee is the free specialty brewing companion that learns from every cup you make — not generic tips, but coaching built from your own history. No ads, no paywalls, no subscriptions. Optional tips are the only way to support development.

New: scan a bag to see how it fits coffees you've loved, get a shared recipe's grind estimated for your grinder, and brew with the ORIGAMI Dripper and OXO Rapid Brewer.

YOUR PERSONAL COFFEE COACH
When you ask for help, your personal coach James reads your rating, technique, and beans — then suggests one clear next adjustment. Try a finer grind for sourness, adjust the ratio, or refine extraction time. This built-in coaching works offline. No Logica account, no Logica servers; optional sync uses your own iCloud.

YOUR GOLDEN CUP, MADE REPEATABLE
Pin a Reference Cup for a bean. After future rated brews, Logica compares the setup you recorded — and taste when available — with that golden cup, explains meaningful drift, and lets you plan one tiny correction for next time. The plan returns at brew setup; nothing changes without you.

ON-DEVICE BREW ANALYSIS
On supported devices with Apple Intelligence, ask James to "analyze this brew" and Apple's on-device model gives a tailored read of your logged cup, running on device. James's built-in offline coaching remains available everywhere, so no one misses out. On by default where supported; switch it off in Settings.

JAMES COFFEE SIGNAL
A clear sour → balanced → bitter read ties your coach card, insights, and taste tags together, so you always know which way to move.

GUIDED BREW TIMERS FOR EVERY METHOD
Step-by-step timing, water targets, and pour cues for V60, Hario Switch, AeroPress, Chemex, French Press, Espresso, Moka Pot, Turkish, Cold Brew, and more. Follow recognized methods such as Hoffmann-style V60, Kasuya 4:6, and Matt Winton’s Five Pour Method — or design your own step by step.

KNOW YOUR BEANS
• Scan the bag to auto-fill the basics — name, roaster, origin — and fine-tune the rest
• Estimated freshness windows help you brew while each bag is tasting its best
• Log tasting notes, star ratings, and structured taste tags — per bag
• After enough rated brews, see a calm, number-free read on how the bag landed for you
• Show weights in grams or in ounces & pounds — your choice

CUPPING / TASTING LAB
Run blind tastings for 2–6 coffees, score aroma, clarity, sweetness, body, aftertaste, balance, and preference, then reveal what won. Your cupping sessions stay in the same private coffee record and are included in backup and restore.

DIAL IN BETTER ESPRESSO
A guided dial-in session follows dose, yield and time across every pull. Logica spots the pattern and suggests next adjustment — or tells you to repeat unchanged or stop chasing grind. Mark a Reference Cup as your benchmark and dial future brews toward it.

SEE YOUR PROGRESS
Insights surface your best brews, rating trends, most-used methods, and consistency — turning your journal into real, actionable feedback. Track your cost per cup, plus caffeine estimates in weekly context with optional Apple Health logging.

SHARE ANY RECIPE
Send a custom recipe with one link or QR code. Anyone with Logica can import it in a tap and brew it immediately.

APPLE WATCH + LOCK SCREEN
A full Watch app with synced timer and haptic pour cues. On iPad, side-by-side workspaces keep the brew, history, and coach in view. Live Activity follows your brew on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island — current phase, elapsed time, next pour — without opening the app. A Home Screen widget keeps your favourite recipe a glance away.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account. No tracking. No Logica servers. No ads. No paywalls. No subscriptions. Your data stays on your device and syncs only through your own iCloud. Full backup and restore — plus portable JSON export — mean you're never locked in.

Start with one recipe, one bag, or one espresso shot. Logica grows into your private brewing notebook as you brew.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2.8 — 2026-08-19

안녕하세요!

Logica Coffee is now available in Korean.

This release also makes finishing a brew more reliable, including handoff from Apple Watch; keeps the bean-detail footer visually continuous with the page; and makes Machine Help’s coffee guidance work for equipment beyond espresso.

Still free: no ads, accounts, paywalls, or subscriptions. No tracking or Logica servers; your data stays on your device and, if you choose, in your own iCloud. Optional tips support future updates.

### 1.2.7 — 2026-08-11

DIAL-IN: KNOW WHEN TO STOP
Log an espresso attempt and Logica now gives a clearer verdict: stop here, brew it again unchanged, or make one more adjustment. After repeated attempts that do not converge, it can say when grind is probably not the lever and point you to other variables. Tap Show why to see the evidence behind the call.

FIXED: CUSTOM GRINDER SETUP
The Adjust sheet scrolls again. If you use a Custom grinder, its minimum, maximum and step fields — plus filter and water pickers — are reachable at every text size.

ALSO FIXED
• A crash that could affect Japanese and Simplified Chinese.
• A Watch-finished brew writing a second journal entry and deducting stock twice.
• Brew summaries showing planned time instead of actual elapsed time.
• Widget weight units, freshness context, plural forms, tap targets and large-text layouts.

Still free: no ads, accounts, paywalls, or subscriptions. No tracking or Logica servers; your data stays on your device and, if you choose, in your own iCloud. Optional tips support future updates.

### 1.2.6 — 2026-08-08

This update covers everything since the last version on the App Store — the cooling-cup notes we finished earlier this year, plus new machine help, a live widget, and a redesigned Watch.

THE CUP CHANGES
A cup rarely tastes the same hot as it does twenty minutes later. Now you can write that down. Open any saved journal entry and add an observation whenever you notice something — hot, warm or cool: a rating for that sip alone, up to six descriptors, a line in your own words, and the drink's temperature if you have a thermometer. Everything is optional and there is no sequence to complete. These notes stay exactly as you wrote them — your overall rating is untouched, and cooling observations are never averaged into it or folded into coaching. They are a record, not a verdict.

MACHINE HELP
A new guided troubleshooter for espresso machines, in Gear & Maintenance — you don't need anything saved to use it. Pick your machine, then rule out anything that needs attention right now — smoke, shock, a burning smell — before working through what changed and what you can actually see or hear. It ends on the safest next step. Every path is fixed and deterministic: no guessing, no invented diagnosis.

BEAN FRESHNESS, ON YOUR HOME SCREEN (iOS 17 or later)
The widget now shows a living bag instead of a fixed recipe: the freshness stage, the days left in it where that stage still has a countdown, and how much is in the bag — updating on its own as the bag ages. Leave it unconfigured and it follows whatever bag you're brewing with, or pin a specific bag from Edit Widget. Logica's Home Screen widget has always required iOS 17 — and the app's own bean library tracks the same freshness for everyone, on every iPhone it supports.

THE WATCH APP, REBUILT
Brew from your wrist while your phone stays in your pocket. Your brews wait in a queue you turn through with the Digital Crown — choose one, start it, and follow it on your watch: where you are in the brew, how much water to pour and how fast, and the time left in the stage. Pause, skip ahead, and rate the cup when it's done. The whole app has been redrawn, it now fits every watch size properly, and the controls are more dependable.

COACH READS YOUR CUPS
James — the coffee coach built into the app — reads the brews you've rated and tagged, and tells you what to change once there are enough of them to be sure. Open Coach and the top of the page is about your own coffee: a line on how your recent cups have been tasting, and under it the field where you can ask him anything yourself. Further down come the adjustment worth making next, the reading of your taste it came from, and a tip for the day.

THE FINER DETAILS
Adjusting a brew's recipe or stages got sturdier — Cancel, Reset, and Apply Changes behave predictably no matter your text size. Cup Changes and the rest of your journal sync more safely through simultaneous edits and imports. And a broad accessibility pass raised contrast to WCAG AA, fixed touch targets that looked tappable but weren't, and let key screens — brewing, the timer, dial-in, the journal, and Coach — reflow cleanly at the largest text sizes.

Still free: no ads, accounts, paywalls, or subscriptions. No tracking or Logica servers — your data stays on your device and, if you choose, in your own iCloud. Optional tips help support future updates.

### 1.2.4 — 2026-08-05

Version 1.2.4 brings a more considered way to set up a brew, care for your coffee, and learn from every cup.

CONFIGURE, RECAST
Choose a visual brew identity, then set your method and recipe in one clear entry point. Adjustments, dial-in and logging now sit in calm, purposeful groups. When useful, a compact strip keeps your previous dose and ratio close by; James’s advice appears directly on the page, not in a separate panel. On iPad, the new layout makes better use of the extra room.

COFFEE, WITH CONTEXT
Native picker sheets make coffee, grinder, water and filter choices feel at home on iPhone. Find beans faster with search, photos, freshness and remaining-coffee details.

BREW WITH WHAT YOU HAVE
Brew Today now avoids a tracked filter that is out of stock or a tracked bag that is too low, and offers an alternative instead. Reusable filters and methods without a filter never consume stock. AeroPress paper filters are now handled as one unified type.

MORE WAYS TO BREW
ORIGAMI and OXO methods and recipes join the collection. Shared recipes now estimate the sender’s grind on the recipient’s grinder, with a clear reminder that taste is personal.

COFFEE ON HAND
Bag scanning now supports smaller sample and cupping bags. Before you brew, a clear warning helps prevent starting with too little coffee; adjust the dose and Logica keeps the ratio intact.

THE FINER DETAILS
We corrected two brew temperatures, refined shared cup-card typography, made onboarding more forgiving, strengthened recovery from damaged sync data, and improved large-text reflow across key screens.

Still free: no ads, accounts, paywalls, or subscriptions. No tracking or Logica servers—your data stays on your device and, if you choose, in your own iCloud. Optional tips help support future updates.

### 1.2.2 — 2026-07-25

Version 1.2.2

GEAR THAT TELLS YOU THE TRUTH
A home for your gear, with maintenance reminders based on how much you’ve actually brewed and how long it’s been — not a calendar guessing at you. Descale, grinder deep-clean, water filter, gasket checks, each timed to real use.

LESS WASTE AT THE GRINDER
Switching beans costs a few grams of purge. Log it if you want the real number — entirely optional, and it stays out of your way if you don’t.

ALSO IN THIS UPDATE
Roaster Memory now counts only rated brews, so the read is honest. Tasting Lab refinements, a redesigned recipe-sharing and Share-Cup export, number formatting that matches your region, and reliability work throughout.

Still free: no ads, accounts, paywalls, or subscriptions. No tracking or Logica servers; optional sync uses your own iCloud. Optional tips support development.
