### 4/5 — Excited to see this app develop

*2026-08-15*

Been a big fan of the paper guides for years, this app is a little rough around the edges but excited to see it get better over time.

### 3/5 — Good, but needs more functionality

*2026-07-25*

I had high hopes and like the look and feel, but there is no search option for adding sights, etc. I’m planning a few days in London and can add the ‘recommended’ sights, but it won’t let me search for things I know I want to see. I spent 10 minutes trying to find a way to add St Paul’s Cathedral to my itinerary, but gave up. Hopefully this will come in time.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the thoughtful feedback. It is essential to hear from travelers like you as we continue to shape this early version of the app. Our team is dedicated to improving your experience, so stay tuned as we roll out new updates to address your concerns.

### 5/5 — Great resource

*2026-04-24*

Full of inspiration and helpful information. Will be very useful for trip planning and creating itineraries.

### 5/5 — Love it so far…

*2026-04-21*

Huge potential, have been waiting a while for this App. Looking forward to new destinations being added!

### 3/5 — Article Collection

*2026-04-01*

I very much enjoy Lonely Planet’s guidebooks. I’ve been buying physical and digital copies for years. I was hoping that instead of buying a new copy for each trip, this app would allow me to view the same content that’s in their books, but in a streamlined app experience. Unfortunately, my expectations have not been met. Instead of the book level of depth and ease, this app is largely a consolidation of Lonely Planet’s articles. Therefore, the content is not as in depth and is more useful for daydreaming about traveling than actually planning for it.

**Developer response:** Thank you for being such a long-time Lonely Planet traveler. It really means a lot to us, and it’s especially valuable to hear from travelers like you as we continue shaping the app.

You’re right that the app today includes a mix of articles and lighter content, and we’re actively working toward delivering the deeper, guidebook-level experience you’re expecting. Full destination guides with the depth and structure you may be looking for are available for select destinations today, and we’re expanding that coverage regularly.

We’re continuing to improve the experience with frequent updates. If there’s a specific destination you were looking for, please let us know at appsupport@lonelyplanet.com. It helps us prioritize what to build next.

### 5/5 — Excited to start planning

*2026-03-12*

Happy to see Lonely Planet has an app now! It’s got me excited to plan my next trip. Way easier to organize and build out my itinerary within the app than in a doc like I normally do!

### 5/5 — Great for on-the-go

*2026-03-10*

Excited to have my trusted LP recs in an app! Have been using the app this week while traveling for inspiration and ideas and it’s been so helpful. Can’t wait to see what new destinations they will release and will definitely use the itinerary feature to plan my next trip.

### 5/5 — Trusted travel guides now on my phone!

*2026-03-03*

Lonely Planet guides have been trusted in my family for many years so it’s very exciting to have the same high quality content available at my fingertips. I’ve already started building itineraries for my upcoming trips, and I’m so looking forward to using the interactive maps while on the ground!

### 5/5 — fun and practical

*2026-03-03*

such a fun app, but also really practical. appreciate how human it feels. using it to plan an upcoming london/paris trip - seamless so far! excited to see more recs come through over time.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — A lot more work to do

*2026-08-25*

The app needs a lot of work. It’s not intuitive to use. I’ve tried to create an itinerary for a two month trip I’m planning through Europe next year. I created the trip. It’s limited to 30 days. I added one city. There is no obvious way to add another city. Unless there are reports of significant updates, I won’t be using this app again. It looks pretty, but if I’m stuck with one city it’s useless.

### 1/5 — Average at best

*2026-08-07*

Articles on an app…… groundbreaking.

### 1/5 — Just bad - use Wanderlog

*2026-08-02*

Functionality far too slow, pictures don’t load, not linked with Google Maps, basic AI requests don’t pull through e.g. give me things to do in Seoul

I would use Wanderlog instead

### 1/5 — Too hard to add an itinerary

*2026-07-18*

Just not worth the effort, poorly designed and not intuitive.

**Developer response:** Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts with us. This early feedback helps us shape the future of this app and improve your experience. Stay tuned as we expand functionality, make improvements and roll out updates.

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2026-06-28*

Nothing here that you can’t find online for free. Bring back the original format guides with strategic and logistic info about transport options and costs.

**Developer response:** Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts with us. It is essential to hear from travelers like you as we continue to shape this early version of the app. Our team is dedicated to improving your experience, so stay tuned as we roll out new updates to address your concerns.

### 2/5 — Horrible Access

*2026-08-20*

Tried to register but app page to enter code expired before I could retrieve it from junk. Every login required the gad awful captcha - who thinks of this. Any phone with biometrics should not require 2FA /captcha!

### 2/5 — Hopefully it will quickly make a travel planning fun and easy

*2026-05-30*

Love Lonely Planet guides, I understand this is a new app but disappointed to type in a location and have 4 suggestions show with no way to easily search all the dots on the map view.

Definitely needs work to compete with other similar sites. Hopefully will be able to.

### 2/5 — Sign-up didn’t work

*2026-05-02*

I tried to sign up by creating a password, and my attempt was refused. Please work out bugs….

**Developer response:** Sorry you’re having trouble accessing your account. We’re continuously improving the login experience and appreciate your patience as we refine the app. Please reach out to appsupport@lonelyplanet.com and we’ll get back to you quickly with a way to resolve.

### 2/5 — Brutal Mistakes

*2026-03-08*

I shudder to think how much money was burned developing this app which, in most ways, is inferior to the old Lonely Planet app. Disappointing.

**Developer response:** Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts with us. Developing this app has been a really exciting process for our team with this early version just being the beginning. We are dedicated to improving your experience and will be continuing to expand functionality over time. Stay tuned as we find new ways to inspire and guide travelers like you.

### 3/5 — Limited to what they want to show you.

*2026-08-01*

After about five minutes of planning a trip you will realize that you can only add suggestions that the app provides. You can’t add your own stops for a visit to say Ireland. What they do provide is healthy descriptions of what they want to offer. But plain and simple there is no way to add anything but the provided content.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Lonely Planet on your phone!

*2026-08-09*

I’ve traveled with Lonely Planet guidebooks for over 20 years and see tons of potential in the new app. It proved indispensable recently in Taos — got to the Pueblo early for the day’s first tour! I like how it’s the same on-the-ground, expert advice as the books but with a dose of tech like AI chat and geolocation. Plus, I look forward to all the hours of armchair traveling, learning about the world instead of doomscrolling.

### 5/5 — Trusted recommendations, beautiful presentation

*2026-08-04*

I’ve traveled with Lonely Planet for a long time and very much enjoying the app to make recommendations and share new insights about places. Enjoying the great photography too

### 5/5 — Loving the new update

*2026-07-24*

I’ve been really enjoying the new Lonely Planet app. It makes finding reliable recommendations super easy. I love that I don’t have to wait through endless search results. The guides are really well curated practical and genuinely useful when planning for a trip or exploring some more new.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the 5 stars! We’re thrilled our new app is improving your travels. Our local writers work hard to make sure recommendations feel authentic and worth your time. We’re continuing to add new features and destinations regularly and are grateful you've joined us on this journey.

### 5/5 — THANK YOU

*2026-07-18*

THANK YOU LONELY PLANET FOR CREATING THIS APP!! I’ve loved Lonely Planet guide books for years, and can always trust that I will get amazing recommendations. However, it would be a huge investment to get physical copies of all books related to your destination (i.e. Japan). This app is the perfect solution, and I am so excited that I’ll get to have all guides with me during my travels. I would 100% pay a monthly membership fee to have access to all of Lonely Planet’s content.

As a side note, the app design is beautiful. Colors, typography, photography, all perfect!

### 5/5 — Great travel advice!!

*2026-06-25*

This was a great app for my trip.

### 5/5 — Looks beautiful

*2026-06-25*

So much bad looking travel advice out there, I love the articles and the design and photography on this app

### 5/5 — Turns daydreaming into an actual plan

*2026-06-20*

Been using LP's books for years and figured the app would just be a glorified PDF. Nope. The guides actually have a point of view, so I'm not stuck scrolling through 40 things to do, restaurants, and accommodations that all look the same. And the advice is actionable too: I go from "oh that looks cool" to a day-by-day itinerary.

The AI guide thing won me over too. Asked it for a half-day near my hotel with good coffee and not much walking, and it gave me a real plan, not generic junk. You can tell it's pulling from the actual guides, and the recommendations come from real people. Pretty much the only travel app I use for planning and while I'm on the trip, not just dreaming about one.

### 5/5 — Finally a Travel Super App

*2026-06-16*

I’ve long been a fan of Lonely Planet since my first international trip post college. Really pleased to see handy versions of the guides and travel intel in a digital, portable format. Really strong for inspiration and planning with solid recs for itineraries… looking forward to see how they build on this!

### 5/5 — Loved using this during trips!

*2026-06-10*

I always trust recs from lonely planet, especially because I know they come from real travelers. I used the app for a quick check on places to see & where to eat during my trip to New Zealand and loved having everything in one place. The itinerary builder is great too, excited to keep coming back to plan future trips & get travel inspo.

### 5/5 — Cuts thru the noise

*2026-04-24*

I get overwhelmed by googling for travel recs so have trusted Lonely Planet guides to tell me what to do/see on trips. Glad they have an app now because I don’t want to lug around a book! Can tell this is new with more stuff to build out but enjoying poking around and seeing what they suggest for the destinations on there right now.
