### 2/5 — So discouraging

*2023-04-15*

My daughter turns away in frustration almost every time because she is unable to unlock the songs. She plays the chords over and over and the app only seems to “hear” about one out of twenty chords strummed, no matter how clearly they are played. Her father is a professional musician and has the same problem.

### 4/5 — Nicely designed but…

*2023-03-18*

Nicely designed but there are no names for each section after you first open it and the lessons are too slow and complicated for a small child absolute beginner. They want to get straight in and play not learn all the names of the parts of the guitar etc. It worked nicely with me sat there playing along to the songs and showing him how to do it (I.e. teaching him myself) - but just letting him intuitively get along with the app on his own and learn wouldn’t work. - he is only 4 though - so maybe if he was 8 he would have the discipline to sit and watch each lesson before playing anything. Basically I feel there should be a very simple game for absolute beginners to feel like they have got somewhere and inspire them - so it feels like a fun game - rather than trying to teach them every technical detail from the outset.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for the review. We're currently working on improving the experience. If you have further suggestions, please write to us at support@loogguitars.com

### 4/5 — Pretty good

*2023-01-23, version 3.7.1*

Pretty good for beginners and very easy to learn

### 3/5 — Manual tuner kind of broken

*2022-12-21, version 3.7.1*

The strings vs the pegs are in reversed order. So when trying to tune the third string it’s tuning to the first string’s note and vice versa

### 2/5 — So disappointing…

*2022-10-09, version 3.6.1*

Got a Loog guitar for daughter for her sixth birthday. I really wish I had investigated the app before buying the guitar. The guitar is nice and a great tool for someone with tiny hands to get started on a challenging instrument. I wish the folks at Loog had spent a tenth the amount of time they spent making the app cute thinking about how to teach guitar. There’s absolutely no structure or path to follow. How is anyone supposed to know what to do first or what order to tackle things? The songs and games are far too complex to get started on. But the lessons have no useful order. Like, lesson one is basics of the guitar parts, then there are literally three separate lessons on how to restring a guitar as if you’re going to be thinking about restringing a guitar right after you bought it or my 6 year old daughter would even do this herself. Then, it’s literally every chord in alphabetical order. Really? Why not teach a few chords from the same key then a song using those chords. Like, seriously. Teach C-Am-G, then go learn every Taylor Swift song. If I wasn’t already a guitar player, my daughter and I would both be completely lost.

But the monsters are cute, so there’s that.

### 2/5 — Marginal guitar and terrible app

*2022-08-14, version 3.6.1*

I play guitar so I didn’t except much from this low end guitar for my young kids but that’s what it is. A cheap guitar that never stays in tune. But the app is even worse. Terrible to navigate. Nothing has titles so you have to jump around to figure what stuff is and if you don’t do it every day you forget where everything is. It does a poor job of recognizing notes and doesn’t let you refresh screen. You have to go back out of the lesson and back In and start over. Just gets my 7yo and me frustrated

### 4/5 — It’s good!

*2022-06-23, version 3.6.1*

This app is great! I learned so many songs that I love and memorized all of the notes! I made a very pretty beautiful song and everyone I know loves it. But the app kicks u out for like no reason at all. Sometimes it can be very annoying. But other than that it’s a great app. U should get it if u are okay with the app kicking u out sometimes.

### 4/5 — Great learning tool

*2022-05-22, version 3.6*

Demystifies a lot of the basics but wish that there was a different way to access the course

### 3/5 — Could be great, but lots of usability issues

*2022-04-30, version 3.5.1*

From first sight this app could be great but when using it, you also see that this app is sprinkled with usability issues

* when playing a song for the first time, the flow suggests (forces) to tune the guitar (the llay button is replaced by a tune button.
  * having to tune buttons on screen is confusing
  * It doesn’t seem there’s a way to skip the tuning step
  * When the guitar is tuned, the monster says we’re eady to play the song, but there’s nothing that’s actionable to do so
*. Ended up quitting the sing and starting it again to have the play button.
* Opening tutorial while tuning breaks the flow (starts again from the beginning, plays back the first chord, but the tuner is not reset and still shows and exects the previous chord selected before opening the tutorial)

* follow the melody is not working. it fails quickly (although I’m pretty sure I follow the game. Ie it can fail at the second step!) this makes the game pretty useless and frustrating (even to think that such a feature was added to the app)

* the Magic Mirror doesn’t quite work. It lags and has trouble detecting the guitar. When working, it’s not that a magic experience.

And counting… (this list comes from a total of 30 minutes of use)

This app could be great. The product is well designed and the guitar, cards etc is just an example of how a product should be.

But the app experience is tarnished by stupid simple, noob bugs, that makes think this app isn’t properly tested before shipped, which in turn questions the professionalism of the developer.

### 5/5 — Best game ever

*2022-03-31, version 3.5.1*

I learn guitar strings and also watch videos of people playing it so I can learn how to play it and it always helps me with the educational stuff thank you whoever made this!

### 5/5 — LOOG 3 String

*2022-03-13, version 3.5*

Yay!

### 2/5 — Games don’t work

*2022-02-26, version 3.5*

The concept is great. Love the idea of the games. But they don’t work well and lead to frustration, which doesn’t make her want to play. Defeats the point of the app.

### 5/5 — Great app best I could find ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

*2022-02-24, version 3.5*

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — This app broke my guitar

*2023-01-08, version 3.7.1*

Devil app

### 1/5 — Terrible!

*2022-12-29, version 3.7.1*

It’s the worst app ever!It keeps telling me to tighten the 3rd string and every time I do,it say’s to loosen it!!!If I read those words again I’m going to SCREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

### 1/5 — Uh-oh

*2022-12-21, version 3.7.1*

The tuner is not good at all. The follow the melody game does not respond to my guitar. The magic mirror thinks my guitar is a three string while it clearly is a six string. I don’t know what to do about this. Also the cord thing does not work, it does not respond to when I hit the guitar strings. I’ll need to go learn from my uncle instead of this.

### 1/5 — Tuner doesn’t work

*2022-03-15, version 3.5*

The tuner rarely ever recognizes the correct string. The guitar is cool and well made for a toddler guitar. App is a great idea but crashes a lot and it does not pick up sounds accurately. Considering the app is the main way to learn on this 3 string guitar it sadly makes the guitar and app essentially worthless. Please fix this as it could be wonderful!

### 1/5 — Bad

*2022-01-16, version 3.5*

We bought this guitar for our 6 year old and thought it would be a great way to learn guitar. Not so much and this app certainly doesn’t help. We obviously don’t know how to play guitar, we want to learn. The pictures of the chords are confusing. Do we play just one string with the pick or all three together to make the chord? They never say. Then on Twinkle Twinkle they want you to put your finger way up by the tuning picks. What? So then you select the game to learn a song. Play one note, if you pass, they teach you two notes like the game Simon. However when you get to the third note when you have to move your fingers it only gives you like 2 seconds or you fail and have to start over. Who learns that quickly? Isn’t the point to learn? It’s like a really bad video game and the app also keeps shutting down. Not impressed at all. The guitar is cute but if you can’t learn thru the app, it’s nothing more than a cute guitar and I could’ve bought one at Walmart for $20. I don’t recommend this product or the app to anyone. Thumbs down.

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2022-01-10, version 3.5*

This is one of the worst learning apps I’ve ever used. I’ve given it a go a number of times, but everything is so poorly thought out. They spent so much time working on making it look cute, and very little time thinking about how the learning actually functions within the app. You basically have to already have all the chords and notes memorized to use any of the functions that teach you chords and notes. I’m not just a clueless learning who isn’t willing to put in the time. I have a fairly solid ability with ukulele learned through an app. This one just makes no sense and puts cuteness before usability.

### 1/5 — Worthless

*2022-01-01, version 3.5*

My 8 year was super excited to play with this. After watching the video on how to tune and 10 excoriating minutes I took over trying to help. The app seemed to be only intermittently registering a note and i got different feedback based on which setting I was in (auto and manual). Auto consistent misidentified the string being tuned and gave different instructions than manual. Santa got him this and left a note telling him to practice. I’m not sure what’s worse, suffering through this misery or coming up with a cover story for how we returned it.

### 1/5 — Tuner does not work

*2022-01-01, version 3.4.4*

It is impossible to tune the guitar. It says that the same string is too low and too high at the same time. Since the app cannot get to accept our guitar’s sound, we cannot get any chord accepted and that means we cannot play one single song. The guitar is nice but the app simply doesn’t work as intended. I agree with other reviewers that it needs to allow for a little bit of forgiveness. I have spent more than an hour trying to tune the guitar but as I do, the system is very inconsistent. The same string that it has told me to tighten and tighten and tighten, it then asks me to loosen up ten times over. It makes no sense.

### 1/5 — This app needs to ask for permission for microphone

*2021-12-25, version 3.4.4*

This app is completely worthless because it will not ask for permission to use the microphone from my iPad. Please fix ASAP.

### 1/5 — Buggy; needs no fail mode

*2021-11-13, version 3.4.2*

Bugs throughout. Needs a no fail mode in the games. Each one dead ends at the first mistake preventing kids from learning.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app great product for my kids

*2023-10-18*

Great app great product for my kids. Highly recommend to get your children playing music

### 5/5 — Great music product!

*2023-01-14, version 3.7.1*

I got this for my four year old for Christmas. She doesn’t seem to care about it but I’m having fun learning chords and the app does a great job of helping tune, teach chords, and is very colorful and cute as well. My daughter likes piano and violin so maybe I went a little overboard with a guitar… maybe my other child will want to learn until then I will

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review! Glad to know you're enjoying it :)

### 5/5 — 5 Stars

*2023-01-07, version 3.7.1*

Awesome app and even better guitar.

### 5/5 — It’s great but I wish it was tuned when I got it.

*2023-01-02, version 3.7.1*

I got a yellow electric guitar and it never sounds right but its great and would recommend it for anyone who wants to learn guitar.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much! If you're still facing issues tuning your guitar, please email us at support@loogguitars.com and we'll help you out.

### 5/5 — Awesome For Beginners

*2023-01-02, version 3.7.1*

Loog isn’t a guitar; Loog is a guitar-learning ecosystem. Kids set up a game profile, learn basics, visit “chord school” videos, play their first/next song that adds a chord or two, and apply the reward points in funny ways. Brilliant design.

**Developer response:** Couldn't have said it better ourselves! Thanks so much for your review. Glad to hear about your experience :)

### 5/5 — Wonderful!

*2022-12-28, version 3.7.1*

### 5/5 — I Love my guitar!!!

*2022-11-25, version 3.7*

I am 65, and have been trying to learn guitar for years. Every time I would have to start from the very beginning, do to chronic pain and anxiety.

There are songs that come to me, but I couldn’t practice with an instrument; because I was always trying to learn how to play.

I love my little pink guitar, I can learn the chords faster, and I can start playing faster as well!!

I just bought one for my sister; I can’t wait to see how she likes it!

**Developer response:** Thank you SO much for this lovely review!! It makes us very happy to know that you're enjoying it :)

### 5/5 — Super fun and educational!
