Now it is back online but I like L4C better, except for the map not being able to pan in direction of travel. If the paid version has it, I will not hesitate to buy it, just for that feature. ### 4/5 — So far, very good *2017-03-07, version 2.3.8* I'm test driving this on as it had a lite (free) version to tryout before purchasing it. With the new official geocaching app by GroundSpeak, I needed to find a app more like the original geocaching app which will be disabled very soon. So far I like what I see, short learning curve also. My only complaint is that I often go caching with non-premium members, my wife in particular. And although in the list view it clearly shows premium only caches, on the map view you can't tell the difference. It would be nice to set a filter to remove those when I'm in such a situation. It seems to work quite well most of the time, and has a polished interface. It would be nice to download more than 3 caches information in 24 hours, but I think that is one of ground speak's stupid stipulations. I only have two real complaints when using the app; first, it's a little difficult to figure out how to log the first time; and second, it's not really obvious how ypu begin navigation. Overall: great full featured app, especially for a lite app. I love it! ### 3/5 — Basics ok *2016-04-06, version 2.3.2* Setup is a bit of a pain as is trying to find caches at a different location until you get used to UI. If you follow the HTML links to get more detail on caches don't expect to get back to the app. The banner advert overlays this so you need to kill the app and reload. ### 2/5 — Lot of potential but basically unusable *2016-04-02, version 2.3.2* Seems to work well enough for searching for caches, but can't exit the web browser when viewing cache details, which renders the app pretty useless to me. ### 3/5 — Adds block navigation bar. *2016-03-28, version 2.3.2* I would give this app a higher rating if the add bar wasnt in the way to use the navigation to from web pages for finds. When you open web page in the app for a cache you cant go back to the app without a force quit and reopen due to the advertisement bar in the way. ### 4/5 — It's ok for free *2015-08-21, version 2.1.7* I don't find it the most intuitive, but I use the free version and with it I have found many caches when all I had was my iPhone, so it does the job. ### 3/5 — Potentially a good app BUT *2015-06-01, version 2.1.4* Downloaded ok and takes a fair amount of fiddling around to setup as you want. The Lite version restricts you to 3 downloads every 24 hours. By upgrading to the Pro version it makes no difference to the number of downloads unless you pay yet more money. Does not seem to be much difference between the Lite or Pro version. ### 4/5 — Works ok *2014-09-05, version 2.1.1* This app is useful to get Gps coordinates for caches. I find it useful to find caches when traveling and have a wifi connection on my iPad. I'll often take a screen shots of potential finds to refer to later and input the coordinates to my hand held GPS. would be far better if the GPS of the iPad could be used. ### 4/5 — Brilliant caching app *2014-05-11, version 2.0.2* This app is easy to read, which means when out caching details can be easily found. The changes of colour detail makes it even better. I found it a little difficult to use at first but it does come easier with use. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — More Greed *2019-06-25, version 4.0.3* Now you can’t load anything over a 1.5 star rating. These companies, especially groundspeak are getting out of control with greed, from once started as a nice free activity. ### 1/5 — What a load of junk *2019-06-23, version 4.0.3* Seriously used to work great but now turned into a headache to even try and use. Never have I had to re-authorize my geocaching so much for it to not work at all even after I do. Its frustrating when you are somewhere and nothing works and keeps telling you to authorize and then nothing happens and does not want to search for nearby caches. Not everyone has a new phone for the official app or trust me this one would never be used. Not like its working anyways and has not in ages. However the app did not displayed any geocaches. Very disappointing. ### 1/5 — Don't bother... *2016-06-06, version 2.3.5* I have a cache in a cemetery less than 500 feet to the east of my house... This app was trying to lead me north into the middle of a field of wheat. At one point it said I was 443 feet from the cache, then suddenly after taking only two steps, I was 697 feet from the cache. Secondly it's not straight forward to use, the only instructions you get are to sign in to a geocaching site and that's it. I tried to search for geocache and nothing happened. No app does all what Geosphere offered, but after trying them all I think the pro version of this app is the best. The lite version will get you started but to appreciate it you need the full version The interface takes a little getting used to, but it has a nice display that is focused on the maps. The color scheme is far better than some of its competitors. I love the past few logs as smileys in the pop-up, along with the options to log or read details right below. Great for getting in and out of the app quickly, getting at-a-glance information and get back to the good stuff, THE OUTDOORS! I have only been tooling around for a day or so, and haven't found an option for map auto-orientation, but the plethora of other tools built in to this bad boy more than make up for it. The Geocaching app only allows the use of the iPhone iOS maps which don't show trails or other geographical references. This has been a much more helpful App to use.
