### 3/5 — why there are no lists option in the app??

*2026-07-29, version 2026.07.00*

The book lists I create and can access on the website aren’t available in the app, which is quite inconvenient. It would be great to have this functionality available across both platforms

### 3/5 — logging out/not recognizing login

*2026-01-13, version 2025.12.00*

i am forcibly logged out of the app periodically. each time this happens it takes about a day for the app to recognize my "credentials" which have not changed. please stop

### 2/5 — Search function is horrendous

*2025-10-28, version 2025.10.01*

Good luck finding what you’re looking for, unless it is minutely specific. Can’t even pull up a list of options for a specific author. At least the librarians aren’t out of a job!

### 3/5 — App update not so fab

*2025-10-25, version 2025.10.01*

The app had a nicer , more visually pleasing menu/interface before the update 1 month ago (mostly under “account” feature). Since the update I frequently have to log back in. Otherwise it works fine.

### 2/5 — Where did this UX come from

*2025-09-12, version 2025.08.01*

I opened up an updated version of the app and all I could think was “What the heck is this?” The app has all the clunkiness and clutter of the version in the library. The typeface is small. At least with the full desktop version you can get Tessa. This is … something.

### 2/5 — Please Fix Your App

*2024-12-12*

It works but is extremely outdated and the UX is almost a deterrent.

Example: if you type into the search box, the keyboard doesn’t go away unless you delete what you typed…

### 2/5 — Please add Landscape support

*2024-09-24, version 1.0.14*

For all of us that us this app on a tablet, having it limited to portrait orientation is clunky. Landscape orientation would be much more useful, so please add it.

The LA County Library app supports landscape mode, as do other smaller municipal systems.

### 2/5 — Not competitive

*2024-09-12, version 1.0.14*

Why does the LAPL app still feel like it’s from iOS 7 and cobbled together with third-party interface elements? Why doesn’t it support longstanding iOS features, like notifications and Wallet?

I just downloaded LA County’s library app, and I’m stunned. It is *vastly* superior to LAPL’s. It supports modern features like Apple Wallet for the library card; notifications for holds, due items, events, and room reservations; and the interface feels modern/current and uses current, standard iOS interface elements.

I don’t expect a library app to offer features on the bleeding edge of tech, like an AI chatbot librarian or anything (though that would be really nice), but it should at least be keeping up with relevant features that the OS has offered within the past couple of years. If LA County can do it, LAPL can do it too. Come on.

### 3/5 — Love the library but not this app

*2024-09-10, version 1.0.14*

LA Public Library is one of a kind, but the functionality of this problematic. I can’t change the status of holds or borrowed books from the app. It tells me I’ve changed the status but nothing changes. Feeling helpless

### 3/5 — Slow loading

*2024-05-27, version 1.0.14*

Not sure if I’m the only one having this issue, but the app takes quite some time to load, especially when it comes to My Account.

### 3/5 — Bug

*2024-04-05, version 1.0.14*

Noticed that when I go to view my records to check on what I have checked out it only shows twenty items checked out. But I know this is wrong because I have more than twenty items checked out. When I check my account through the website it shows the correct amount of items checked out which I thirty

### 3/5 — Apple Wallet and search

*2023-09-15*

Please add support for Apple Wallet for the user’s library card. If possible, please include the ability to have the card in Apple Wallet automatically pop up as a suggestion on the Lock Screen when the user gets close to library branches. For an example of this, look at the Starbucks app.

Also, the search results don’t match those on the website. Searching for a term on the website that brings up over 3,900 results when filtered to one branch receives an error of “No Results” in the app for the same search term and the same filter for the same branch.

### 3/5 — Good intention but buggy

*2022-10-01, version 1.0.11*

Simple search often glitches.

### 3/5 — Love the app , however ,

*2022-09-18, version 1.0.10*

I didn’t have an issue with the app up until recently , it will not allow me to place any books on hold . It will not even let me select a location of where to pick up. Hopefully they can fix this soon .

### 1/5 — Devs Ruined App

*2025-09-29, version 2025.08.01*

Instead of optimizing the ‘events’ sections to be more fluid, you guys replaced it with the LAPL website… Please undo that; some of us like the option of adding events to our iOS Calendar. Apps shouldn’t rely on a webpage layout…

Find a developer who knows how to optimize apps for iOS 26.

### 1/5 — App is broken

*2025-09-20, version 2025.08.01*

I’m having the same experience as SurlyGrrrl (cannot log in my account) and tonight the app cannot perform a search. Thank goodness you can still use a browser to access the site.

### 1/5 — BAD App

*2025-07-31, version 1.0.14*

Seriously fix the app when you can’t see your holds or books on loan.

### 1/5 — Great library, awful app

*2025-07-21, version 1.0.14*

This app rarely works: it's very glitchy. It times out before I can access my account, the OPAC is inaccurate, and the branch locator freezes. I wish LAPL would dump Boopsie for a better vendor.

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2025-04-10, version 1.0.14*

I don’t think they’ve spent any money to maintain this app. It hasn’t worked since the beginning of the year.

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2025-03-26, version 1.0.14*

I had to delete the LAPL app today because it was just a blank screen, despite having used it two days ago. I went to the App Store to reinstall & now it looks completely different. The UI is completely different & when I try to add my card I repeatedly receive one of two errors: “HTTP error” or “invalid credentials.” My card number is the same one it’s been for at least three years & my PIN hasn’t changed in 10 years. What happened to the other LAPL app??

### 1/5 — Awful outdated app

*2024-10-15, version 1.0.14*

Holds and Loans never load without timing out. Very outdated UI/UX. You’re better off just going to LAPL website via Safari.

Its actually quite surprising that a world leading public library system has such an awful app. LAPL is the gold standard amongst public systems, and the app doesn’t match this level of service / reputation.

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2021-04-14, version 1.0.3*

This app is awful. I can only ever see 3 of my holds at a time. It also never alerts me when my books on hold are ready to be borrowed. It's just terrible.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2020-03-02, version 1.0.2*

Can’t log in. Can’t input credentials. Timeouts out the wazoo when I know my home internet speed is pretty dang fast. Can’t look anything up - more timeouts! No smart search - you misspell a word you’re getting back an empty queue. Worse than the last iteration of the app. Incredibly frustrating.

### 2/5 — Network Error when adding to Apple Card

*2026-08-19, version 2026.08.00*

I receive a network error when trying to add library card to apple wallet.

*2022-07-30, version 1.0.10*

Hi there. I’ve enjoyed using the app. Just noticed today that while doing an Advanced Search under Catalog, the Harbor City - Harbor Gateway Branch location is missing from the list.
