## What is Loscil?

Adrift is a collection of 4 pieces of endless music by ambient musician loscil. The music uses structured random selection to continuously play with no beginning or end. The pieces were conceived as aural backdrops, seascapes of sound in which the listener is encouraged to drift in and out of; at times becoming focal points for deep listening and otherwise sinking into the subconscious. Each of the four pieces is named after an infamous ghost ship. Like the ships themselves, the music is adrift at sea, wandering with the tides, following the swells of the waves, aimless and lost.

Acoustic and electronic sources were recorded and produced as individual phrases and elements that the application selects and weaves together on the fly making each experience of the music slightly different. Adrift features original artwork by Gregory Euclide, compositions and production by Scott Morgan with musicians Kelly Wyse on piano, Mark Bridges on cello and Elisa Thorn on harp.

## Key features

- Four endless ambient music pieces
- Structured random music generation
- Original artwork by Gregory Euclide
- Compositions by Scott Morgan
- Live instrumentation (piano, cello, harp)

### 5/5 — Just beautiful

*2024-04-27*

My favorite loops for relaxation and sleep

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2022-01-31*

Late to this party. Great app, though I guess its been some time and very buggy on Apple TV 4K.

### 5/5 — Hypnotising!

*2020-07-16, version 1.1*

This is a beautiful generative music app that is comparable to much more pricy alternatives such as Endel and Brian Eno’s Reflection (both apps I use). There aren’t many generative ambient music apps out there but this one manages not only to sound great (I often forget the music is not directly made by hand which is a tribute to the app’s quality) but to keep the price down.

There are four tracks (ambient music generators) included and each sounds individual yet well-fitted to the timeless and chilling theme.

I have noticed a slight bug that reverses the track that is selected when tapping one of the four options (eg. tapping on track 1 plays track 4 and vice versa). This however is a minor annoyance that the price more than makes up for.

The one thing the app lacks is a pause timer. So if you wish for the music to stop when you fall asleep, you’ll have to set a timer in the clock app with ‘When Timer Ends’ set to stop playing.

I would definitely recommend this app to anyone who wants calm and hypnotising music that keeps you in the same timeless suspense as a ship that has sailed adrift.

### 5/5 — Found This on BandCamp...

*2020-05-29, version 1.1*

Believe it or not, I found this app, along with this music on BandCamp.

For over 20 years I have had less than 5 hours of sleep every night. Last night I downloaded this app and got a full 7 1/2 hours!!! Thank you.

### 5/5 — An atmosphere of quietude

*2019-09-29*

This is a beautiful app.
I am able to settle the mind and find moments of sleep at night with the sounds continuously shifting, gently.
I also work in the studio immersed when this app is playing.
Thank you Scott.

👀👂Your Melbourne Substation show was stunning by the way, with such texturally rich and subtle movements of sound. Thank you ever so for making the trip across the world. Wishing you the best. - Rohan☺️

### 3/5 — De-generative Music

*2019-06-09*

I enjoy the music while it lasts, but that’s not very long — less than an hour before it degenerates into a simple drone. At that point it appears to have stopped generating new music and reached stasis. Is this normal? Not the “endless” experience of other generative music apps, like the Eno range.

### 5/5 — a lovely art work...

*2019-02-21, version 1.1*

...at a really good price. Shifting and drifting sonic fragments create a varied composition within a continuously harmonious framework. If you enjoy the music of Eno, Stars of Lid, and other artists who use sound to excite the spatial imagination, then this is going to please you. It’s surprising how much variety can be generated from some simple harmonic and textural elements. The sense of drifting un-moored motion is also present in the nifty graphic component, which evokes, like the sound, a seemingly endless seascape from simple repetition of some basic elements.

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2019-02-13*

Very impressed. More please.

### 5/5 — The Soft Forever

*2018-05-05*

Saw loscil in downtown LA and husband and I both loved, and he doesn’t even like this kind of music! For less than the cost of a seven inch you get an infinite album. That’s ambient VALUE.

### 5/5 — Beautiful

Great, seemingly endless spool of ambient music.

This also turned me on to Loscil’s albums, which are on Apple Music and are great.
