### 2/5 — Frustrating

*2025-02-08, version 12.7.8*

When you can get into it it’s quite a useful tool. Virtually always fails to boot up. Always have to log in from scratch with no memory of email or password. Surely it can’t be that hard to get the basics right.Frustrating!!

### 3/5 — Very slow to load

*2024-01-12, version 12.7.8*

Finding app very slow to load , have to shut down and restart . Every couple of days have to add logins details despite selecting remember me .

### 2/5 — App very difficult to stay logged in

*2023-04-08, version 12.7.5*

Thought I try this, so took up offer of 50% discount. But don’t know whether because I didn’t buy subscription through Apple the App keeps opening with screen to buy a subscription. Does keep me logged in, allow touch opening, so have to keep rendering email and password, then wait for App to refresh via Wi-Fi. Makes login food and insulin very tedious. Have to revert to access via Safari. Reported problem and supposedly this has been passed on to their Technical Team, but would have thought they should have solution to hand, can’t see why I the only IPhone user who has had this problem?

Programme looks good, but App very poor in comparison with MyNetDiary or MyFitnessPal.

### 2/5 — Helpful

*2022-09-29, version 12.7.3*

I’ve purchased this app for the information as I suffer from T2 diabetes. But what let’s this app down is the food logging. The input of food via scanner is great, but then you have to workout what portions size you had and the nutrition information doesn’t always match the product info on the packaging. My fitness pal is streets ahead in this department. But as I’ve said the information around a low carb diet is good.

### 3/5 — Needs work and to be UK based.

*2022-09-26, version 12.7.3*

So many of the foods and measurements are US based. I can’t find coffee with whole milk, only semi-skimmed, which is not good for a low carb diet. This is not the only food I can’t find. Also, I’m unable to enter my own foods or amend any that are not quite suitable. I’m not convinced that this is an app at all, it takes ages to load and ALWAYS asks me to login, every time! So annoying, because it makes entering my food a mammoth task. Why not keep my data with the app and have instant access?

### 1/5 — They just want your money!

*2021-12-06, version 4.0*

The app offers nothing unless you pay up first! It’s clearly all about making money off of vulnerable people and reading the reviews the app appears buggy and is poor value. Avoid!

### 1/5 — Either Poor or Greedy Log-in Error

*2021-07-10, version 3.9.10*

I was looking forward to using this UK app but despite numerous attempts the log-in prevented me from accessing the app unless I signed up to a subscription.

### 2/5 — Poor functionality driving me mad

*2021-03-02, version 3.9.7*

I don’t know where to start there are so many problems. Far better apps out there but I like this program - but seriously this needs urgent improvement.

### 1/5 — Not able to log on.

*2020-10-11, version 3.9.7*

I’ve entered my details several times but saying problem with log in details. I can’t see what’s wrong. My password has everything asked for.

### 1/5 — A Scam

*2020-10-09*

What a load of rubbish this App is. People can just follow the DiRECT 800 calories a day diet from the University of Newcastle. Unlike this expensive App, it’s completely free and provides a balanced nutritious diet.
Type 2DM can easily be put into remission and BMI controlled. Its as simple as that, just cut out poor calorie rich food and the pancreas debilitating lipotoxicity that causes type two diabetes disappears. As an example, 10 weeks on the DiRECT diet will remove 25kg of visceral fat obesity and put 2TDM into full remission.
This awful expensive App is not required.
Rest assured its developer will seek to respond via sleazy feedback in trying to defend their pathetic App, do not be taken in or fooled by their marketing nonsense. Just take a look at the University of Newcastle DiRECT website, its funded by the NHS and Diabetes UK.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you're not satisfied with the Low Carb Program app. While the DiRECT diet from the University of Newcastle is a great option, our app offers additional features such as personalized meal plans, tracking tools, and a supportive community. We understand that cost is a concern for some users, which is why we strive to provide value for the price. However, we appreciate your input and will take it into consideration for future improvements.

### 1/5 — Can’t sign up!

*2020-08-07, version 3.9.7*

This is very frustrating as I’ve bought the book and wanted to use the App for support. I’ve tried several times to sign up and keep getting the same response, something went wrong with your sign up, I’ve followed the guidelines and put the correct Password details in. I’ve also deleted the App and tried again. No luck! Any guidance would be appreciated so I can use the App and change the Star rating.

### 1/5 — Can’t sign up for it!

*2020-07-30, version 3.9.7*

Won’t even let me sign up for it so can’t comment on the content. Password needs to be at least 10 characters, 1 of which must be a number plus 1 letter plus 1 special character. My password had 15 characters with 2 letters, 2 numbers and 1 special character. Kept saying the password should be 10 characters or more. Tried a different password twice but then said login details were wrong. Thought that maybe it had actually accepted one of passwords but no, it hadn’t. Gave up at that point!

### 2/5 — I so wanted this to help me better.....

*2020-07-27, version 3.9.7*

I got this to improve my diabetes tracking, meds, exercise and food recipes / management and to use the podcasts. Considering it cost me £20 ( usual price £70 p.a.) I feel quite let down. I havent even begun to use the podcasts yet.... and I’m 3 months in.
I am so annoyed by the app agility, food barcode scanner and that I get alerts every time I log in via a different WiFi - it’s me at work , at home, at the canteen. It fails to retain my regularly used food data ( I tend to stick to favourite brands), as it loses three days of food listings as it logs me out, when I log back in ... no previous foods. It comes up with really weird brands I’ve never heard of (please, get the main UK supermarket and bargain shop’s items into the app) and has really random portion sizes to select. I want to be able to put in grams of things , not pre-determined portions/ pack sizes. Getting to the point of not bothering with the food diary, as it takes so long to put in one meal. Very slow, clunky and frustrating.

### 2/5 — Please fix

*2020-06-24, version 3.9.6*

I have to log on every time I use it which is such a pain. The food diary seems great that you can scan in meals but I haven’t found one that works yet. Cant even enter the nutritional info from the back have to find something similar which takes ages. Really needs updating to make it user friendly.

### 1/5 — Pay up before I know it’s any good?!

*2020-06-09, version 3.9.5*

I downloaded this app with good intentions, however seeing you have to pay firstly to see anything of it is extremely off-putting. It’s a lot of money to pay for a gamble especially with these poor reviews of glitches. Couldn’t you at least do a week free trial before paying? - that way people can actually see what they’re paying for!?!!

### 1/5 — Useless

*2020-06-02, version 3.9.5*

I can’t even register, says that my entries are invalid. Clearly this is unusual but I’m blowed if I know what’s wrong. Seriously daft password requirement too - what’s a special character? I assumed £& etc, apparently not.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Taken Away

*2026-04-27, version 12.7.8*

Have used this App provided free by the NHS as part of my Diabetes Programme.
Tried to log in after a few weeks away and it will not let me sign in with my password or allow me to set another password.
Will contact NHS tomorrow to find out why there is a problem. Or could you help me to log back into my program that has years of data in it ?

### 1/5 — Impossible to cancel

*2025-07-27, version 12.7.8*

They make it impossible to cancel then automatically charge you

### 1/5 — Underhanded ongoing subscription

*2025-01-01, version 12.7.8*

I paid as it was the only way to see if the app would help me. The honest answer is that it didn’t, the main thing is the lack of recipe choice, with recipes in the same grouping all appearing very similar, and to be honest, the Slimming World app feels like it has much more for around the same price, although I accept not specifically aimed at Low Carb.
Most annoyingly is that having checked my Apple App Store subscriptions monthly as I do, I know this this app doesn’t show in the list of active or suspended subscriptions so I assumed it was a single annual fee with no on-going subscription. However, yesterday another annual fee has been requested from my bank, no email warning me, no text message, no notification, just straight into taking the money.
Then try finding any information on the app about ‘subscriptions’, it is hidden right away in the depths of the site and is just two sentences. It tells you to cancel it in the App Store (yep, the place that it doesn’t show up in)!
But to make things harder, it goes on to say that you cannot access your ‘subscription’ details through the app, making it near impossible to sort out the questionable ‘ongoing subscription’.
So be warned and think twice before giving these people your money via the App Store.

### 1/5 — Cost ?

*2024-01-12, version 12.7.8*

No mention of cost, till my personal data was collected. *I request all my data is removed under GDPR uk law.•
I feel the cost should be made clear and upfront before collecting my data.

### 1/5 — Logging out all the time and other things

*2023-04-13, version 12.7.5*

I have only been signed up for 4 days and have just been using the app for 3 of these days and it keeps wanting me to sign up again and it is not remembering my details.

Also when you try to edit any thing which was put in the edit boxes for the time etc are not showing on the screen

The app need someone to do QA testing on it

Using an iPhone 13 max pro on iOS 16.4.1

### 1/5 — Very poor App

*2023-02-23, version 12.7.5*

Not going to waste my time listing all the issues with it.

### 1/5 — Poor UI, no idea how to get the best from the app

*2022-10-18, version 12.7.4*

I’m sure that the advice the app gives is great, but the UI is terrible. For example, searching for recipes is tedious. When you do find a recipe you like, if you’re switching between apps (for example if you’re shopping online) the app resets to the homepage and you have to go and find the recipe again.

I don’t feel like the app has a clear path to follow in order to really get the best from it. Plus, it doesn’t work with the app for my BG monitor, which is a very common one.

Really unhappy with it given how much I paid for the subscription.

### 1/5 — Can’t believe you now have to pay

*2022-06-20, version 12.7.1*

I’ve used this to log all my medical data for over a year. Just gone to update after a bout in hospital and can’t access any previous data. Now you have to pay. Btw it’s cheaper online than on your app No warning. No way to get previous data I’m disgusted

### 1/5 — No trial?

*2022-03-01, version 12.6.2*

This looked like exactly the app I needed, however, as there is no trial period, and only a £69.99 annual subscription being offered, I’m not feeling any compelling reason to move forward. Surprised that there’s no monthly option or 1 month free trial to get new customers onboard.
As a result, can’t evaluate how effective it is so can only give it 1 star.

### 1/5 — Poor stability

*2022-01-24, version 12.6.1*

The menus on this app are great however regardless whether you use an iPhone or iPad it repeatedly shuts down within seconds of login. Also despite selecting remember me it never does and so therefore you have to enter your details over and over. The combination of these two issues, in my experience, makes it a very poor app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Miss Ifeoma Orjiekwe

*2022-04-11, version 12.7.0*

### 5/5 — Low carb program

*2021-03-04, version 3.9.7*

Paid for program didn’t all I got was a down loaded book didn’t realize they was a app now I’ve tried logging in but it wants me to pay twice. It should have sent me to App Store when I bought it first time I thought it was just a booklet it not worth the money I paid not paying twice doesn’t work . I bought it through diabetes uk

### 5/5 — Do it!

*2020-06-10, version 3.9.6*

If you’re thinking about joining, do it! I joined free with a code from my doctor here in London and have been part of the program for about 8 months. I’ve lost about 18kg since joining and no longer on diabetes medications. If you eat the foods the program tells you to eat you will lost weight - my doctor is amazed at my progress and I’m now looking forward to coming off metformin in my next review. 5 *****!

### 5/5 — Easy to use, straight to the point

*2020-05-13, version 3.9.3*

Useful information and great community

### 5/5 — I’ve lost 17kg

*2020-04-22, version 3.9.2*

### 5/5 — The bugs are gone!

*2020-04-21, version 3.9.2*

### 5/5 — Great app, highly recommend

*2020-04-21, version 3.9.2*

Loved the mindfulness and the recipes on this app. Super easy to use too!

### 5/5 — Loving this app

*2020-04-21, version 3.9.2*

I didn’t think that a global pandemic would be the time to make a lifestyle change but I am so glad I downloaded the Low Carb Program, Michaela my mentor has been great. My wife is enjoying some of the recipes we’ve tried and we’re both down 6 pounds.

### 5/5 — 12 week challenge has been just what I needed

*2020-02-22, version 3.9*

I always start a new year with the best intentions but this is the first year I’ve done anything like this. Harry has been so motivating 🥰 and it has helped me to understand why I should be making the changes I have been making rather than just telling me what to do. I’ve really enjoyed it which was surprise to my husband as I really like my food! The recipes have been brilliant and I love the exercise classes with Lisa. I can’t wait for my diabetes check up, I’ve lost almost 12kg since new year! 🥳🥳
