Works really well. ### 5/5 — What a useful tool *2025-09-10, version 2.5* People think weather routing is only useful for long distance sailors. How wrong. The departure variations option lets you pick the right time of day for leaving considering wind (HRRR)and currents (NCOM) for the US east coast for example. Worked this summer multiple times and was very accurate. The tutorial is very helpful, there is a large selection of forecast models to select from, and the graphic output is easily understandable. There is a bit of a learning curve but that is true of all Grib file apps. Additions I would like to see: download the Access grib file model: routing calculation uses each downloaded model to calculate route at the same time and compare. None of these are deal breakers. This app is excellent. ### 5/5 — Best Offshore Weather App *2025-04-10, version 2.4.3* LuckGrib has a much broader broad range of weather and oceanographic models to choose from compared to other apps and LuckGrib gives you access to the detailed data if you care to understand the why of the forecast. The ensemble forecasts are great for making clear the variability between the models. The vessel and output parameters are highly customizable. The GUI and output are candy. It’s become my primary tool for planning offshore passages. ### 5/5 — Built in tutorials are A+ *2025-03-01, version 2.4.3* All apps should have the amount of care built in to them that LuckGrib has. It has several hands-on tutorials built in that are easy to get to and learn from. This app is easy to use and very useful! It has a ton of features and thanks to the tutorials I can get to them and use them. I am very impressed by the functionality, ease of use, and I know I can use the tutorials if I get stuck. ### 5/5 — Best marine weather app *2025-02-25, version 2.4.3* I’ve been using LuckGrib while planning 4 passages across North Pacific - all in the winter and avoiding 5 tropical cyclones in South China Sea over 3 weeks. It helped me a lot to chose the route with the best possible fair weather. The app is really designed for the professional mariners. It’s been my primary source of reliable weather data. Excellent in all respects. The graphics is really mariner- friendly using all familiar facsimile charts symbols and presentation. 500 mb models are of great help as well. Very well designed and easy rouse On-The-Go. Routing engine is fast and accurate (solution space concept is really awesome and I never saw it elsewhere). Weather models are pretty exhaustive. And, last but not least, you pay once and it is done (no recurring fees). I bought the app but found it had been changed. I used it on an iPad, it is far from intuitive and I had to ask for help. As a Grib viewer, it is clumsy compared, say, to PocketGrib. I used the email address on the website but emails did not go - using my iCloud account. Frustrating. Rest of it is very easy. Only we used iridium go. Many competing weather and routing services have adopted a subscription model, where you pay over and over again, year after year.
