There is a lot of gameplay and exploration. I used the hotspots frequently because there are a lot of items that are clickable but not necessary. The only negative thing I have to say is that I don’t understand the ending. If went right over my head I guess. ### 5/5 — Stellar old-school style game with spectacular voice acting *2023-04-25* If you love old-school style adventures this is worth the purchase. The voice acting by itself is worth the price of admission. It’s a fun game with a twisty story. The only downsides: 1. The backtracking between dream world and real world is tedious and often ridiculous with you switching back and forth quickly; 2. I felt the ending could have been expanded to sell the story. It’s the first one I’ve ever played without using any hints or guides at all and it took me about 9/10 hours overall and was extremely satisfying every time I made progress. Only downside is it came to an end, and I feel like something was missing towards the end compared to the start/middle of the game. Maybe just one more area or an expanded “basement”… I dunno. This doesn’t stop it being a solid 5 star game though. Laughed out loud on multiple occasions. Bang tidy game now in my top 5 point and clicks. It has been the most fun to venture through Lucy’s dreams and solve the game. My children are obsessed and are completing their badge collection. Looking forward to playing more from Tall Story. I nearly missed this thank goodness I landed on it. I have just begun but already know based on the prequel it will be superb, and well worth the money. If you enjoyed thimbleweed park, monkey island, Sam and max, day of the tentacle and other games of that ilk you will LOVE this. Also the point and click voice actor legend cameo made my whole day. Really enjoyed it. Hope for a second game! ### 5/5 — I’ve waited for this since the prequel *2022-11-05* I played the prequel some time ago and have been waiting for this release since. It reminded me of Thimbleweed Park. Lucy’s Northern English twist made me laugh so much. I couldn’t put this down once I’d started. I love that it’s not ridged and there is room to Bob around the different zones to figure thing out with different rules. A laugh a minute, tricky at times, but not so complex that the puzzles can’t be figured out. Love, love, love. Please make more. ### 5/5 — Great game, fully voiced, 15 hours to finish *2022-10-31* Really fun game with humor and style like the old Lucasarts and Sierra point and click adventure games. I played the demo before the release and Hair of the Dog so I was looking forward to this. The puzzles are all logical and can be figured out. I didn't need to look up any hints or strategy guide to finish the game. All characters are fully voiced. There is a lot of funny lines and humor if you click on all the options, and there's lots of items to click on. I love the very British humor and setting. The game took me just over 14 hours to finish. There are optional patches you can collect for completing various tasks, some of them secret tasks. I was able to get half of them. I wish there was at least a clue on how to get the others. Besides that, the game is fun and worth the price! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 2/5 — 🙈🐒 *2023-12-06* For the amount paid it was anticlimactic. It’s ending was meh. It wasn’t worth 14.99 it was worth 4.99. Sorry for being judgmental. ### 2/5 — Wanted to love it *2022-11-15* I was so excited for this game and wanted to love it, but could not get past the strong and bizarre animal torture theme that smacks you in the face for at the very least the first part of the game. The protagonist’s brother is an animal torturing/murdering serial killer in the making, and his sad trophies proudly adorn the house. Lucy tells us that he prefers experimenting on live animals and the house is fenced in in order to keep the public out and her brother in. I guess it’s all ok, though, because mom appears to be some kind of deranged psycho killer too. I guess it’s supposed to be funny? I tried to power through this part of the game, but turns out in order to progress the game you need to recover your brother’s escaped pet and return it to him. This pet chewed through metal to escape whatever torture he’d endured, but you knowingly are supposed to return the poor animal in exchange for a nonliving toy your brother took from you. It’s made pretty clear what kind of horrible intentions your brother has for the poor animal. Yes, I realize it’s just a game, but it would have been nice to at least have the option for the protagonist to NOT be a willing accomplice in all this disgusting animal torture/murder thing that’s going on. This game didn’t really bill itself in a way to make me think this is the kind of thing that would be included. So I’m hugely disappointed. And no, I don’t think animal torture is hilarious or funny. It’s just wrong and gross and I wished the developers could have added elements of darkness in a different way. **Developer response:** Hey, thanks so much for your comment, I can understand your feelings on this theme. The "animal" angle is actually integral to the narrative of the game, and is an outward symptom of an underlying trauma experienced by one of the characters in the past (I don't want to give away too many spoilers). It's regarded in a lighthearted way throughout the game to show that Lucy has become desensitised to it throughout her life. I can thoroughly understand that this may be upsetting to you, though and, for that, I apologise. If you would a refund for your purchase, I believe you can organise this through the AppStore but, if not, please let me know and I'll do my best to arrange it for you. My intention was never to offend. I do not personally think that animal cruelty is at all funny. Tom ### 3/5 — Is it really worth $16? *2025-12-27* Before this game, I stumbled upon “Not Another Weekend” and “Darkside Detective” (both 1 and 2). I was searching for a similar visual point and click game and found Lucy Dreaming. The price of this game held me back for a while as the price is astronomical. For reference, the bundle for Darkside Detective (including BOTH 1 and 2) cost me $13. To this fact, I thought based on someone’s review that it had “15 hours of gameplay” that this game must be really long and worth the $16. Unfortunately, it was not. Whoever wrote that review, I don’t know how they got 15 hours out of it. It was more like 5-6 hours for me. I DID enjoy the game. Don’t get me wrong, it was exactly what I was looking for and I really did enjoy playing it. The plot was interesting, going between the 2 different worlds (dreaming vs real life) was fun and different, and the voice acting was funny, but good. All the puzzles were pretty straightforward, but I did need to look up a hint or two when needing to figure out the “dream worlds” as there was no indication you needed to keep going back to certain old dreams, especially on the last book. However, the question is - was it worth $16? No it wasn’t. I figured out the ending like half way through as it was fairly obvious. Although some people may enjoy the fact that you can click EVERYTHING, I found it to be annoying lol. Although they do give you a button to reveal all the important objects, I found that several times they showed me objects that had no relevance (ie the mirror in the house). Doing this also does not help you progress as some of the puzzles have no indication of what to do (ie the dream worlds). At one point in the game, I was completely lost as there are no hints or helpful clues at that point (the last book; dream world). Lastly, as I said above, it is NOT a very long game (no where near 15 hours; I seriously don’t know how it would take that long). Also, I don’t think it’s replay-able at all. Maybe to find all the “patches” but this is another thing that isn’t explained at all and there’s no indication where to get them. Overall, I do slightly regret paying $16. I wish the cost fit the game better. Personally, $16 in my opinion would be for a game that you can keep playing even after finishing the main quest, or take longer to finish than 5 hours. It took me a little to get used to the quirky style and while I‘m not a fan of the game’s character designs or Lucy‘s voice (sorry!) the dialogues, monologues and general writing is really smart and funny - just like the puzzles. You can clearly see the influences from classic LA games. Also I really liked the dynamics between the real world and Lucy’s dreams and the way how both worlds kind of depend on each other in order to progress in the game. In short, great game!! A little pricey maybe, but great puzzles, dialogues and it even has a wonderful cameo in it. ### 4/5 — Excellent game *2023-09-11* If only it was longer! ### 4/5 — Issue of using a S-word in Library location *2023-06-19* Hello - I haven’t rated this game yet, but I was enjoying it and the puzzles were challenging. I was enjoying it when I encounter a S-word. The issue is that the S-word was used inside the Library location and I don’t like it. Can you change the name instead? If so, I can wait until another version or update of the game comes up. Let me know if you can change it. Thanks! ### 4/5 — Fun except for the ending *2022-11-28* I was disappointed by the ending and felt it wasn’t a suitable reward for all the elaborate puzzles I solved. I still enjoyed most of the journey. There’s an abundant serving of cheesy humor in the vein of classic adventure games. The puzzles get self-awarely convoluted and ridiculous, but I could still solve most of them thanks to effective signposting. The dream worlds, though small, are diverse and imaginative. The interaction between dreams and reality is clever. I would recommend this game to fans of retro point-and-click adventures, but there are much better adventure games out there. ### 5/5 — Witty with thoughtful puzzles *2026-03-05* Finally an adventure game that you don’t have to resort to trying all of your inventory with everything you can interact with. Genuinely funny, great voice acting, and generally logical puzzles (no inflatable duck dream logic à la The Longest Journey). There are in-game hints for most puzzles, and you can skip dialogue, fast travel, and highlight hotspots (features that can make or break a game like this). Some minor tedium switching between dreams and, as others have commented, the ending seemed a little… Monkey Island 2-esque. I’ve played dozens of these kinds of games, but this is the most unique experience I’ve had so far!
