## What is Ludwig?

Ludwig is a practice journal and sheet music reader for classical musicians.

Every piece you play sits on a five-stage ladder, from first read-through to performing from memory. Practising moves it up. You judge the stage by ear; Ludwig never grades you.

A PRACTICE JOURNAL

Timed sessions logged per piece. Weekly goals, streaks, a 100-day heat map, and a full log you can still read in November.

A SHEET MUSIC READER

Photograph your marked-up copies or import PDFs, and every score lives with the piece it belongs to. Pinch to zoom, pencil in fingerings, turn pages with a tap or a Bluetooth pedal. On a tablet in landscape you get a proper two-page spread.

TODAY

Your practice queue. PLANNED keeps the order you set. COACH builds it for you, putting the pieces that need attention first, so the one you have been quietly avoiding stops getting avoided.

PROGRAMMES

Add a recital, exam or eisteddfod and Ludwig builds a programme around it: the pieces in running order, each with its performance length, a total against your slot, and which piece is furthest from where it needs to be.

LESSONS

Tag a session as a lesson, capture what your teacher said mid-piece, and send them a practice summary as a PDF before you have left the room.

ANY INSTRUMENT

Piano-first, but it works for violin, cello, voice, guitar, flute, clarinet, oboe, trumpet, harp and organ, each with its own repertoire and goals. A catalogue of around 25,000 classical works to pull pieces from, so you are not typing your repertoire in by hand.

NO ACCOUNT, NO SERVER

Your practice data stays on your device. Ludwig works offline, has no login, and can back up to your own cloud storage. Anonymous usage statistics can be switched off in Settings.

PRICING

Free to use with up to 3 pieces, 1 instrument and 1 programme, for as long as you like. Nothing you make is ever deleted.

Ludwig Premium removes the limits and adds wink page turns, half-page turns, recording speed and loops, reports longer than a week, and your full practice history. It is $4.99 a month, and new subscribers start with 7 days free: the subscription then begins automatically unless you cancel before the trial ends, and you can cancel any time in your App Store settings. Or pay $29.99 once and Premium is yours for good.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.5 — 2026-10-10

A first piece to start with. Pianists now begin with the first movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, violinists with Rieding's Concerto in B minor, score included. A short animated tour shows how to change a piece's level, rest it, retire it or delete it, then you add your own.

Import from another app (beta). Bring your library across from forScore, MobileSheets or a spreadsheet: choose the exported CSV and your PDFs, check the preview, and Ludwig matches pieces to its catalogue. Find it in Settings, or at the end of onboarding.

Also in this release: tablet layouts tidied on Today, Repertoire and Settings, the Undo toast no longer hides behind Start Session, and the free tier is now 3 active pieces with the paywall shown only when you try to add a fourth.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-10-05

Ludwig is now free to use, with up to 3 pieces, for as long as you like. Head-turn page turns are free too.

New: play recordings slower or faster and loop a passage, and half-page turns that keep the last lines in view. These come with Ludwig Premium.

Onboarding now shows what Ludwig does: scanning sheet music, sending your teacher a practice report, and hands-free page turns.

Plus clearer paywall messages and many small fixes.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-09-23

Bug fixes and performance improvements.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-09-17

Metronome clicks are scheduled on the audio clock for tighter timing. Fixed a hands-free camera crash on open and improved portrait/landscape start detection. Adding a piece now adds its score at the same time, in onboarding too. Score editing and tablet layouts improved, and settings switches stay visible when on.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-15

No release notes.
