Learn every word of the Qur'an, ayah by ayah. Most apps hand you a translation and hope the Arabic sinks in along the way. It doesn't. Lugha teaches the words themselves, all 77,429 of them across 114 surahs and 6,236 ayat, each one carrying its gloss, its root and its grammar, joined per word from verified scholarly sources. Learn • Word-by-word lessons for every surah, starting with Al-Fātiḥah • Study the cards first, then answer them in a shuffled order, because testing a word the moment you flip its card asks nothing of memory • Three correct answers make a word mastered. Recall mode brings back your weakest ones and tells you which surah you met them in • Rings for the whole Qur'an and for each surah, showing what you have met and what you have mastered Read • The complete Uthmani mushaf in a large, clear Arabic face • Light and dark, with the text size you set yourself • Jump by surah or by juz, all 30 of them • Long-press any ayah for Tafsīr al-Jalālayn, in English (Feras Hamza's translation, used with the permission of the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought) and in the original Arabic Memorise • Hifz mode: one ayah, full screen, sized to fill it • A veil you draw across the ayah line by line to test yourself • Per-ayah recitation from renowned reciters, Shaykh al-Ḥuṣarī by default, downloadable a surah at a time for offline listening • Memorised ayat are counted apart from vocabulary. Your progress stays on your phone. ## Version history (last 5 releases) ### 1.0.8 — 2026-09-02 Plain words More than a hundred lines of text in the app have been rewritten. The app does the same things, in fewer words. • Nothing about how the app works has changed. Your words, your hifz, your circles and your khatms are where you left them • Buttons, hints and dialogs now say what happens in one line. Most of what changed, you'll notice by what is gone • Words you've answered once are "seen", and words you know are "known". They used to be "met" and "mastered", which is how the code thinks about them • Settings lost its lectures. A section that took four clauses to explain now takes one • Error messages blame nobody. "No connection" says everything the old paragraph did Written for someone learning their first Arabic word. ### 1.0.7 — 2026-08-30 Khatm A circle can now read the whole Qur'an together. Thirty juz, divided between you, by a date. • Home, Zikr, My khatms. Pick the circle, give it an intention (for Nani, for Ramadan) and a date. Everyone in the circle gets a push and an invitation on their home screen • The board shows all 30 juz: open, held by someone with how far they are, or done. Take the ones you want. Whoever planned it can hand out the rest in one tap • Read your juz in the app and your place is saved as you go, across surahs. The last thing on the page is the button that marks it done. Nothing is marked by scrolling past it • Three days and one day before the date, if your juz is not finished, your phone says so. When the thirtieth juz is done the whole circle hears • Finish a round and start the next with everyone moved on one juz Nobody is ranked. The board shows which juz are open, never who is behind. ### 1.0.6 — 2026-08-29 Circles Learning on your own is easy to stop. A circle is a few people who can see whether you turned up today. • A circle is a handful of people you practise with. One code invites them, and everyone sees everyone: words met, salawat, and a seven day grid of who sat down on which day • At 7pm, if every other person in your circle has practised and you have not, your phone says so. That is the whole idea • You also hear when someone starts the day, and on a day you have done nothing at all you get your own reminder. A circle of one still counts • Each of those is its own switch in Settings, with a pause for travel or illness. You still count towards the circle while paused, and nobody is told you stopped • Reading the mushaf and marking an ayah memorised now count as practice. Lessons were never the only way to sit down with the Qur'an • Circles live in Settings now, where you can find them ### 1.0.5 — 2026-08-01 Tafsir while you read Reading the Book and reading about it used to be two separate screens. They should not be. • The notes icon in the reader's header prints the commentary under each ayah as you read, small and quiet under the text • Two more editions: Tafsir Ibn Kathir in English, the long commentary with its narrations, and Irfan-ul-Quran, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri's English translation with its footnotes. Four in all • The tabs now say which is which. The Arabic Jalalayn is the same tafsir as the English one, and it used to read like a fourth work • Understanding an ayah is when you want to learn it, so the tafsir sheet now opens hifz mode at the ayah you are reading about • The flashcard deck's side taps sit further out, so a tap meant to turn a card over no longer marks it ### 1.0.4 — 2026-07-28 Learning words, properly: • Half of every lesson now rehearses words you have already met, from anywhere in the Qur'an. A word met once and never again is a word forgotten, so practice is no longer a separate screen you have to remember to open • Three ways into a surah: flip through flashcards, learn, or take a test • Flashcards swipe. Throw a card left if you did not know it and it leads your next lesson; right if you did.
