### 4/5 — Interface only in arabic

*2024-07-04*

Why the interface is fully in arabic oppositely to the screenshots on the Appstore ?
Except that, the app is super great

### 5/5 — يعتيك العفية

*2020-11-18, version 2*

Love the update!!! Great job!!!

### 5/5 — Great

*2019-10-09*

Amazing resource, don’t know anything else like it. Fantastic labour of love and glad to be able to support it after years of using it daily while in Lebanon learning Arabic

### 5/5 — Best way to learn Amiya

*2019-07-29*

Only thing it could use is a night mode. The white light can be a bit jarring at night; it’d be better if it gave you the option to have white text with a black background. Also you have to use the search button in the app instead of the one on the iPhone keyboard which is a little annoying. Other than that perfect.

### 5/5 — The BEST 3amiyyeh dictionary!

*2019-05-09*

Been using it for years now, and it’s simply the best resource out there. The most helpful thing by far is that the amount of example sentences for each word to help put it in context.

That being said, I’m not a huge fan of the most recent update. The font was already small before the update, but now it’s so tiny that it’s difficult to read. Maybe make it larger? Otherwise, it’s the best thing out there.

### 5/5 — Best tool out there for Shami/Egyptian Dialects

*2019-02-03*

If you’re learning shami and don’t have this app, you’re doing it wrong. I would have paid $100 for it easily given the lack of alternatives. it’s got examples for most of the entries which is invaluable for a dictionary (much more useful in this regard for Hans Wegr). I’m less interested in the Classical Dictionary given how many resources there are but this is the difference between mastering a dialect and stumbling with it for years in a sea of loose threads

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2018-12-03, version 1.1.0*

This is exactly the app I had envisioned to build with “Levantine Spoken Arabic.” This is by far superior, and the best (and only) app available that does what it does. I cannot praise it highly enough.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2018-01-17*

Best app out there right now for use as a dialect dictionary.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Absolutely not worth trying this app!

*2023-08-12, version 3.2.0*

Ive searched for a several words and most of them didn’t appear properly in the search . Not that one out of 3 letters were different, the search would show me completely different word with not even close letters!

### 1/5 — Annoying ads ruin UX

*2022-07-10*

Great app but really freaking annoying ads in the recent update. If you want to make money off the app you should offer either a subscription or one-time payment option.

Veeeery frustrating to be mid-conversation with someone, open the app to look up a word you missed, and then have to watch a freaking space invader advertisement for five or ten seconds before being allowed to see the results of your search. Kind of a terrible revenue model for what’s potentially a daily-use kind of app.

Please fix this. Would be happy to modify the review once it is fixed.

### 1/5 — Broken

*2020-11-02*

Doesn’t seem to work with 2020 iPhone updates and doesn’t seem to be actively updated. Will remove this negative review if/when this changes.

**Developer response:** Hi, I realize this is about a year and half old now, but the app has been updated and should work with the new iPhone.

### 1/5 — Not working??

*2020-06-29*

I LOVE this app and website but neither are working right now. I am so sad!! Is there an upgrade happening? Please fix the issues soon or let your users know what’s going on.

**Developer response:** Hi, I realize this message is about 2 years hold now, but I wanted to let you know that the app has been updated and should work with the latest iPhone and iOS.

### 1/5 — Keyboard option is missing

*2020-01-24*

Those using latin alphabet has hard time entering search words. Even you se transcribed version it does not recognize it 99% of the time. I am not sure it has a dictionary database or not.

### 2/5 — Close but no cigar

*2022-04-24*

This a wonderful idea, to make some kind of crowd sourced, universal Arabic dictionary but it fails to translate some of the most basic Arabic words. For example, for باب، door or gate, its first guess is ادب- literature. Door shows up at some point but it is one of many possibilities.
In addition, the font used is so small that for some like me, whose eyesight is bot great.
If you want to use the program it would be better to use the browser based version, livingarabic.com which uses larger fonts and can be enlarged.

### 3/5 — Bugged

*2023-04-13*

App is crashing constantly

### 3/5 — Why SO many ads now??

*2022-06-20*

Always been my go-to app for quick translation. I’m so disappointed now by the ads. I didn’t pay $11 for the app (this was before it became free) just to be bombarded with ads every time I open or search something.

### 3/5 — Fonts too small！

*2020-02-24*

Looks like great dictionary and since it supports dialects it’s invaluable! But the Arabic fonts are so small, even on iPad, that it’s almost useless. Please please please! ENABLE ENLARGING FONTS or zooming！

### 4/5 — Flash cards are broken

*2026-07-11*

I found this first as the website then as their app and I’m obsessed!!! This is my favorite tool because I can filter between dialects and if the word appears in an example. Genuinely fantastic. The app is a bit broken as trying to save a flash card or accessing them at the bottom crashes the app. I hope they fix it soon ❤️

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Fantastic for Arabic Learning!

*2025-07-27*

I’ve now been studying Arabic for five years, and I cannot express how fundamental this app has been to my linguistic development. In that time, I have studied in Jordan, Morocco, and Oman, and while the app has been a fantastic resource for learning MSA, there simply isn’t a single-stop resource comparable in terms of dialect study. I will note, the (extremely helpful) regional dialect dictionaries do seem to sometimes skew toward specific countries (e.g., North African leans Moroccan and Gulf sometimes lacks Omani words). Nevertheless, this problem is rare, and the app would deserve five stars for its MSA dictionary alone!

### 5/5 — By Iran

*2024-12-24*

It is very useful and practical, Thank you very much. By the way, could you please make the entire dictionary database offline for a fee?

### 5/5 — Dialects Fusha and tons of examples

*2023-12-25*

Such a great app, i hope they never stop growing it. It has so much potential and has been a life saver living in morocco this past year studying in the CASA program. Easily the best dictionary for MSA and dialects

### 5/5 — Useful application

*2023-02-28*

Very very good work

### 5/5 — Invaluable Resource

*2022-04-05, version 3.0.1*

Such a useful app - dictionary definitions are in depth, with notes on how words are used in different dialects. Super easy interface and just in general an amazing resource!

### 5/5 — Awesome Arabic resource

*2022-03-30, version 3.0.1*

I just wanted to thank Hossam for producing this amazing resource for us students of Arabic

### 5/5 — Levantine-English dictionary disappeared!!

*2022-03-02*

Where’d it go? That was the only dictionary I was using… now there is only a Levantine-MSA dictionary left.. please bring it back, I paid money specifically for it.

### 5/5 — Hands down best Arabic app

*2022-02-22*

Absolutely the best. Between its coverage of multiple dialects and ability to search more than one at a time I always find the word I am looking for. The new update (of the website, at least) is even more impressive. I LOVE LUGHATUNA!!

### 5/5 — Very good

*2021-04-07*

Very good. They fixed the Arabic lobby. Now is in English, I can understand everything.

### 5/5 — My go to mobile dictionary 👌

*2021-03-04*

Love the app. Love the fact you can create flashcards. If there was a way you can create decks to make it easy to review i think that would be helpful. Im beginning to build a lot of saved vocabulary. It becomes difficult to filter through them all during a study session since they cant be broken into groups. Maybe an english to arabic and arabic to english quiz for the words chosen could be very beneficial. I appreciate all of your effort. Love the app, just wanted to share what i thought would help take my experience and possibly others to the next level. I would definitely purchase a subscription or onetime payment for those study options. This is certainly my go to mobile dictionary. Great job!!!
