## What is Lull?

Lull's sleep timer doesn't just stop your audio. It starts your sleep sounds. Press play on an audiobook or podcast, set the timer, and when it ends your story gently gives way to soothing sleep sounds that play all night. Still awake? Bring your book back with a shake or your headset button, eyes closed and screen off. By day it's a full audiobook and podcast player, with CarPlay, speed, and downloads. By night it carries you to sleep.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Press play on an audiobook or podcast and set a sleep timer.
2. When it ends, your audio fades down and your sleep sounds begin. No jarring stop.
3. Still awake? A shake or a headset press brings your audio back with a fresh timer, on its own, until you're asleep.

WON'T WAKE YOU BY ACCIDENT
A shake always brings your book back in one motion. Your headset button works too, but once you've drifted off a lone press is held, not obeyed. Press again to confirm.

NEVER LOSE YOUR PLACE, ON ANY DEVICE
Your book or podcast pauses at the exact second you fall asleep while the sounds play on. Your spot, favorites, and saved sleep mixes sync through iCloud across iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, so you pick up right where you left off.

SLEEP SOUNDS, WITH OR WITHOUT A BOOK
Mix your own from over 20 sounds: ocean, rain, fireplace, fan, birdsong, a cat purr, heartbeat, brown/pink/white noise, and more. Save named mixes. Use them after your story, or on their own as a full sound machine.

IMPORT YOUR OWN AUDIOBOOKS
Add .m4b or .mp3 audiobooks from the Files app, no account, no setup. Chapters and cover art come along.

PODCASTS
Add your favorite shows by name and let an episode fade you to sleep instead of stopping cold. Lull remembers your spot in every episode. Shows hosted on your Audiobookshelf server play too, archived episodes included, synced back to your server.

FREE AUDIOBOOKS, NO ACCOUNT
Start instantly with free public-domain audiobooks from LibriVox. No sign-up.

BRING YOUR WHOLE LIBRARY (PLEX OR AUDIOBOOKSHELF)
Stream from a Plex Music library or an Audiobookshelf server, with full chapter support, and your progress syncs back to your server.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.7.4 — 2026-08-22

Land where you actually lost the thread.

Sleep detection knows when your body settled, but your mind drifts a little before that. Auto rewind can now back up past that gap, so the book picks up where you were still following it. Choose your own padding in Settings, Sleep Detection. A minute is a good place to start.

Make Lull yours: 12 themes.

Pick your look in Settings, Display & Text. Warm wood and brass, a night sky with real stars, deep space, pine forest, candlelight, a podcast studio, a typewriter page, and Paper, the one light theme for daytime reading. Auto shows your chosen theme by day and switches to pure black through your night hours. Your app icon quietly matches.

Sleep sounds, reworked from your feedback.

Volume and Mix now sit at the top, where your thumb expects them. Every sound remembers its own level, so your quiet beach stays quiet and your louder lake stays loud. Sliders no longer jump the page around, and the recorded sounds fade in smoothly.

A tidier Sleep screen.

Sleep Detection now leads the page, the microphone settings have their own section, and the long explanations moved behind help links so the controls are easy to find.

Find books faster.

Your Audiobookshelf genres and tags are now chips right under the search bar, and you can combine them to narrow things down. Same for podcasts.

Also: the goal ring turns green when you hit your sleep goal, and failed imports now tell you what went wrong instead of showing nothing.

### 1.7.2 — 2026-08-11

Fixes, most of them from your reports.

• Press play at night and it stays playing. A press now resets the sleep clock, so the app stops handing you back to sleep sounds seconds later.
• Fixed a freeze where a book showed the pause button but never played.
• Podcasts take one spot in Continue per show, not one per episode, so a binge no longer pushes your books off the shelf. Whatever is playing always shows there.
• Episodes that rolled past while you were asleep get their unplayed dots back.
• One press on your AirPods brings your book back. Headbands keep the two press protection, but a quick double tap now works.
• Unfollowing a show sticks, even with a second device.
• Sleep Insights shows your night, naps, and total at a glance.
• Podcast chapter lists work offline.

### 1.7 — 2026-08-04

Built for the plane. Your library now works with no signal at all. And a thank-you: most of Premium is now free.

• Free for everyone, starting now: Sleep Insights, night recordings, adaptive night mixing, importing your own sleep sounds, and the wake-into-your-book alarm. (Insights shows your drift-offs and naps on any iPhone; an Apple Watch adds sleep stages and a readiness score.) Premium is now simply the Apple Watch experience: sleep detection, smart nap, the silent wrist wake-up, and listening on your watch.

• Your Audiobookshelf library is there when you're offline. Books, podcasts and shows all browse normally with no connection, instead of vanishing until you found the Downloads page.
• Downloaded books and episodes play straight from the library, right where you expect them.
• Episodes roll on to the next one offline. No more silence at the end of an episode on a flight, and no more building a playlist to work around it.
• Followed RSS shows get the same treatment: they browse and roll with no signal.
• Downloads are manageable at last. Episodes group under their show, so forty episodes for a trip are one tidy row. Tap Select, tap a show to take the whole thing, and delete the lot at once. The button tells you exactly how much space you're getting back.
• Optional heads-up when your Audiobookshelf server gets something new: a new episode, a show you just added, or a new book landing in your library. Off by default, never during your night hours, and it only checks when your server is actually reachable.
• New content is found faster all round.

Also in this update

• Naps save to Apple Health only once they're certain. Clear daytime naps save a couple of hours after they end; anything borderline asks you first with a card instead of writing on its own. A one-time cleanup quietly removes any stray sleep entries earlier versions wrote.
• A caught nap can't be lost anymore. Even if the app closes between your wake and the save, the nap is remembered and saved on the next open.
• Nap lengths are exact now. The end of a nap is the moment your sounds stopped, never a guess from when you next pressed play.
• Sleep your watch recorded but couldn't score no longer counts as time awake, so a broken night reads honestly.
• Listening History is tappable. Tap any entry to jump back to that exact spot (paused, so nothing blares) or go straight to the show.
• Tap the artwork on Now Playing to open the chapter or episode list, same as the title.
• A quiet Notes pill under the title shows episode notes for a podcast or the synopsis for a book, when there are notes to show.
• Milestones actually appear now. They used to unlock silently while you slept; now they wait and greet you on the morning card. Plus new milestone tiers up to two years of nights.
• Settings reads cleaner: short descriptions, with the deep explanations one tap away under How Detection Works and About.

Thanks for listening with Lull. Sleep well.

### 1.6 — 2026-07-17

Your Audiobookshelf podcasts, smarter nights, and a sleep tracker that owns up to its numbers.

FOR YOUR AUDIOBOOKSHELF
• Podcasts from your Audiobookshelf server. The shows your server downloads now play in Lull, archived episodes included, streaming straight from your own box. Played marks and progress sync back to the server, so Lull, the ABS web app, and every other client finally agree.
• One podcast home. New All / Followed / ABS chips on the Podcasts tab. Your server shows get the full show screen: sort, filters, unplayed dots, episode search, and a now-playing indicator on the episode that's rolling.
• Episodes roll like chapters. An episode ending mid-show continues to the next, honoring each show's sort order. And if you fall asleep mid-binge, detection rewinds you back across every episode that rolled, to the spot where you actually drifted off.
• Go to Show. Jump from Now Playing straight to the show's page. Mark episodes played or unplayed from anywhere, including the player.

FOR YOUR NIGHTS
• Caught naps, even after the fact. If a nap slipped past live detection, Insights now spots it afterward from your heart rate and your listening trail, and asks before counting it. One tap resumes right where you drifted off.
• A readiness score each morning. How recovered you look against your own baselines: last night's sleep, overnight HRV, and heart-rate dip. A wellness guide for pacing your day, never a medical claim.
• Nights without the setup. No Apple sleep schedule? Lull can now build your night from its own evidence: when it caught you drifting off and when you picked your audio back up.
• Insights, reorganized. Your morning at the top, your last 14 nights right below it, one clear wellness note instead of a disclaimer under every card.
• Honest numbers for messy nights. A fragmented night now shows when you first fell asleep AND when sleep got solid, counts the wakes between, and reports real efficiency instead of an impossible 100%.
• Sleep detection that can't lose a catch. If your watch freezes or drops the connection mid-night, the drift-off is saved and delivered late, your iPhone takes over watching, and an unattended episode marathon stops at the next episode instead of playing until dawn.

AND EVERYWHERE ELSE
• CarPlay, completed. Real previous and next buttons on the car screen (chapters for books, episodes for podcasts), and your server shows in the car's podcast list.
• Lighter on your battery overnight: about half the network traffic while you sleep, and a quieter diagnostic log.

Thanks for listening with Lull. Sleep well.

### 1.5 — 2026-07-14

A mini player everywhere, one search for everything, and smarter list...

• Mini player. Your book or episode now rides along on every tab: play, skip back and forward, and tap to open the full player. While a sleep timer runs, it shows the countdown.
• Volume Leveling. Loud mid-episode ads come down fast; quiet voices come up gently. One steady volume all night. Flip it right from the player.
• Search everything. One search across all your books (every source), your shows, and their episodes. Type once, play anything.
• Smart Playlists by author. Pick one or more authors and the list pulls every matching book across Audiobookshelf, Plex, and your imported files. The editor got a full redesign, and your lists (including edits and deletes) now sync across devices.
• Book descriptions. Audiobooks from Plex and Audiobookshelf now show their synopsis on the detail screen.
• Next in series. Finish book 2 and a quiet card offers book 3. A suggestion, never an autoplay.
• Storage, visible. Downloads now show their size per item and in total, with one-tap Delete All.
• Catch up fast. Mark All Played (or "Mark Played up to Here") on any show, search inside a show's episode list, and export your subscriptions as OPML. Your shows are never locked in.
• Suggested shows. Ideas pulled from the categories you already follow. Computed on your device; nobody sees your list.
• Per-show speed. Your news show at 1.5x, your sleep stories at 1x, remembered automatically. Plus new 1.1x and 1.2x steps.
• Stream over Wi-Fi only at night. Optional: if the next episode is not downloaded and you are on cellular, sleep sounds take over instead of streaming.
• Sleep Insights, retold. A "Your week" story card, your drift-off patterns, and richer night details.
• Podcasts polish. Shows sort by Recently Updated (or name, new episodes, date added), an A-to-Z fast scroll for big collections, and autoplay-next now on by default with a per-show switch.
• A calmer Continue tab. Your in-progress books open the screen; favorites and playlists (now one shelf) scroll below them.
• Select multiple episodes. Pick a handful in any show and mark, queue, download, or add them to a playlist together.
• Listening History is tappable. Any entry opens its book or episode.
• Works with ABS Admin. Our free companion app manages your Audiobookshelf server; books hand off between the two apps in one tap.
• Cover changes on your Audiobookshelf server now show up in Lull right away.

New in Premium:
• Adapt to the room. The mic meters the room's noise level while your sounds play: a snoring partner or a loud street makes the sounds rise just enough to cover it, then settle back to exactly your set volume. Levels only, nothing is ever recorded, and a Preview button lets you hear the boost.
• Morning Catch-Up. One tap on the morning recap replays the last few minutes you heard before drifting off, slightly sped up, then settles back to normal.
• Wind-Down Routine. One tap, "Hey Siri, start my wind down", or your bedtime reminder resumes your book, loads your sound mix, and sets up the whole night.
• Night Report. Your last 30 nights on one calm page: sleep averages, bedtime steadiness, and what you actually drift off to. Share it as a PDF or keep it.

Fixes you'll feel:
• A book ending at night always hands off to your sleep sounds now, with or without sleep detection. Never silence at 2 AM.
• Bringing the book back at night is more forgiving: the confirm window for the headset button is longer, and a quick double-press always counts.
• The app icon no longer shows a thin white edge on the Home Screen.
• The pure-black night theme now covers every screen, including search and playlists.
• Sharper VoiceOver support across the new screens.

Thanks for listening with Lull. Sleep well.
