### 4/5 — Good game

*2026-01-12, version 2.0*

But is there any bug with the achievement “inventor”? I have tried countless times and solved more than 15 levels past level 40, but still cannot complete…What is the definition of start points? Are they the mechanisms that are clicked first at the beginning of a level?

### 3/5 — The play is good the story terrible and needs a disclaimer to not attempt.

*2025-10-20, version 2.0*

The light bending problem solving it nice to play, the story which is supposed to calm or relieve your focus for a bit, just angers me more as I play. The housewife/mad inventor is creating dangerous products that will no even function, hurt the people using them, or damage the area it works in…what the heck developer?
You replaced a wheel on a bike for shoes…do you know that shoes without proper pressure placement, they scuff the floor.

### 4/5 — Cannot get past level due to bug

*2025-04-24, version 2.0*

Same complaint as earlier commenter. Im only on ch 1 and I’m not sure why it said I used a hint because I did not use one. I don’t need one. I know how to play the light & mirrors game. It’s easy. Now, despite repeated rounds I still only get 1 star and can’t progress past level 9. After sailing thru 1-8. So, I can’t play the game now. Pretty sure that’s not what you intended. Really disappointed. Please fix this.

### 4/5 — Fun and challenging

*2025-02-16*

Great game with lots of thoughtful touches. I love the daily challenges and weekly mazes and having been taking my time with the main levels because it seems like no updates are coming and I don’t want the game to end. One bug I’ve noticed on the main levels is that the game only records your score for the first successful attempt. So if you only get 2 stars, you can redo the level and get 3 stars but next time you open the game, it still shows 2 stars for that level. This is frustrating because you needs certain number of stars to unlock various features. If this was fixed I’d give the game ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Another note for the designers: it’s unclear what most of the buttons on the box screen do. You can move forward and back among the images but then there’s line 3 more buttons of uncertain use. I’ve pushed them all and they don’t seem to do anything and there’s no explanation anywhere of their purpose.

**Developer response:** Hi, thank you for reporting this. We will look into it!

### 5/5 — Plz update this game I love! 🙏

*2024-12-24, version 2.0*

PLEEEEEEZE UPDATE!! 🙏🙏🙏
I certainly enjoy the daily challenges, but I’m dying for more levels! I’ve played all 265 levels 4 or 5 x’s.
Is there a similar game out there?!

### 2/5 — Needs improvement

*2024-11-10, version 2.0*

The puzzles are fun and every one is different making it continually challenging. However, the storytelling is awful and looking at her inventions close up in 3D (every 180-ish puzzles) after already seeing them in the pictures/narration is lame. One suggestion: show the invention first, then slowly build up to what it is, leaving people to try to figure it out with each clue they earn through completing puzzles and the resulting pictures/storytelling (obviously the storytelling would have to be redone to be more cryptic for this to work). Or put some kind of murder mystery behind it, giving clues every 180-ish puzzles? Cheers for the fun puzzles though.

### 5/5 — So good

*2024-09-18, version 2.0*

So good

### 5/5 — A work of art rather than a beautiful game.

*2024-08-11, version 2.0*

The aesthetics are just amazing, although the puzzles could be harder, I’m overall impressed by lumen.

### 2/5 — Repetitive, too easy

*2024-08-06, version 2.0*

Whilst Lumen looks nice, with flashy graphics and visual effects, it is simply boring. Every level is the same, by which I mean you simply have to rotate mirrors on a board until you light things up. It's too easy, there's no sense of progression, and the faux steampunk back story is frankly embarrassing. And it eats more than half a gigabyte of your storage.

### 4/5 — Ideas for the game

*2024-08-03, version 2.0*

Add a feature that lets you create your own custom level or invention once you get to level 150 or 100. Add a feature that lets you customize the room you are in with furniture and stuff(the room with the box) Make a lumen 2 or lumen online where you and your friends can compete or try to beat a level together. Make a feature where you can share levels that you make with other players. I hope you add my ideas to your game.

### 5/5 — Big fan of this beautiful game

*2024-07-18, version 2.0*

The attention to detail is amazing. The puzzles are challenging. A gorgeous game that’s fun to play and no in app purchases. Awesome

### 5/5 — good

*2024-07-09, version 2.0*

good

### 4/5 — A good game but the plot lets it down

*2024-07-07, version 2.0*

So let’s get the pros out of the way first; This is a good game with challenging puzzles, no sharp increases in difficulty and no unnecessary hand holding. There are no obvious pay to win elements shoehorned in and the game plays smoothly. I have to give big props to the devs for allowing players to opt out of analytics, that’s something all developers should do.

But the big con to the game is the plot. It feels forced and unnecessary, cutscenes slow down progression, and it just isn’t interesting. The voice actor sounds disinterested and unenthusiastic, the plot is nonsensical. There are moments when it’s clear that there should be excitement in the voice of the VA, but it’s delivered in a monotone, and it just comes off as depressing.

The game plays well and it could exist and be enjoyable entirely without any story element to the gameplay at all, it feels like it didn’t need to be there and that it was just shoehorned in.

Add that to the late 1800’s early 1900’s aesthetic that was out of date 10 years ago too and it weighs the game down.

I’d have been happy if there were a menu option to turn the plot off entirely. The other issue is that the interface isn’t very intuitive. I had to do a bit of a search just to find where the settings are. The game pushes you directly into gameplay, so you have to backtrack a bit to find the menu.

Overall though this is a very good game, the devs did a great job on the gameplay and puzzle elements and I’d recommend it for that alone. It’s just unfortunate that the plot isn’t enjoyable to me and lets it down.

### 5/5 — Hypnotic

*2024-05-07, version 2.0*

I found that this game drew me in on its own. It felt while I was observing and exploring the game, another part of my brain was solving the puzzles - even before my conscious mind caught on that the puzzle was being solved. It reminded me of the sort of the tinkering experience I would have as a child. As I would be interacting with a toy it became even more interesting the more I engaged with it.

### 5/5 — A More Recent Review

*2024-04-14*

I was bored on my computer and chose to download this game, I have currently only played the first chapter before having to pause, after the pause I looked at the reviews hating on the game, which I didn't agree with, I then saw that the date of these coments were from 3 years ago and decided to write a more recent review. A lot of the reviews talked about a glitchy mouse and/or poor resolution, I had none of which (albeit I'm on a iMac 24-inch), so I'm saying good on the developers for getting that fixed! This is a very entertaining puzzel game with an entertaining story line and fun visuals. Definitly recomed if you want to mindlessly play a game or dive into the story of how the creator of the box made and thought up her cool inventions.

**Developer response:** Hello EtherealBagels! Thank you for this wonderful review.:)

### 5/5 — Sooooo good

*2024-04-13, version 2.0*

10/10 would recommend

### 4/5 — Perfect for visionOS (any plans?)

*2024-04-05, version 2.0*

After seeing the amazing graphics on the Game Room app in visionOS, this game seems like it would be perfect for that platform. Are there any plans to release a visionOS version? Looks like it hasn’t been updated in a year.

Please bring it to visionOS!!

### 3/5 — Not very great

*2024-01-09, version 2.0*

Just completed all 285 levels and then no more levels, wouldn’t take me to level 286, this game seems so easy and mostly boring, the daily challenges are really hard that there really no purpose for them, same goes with weekly challenges to, no purpose for weekly challenges as well.

### 5/5 — Ignore the karens

*2024-01-03, version 2.0*

The game is amazing. Key word, GAME. Not real life. People need to stop injecting woke PC into every nook and cranny of the world. Its toxic and quite frankly disgustingly boring. To the game devs, top notch, seriously. Make games YOU enjoy making without conforming to karen’s woke criticisms.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Adios broke. How do I fix it?

*2025-04-16, version 2.0*

No audio comes out when you start the game I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling any other suggestions?

### 1/5 — Cool game No Sound!

*2022-12-26, version 2.0*

Downloaded the game to my iPhone. No sound. No reason why no sound. What’s the point?

### 1/5 — Startup bug still exists

*2022-05-17, version 1.71*

This app won’t start up on my iPad Pro 9.7 (original) or an iPad (from a couple years ago). I did get it to start once, but I had to remove all the apps from the background, reboot, and then load the game twice after if failed the first time.

Game looks interesting, but I can’t close out of every app and reboot every time I want to play it.

### 1/5 — Game has its attractions… but no legs

*2022-05-04, version 1.71*

This is my 3rd or 4th review. Every time I have reviewed, I’ve dropped a star. I initially wrote a positive review to express support for the weird plot.

Problem is that developers never really thought through daily game play after player solved all puzzles. As I wrote earlier, the leaderboards end up reflecting ONLY how long a player has been playing.

If a player is at top of leaderboard, it only means they started playing when the game was first released and have continued to play daily. If you can call getting into a game early on, and then being diligent about never missing a day, then yeah, the player R.V.Rain is really skilled. In truth it’s probably a sock puppet account for the QA team at Lumen’s developers.

Why I dropped the final star is now the truth has dawned on me: the daily puzzles are not even new, Lykke Studios is not providing new content every day. I am starting to notice that I am solving puzzles I’ve already worked on before!

What this means is that to get high on the leaderboards, you also have to be OCD, and not really care that you are working on puzzles you have already solved before.

I would guess anyone who enjoys a game like this is a bit OCD, but that does not mean you actually want compete solely on how OCD you really are.

I think it is pretty sad that Lykke Studios has turned into a rent-taker like every other company on the internet. Get your product out there, then stop working and collect the pennies as they trickle in by the thousands.

Fix the leaderboard mess, implement some of the ideas from my previous reviews, and start writing new content for players who are paying money every month. Heck in the short term you can cheat and just release mirror images of puzzles, even I probably would not have noticed if you had done that from the beginning (but now I would)

I will probably bump my lightbulb total to a round number like 1000, and then join the “rainfall” of players who have figured out what I have described, and stopped playing. (By rainfall, I mean the players I pass on my way up the leaderboard. They have stopped playing, and slowly their ranking is going down as stubborn players like me continue playing daily)

### 1/5 — Will not load properly,

*2022-02-10, version 1.71*

I downloaded this yesterday, I’ve been able to play a bit but today it doesn’t load just a black screen before it closes down

### 1/5 — Crashes on startup

*2021-11-19, version 1.7*

I’d like to play this game but it won’t start. I downloaded it and it crashed on startup. Deleted app and downloaded again. Same result. Restarted iPad. Still no go.

### 1/5 — I actually wanted to play this game

*2021-11-04, version 1.7*

I was looking through the Apple Arcade store and I saw this. It looked intriguing so I decided to download the game to see how it was. It had fully downloaded and so I opened up the app to a black screen and the Apple Arcade sound but it just quit out of no where. It’s not letting me get past the Apple Arcade intro and allowing me to play. It’s frustrating me and I’m disappointed.

### 1/5 — Pretty Pointless

*2021-02-22, version 1.3*

Pointless, repetitive, boring . . .

This would be just one element in a game like The Room. It would have a difficulty probably around the level 20 mark and solving it would produce an item which was needed somewhere else in the much larger game.

I think you are just hammering one concept to death rather than putting a decent game round it.

### 1/5 — Repetitive

*2021-02-12, version 1.3*

The game is beautiful, yes, but easy and repetitive. You get bored very quickly. Also, I really don’t get the message behind the story line. This woman is really proud of her domestic inventions? Not only is it strange but isn’t it a little...how can I put this, out of touch?

### 1/5 — Absurdly Easy

*2021-02-10*

Aesthetic is very nice, with a mildly interesting plot.

Now I will talk about the puzzles. Firstly, they are extremely easy. It’s almost mindless. I have already made it up to level 85, yet I still barely have to use a single brain cell when solving them. More challenge would be welcome, especially since this is a puzzle game. Secondly, the new mechanics are introduced far too slow. Every 10 levels a new mechanic is introduced (e.g. double-sided mirror, beam splitter, blocker). The problem with this is that a mechanic only takes at most 2-3 levels at most to master, so the next 7-8 levels after feel painfully easy and repetitive. Lastly, the stars. In each level, there are 3 stars you can collect. However, they are not a requirement. They should be though, because you literally have to try to not collect them to not get 3 stars.

In conclusion, I would recommend this to a child ages 8 and below. I believe many 8 year olds would be entertained and possibly challenged by this game. But if you are anything older than that, you should give this game a pass. Beating 85 levels of this game for me was about as entertaining as playing 85 slow games of tic-tac-toe.

**Developer response:** Hello cronneberg! Thank you for such a detailed feedback. Highly appreciated.
