### 2/5 — More and more features get locked, as the app is devolving over time

*2026-04-04*

How is it even possible, that I paid 30€ for this app and it STILL has massive amounts of locked content? Like how much money do you want me to spend for functionality that other FREE Apps also provide.

Nearly all of the lists of objects, more detailed information and means of setting up a camera operation (and much more) are LOCKED behind a monthly subscription, what did I even pay for in the first place?

It is a good app all in all, but over time more and more features get limited, I genuinely do not see any real arguments for this app anymore, when many free apps include the same features. It used to be much better, all these relevant features got locked in retrospect, so the app is literally devolving. It has gotten to the point where it is annoying to use, as the app itself is not enough anymore and one needs external information.

It‘s honestly quite sad, I originally bought it, because it truely was better than its competitors. Nowadays, just get another alternative that does not decrease in quality.

**Developer response:** Hi there, thank you for your review. I completely understand your frustration, but it looks like there has been a mix-up with the apps!

Luminos and Luminos Pro are actually two completely separate apps. The €30 you paid was for the original Luminos, which is a one-time purchase with no subscription. It sounds like you might have accidentally downloaded my other app, Luminos Pro, which uses a subscription model for its advanced features.

I assure you I never retroactively lock features. If you delete this app and reinstall the original Luminos from your App Store purchase history, you will find that all the features you originally paid for are still there and fully accessible, no subscription required.

Please feel free to email me at support@wobbleworks.com if you need help finding your original purchase!

### 5/5 — Fantastic, wish I got it sooner

*2025-08-21*

App is fantastic, especially when using to control a telescope. Settings up to control my AP mount took 2 seconds and worked perfectly. UI is also great

### 2/5 — Older version

*2025-07-17*

Hi im curious if i can get an older version of the app thanx

**Developer response:** Apple controls availability and distribution of apps and it's not possible for me to provide an old version to customers, sorry.

### 5/5 — Hooray for Luminos!

*2025-07-01*

Lifetime member and worth every cent!
As an avid astronomy buff, I have tried just about all of the sky map apps over the last decade or so and this is still my favorite and just keeps getting better. So easy to find what I am looking for without having to repeatedly bring up multiple menus, etc..
This latest update addressed a small oversight in past versions; we now have distances for globular clusters.
CheerZ!

### 5/5 — Does it all with grace and elegance

*2025-05-18*

I’ve been a user of the original Luminos for many years and finally made the jump to pro. I particularly like the today planner and seeing imaging/viewing sizes with my various equipment & camera combinations. The new object elevation/ weather chart is intuitive and helpful. I’m happy to help support the developers of this great product.

### 5/5 — Parfait

*2024-09-06*

Très belle et complète application

### 2/5 — Nach Update meine Notizen weg..

*2024-07-12*

12. Juli

📢 HALLO ENTWICKLER!!
(Bisher vom Entwickler keinerlei Reaktion)

### 5/5 — Would like to see

*2024-06-09*

Great app that I use with my 12” dob. Would love to see the ability to add pics of the places viewed and store it in a list. That ability may be there but haven’t found it yet…

### 5/5 — Amazing and wonderful

*2024-04-24*

If you are looking for an astronomy app, just give a try to Luminos Pro. This is the most complete astronomy app you can get. It is reliable, precise, beautiful and a joy to use. Owner here since 2012. No regrets. Thanks to John Stephen who does a tremendous job in developing and maintaining this wonderful app.

### 5/5 — Best App, Hands Down!

*2024-03-28*

This app is phenomenal. Smooth and slick interface and design that is VERY rare to see in most astronomy apps today with this amount of robust features.

Regardless if you have casual interest in just pointing your phone at the sky to see what’s up there at night or your an avid astronomer with a telescope who does visual and / or imaging this app serves both categories equally well!

This type of app / interface should set the example for others! Great work and in astronomy this is so rare to say but it’s actually a fair AND affordable price! Great work!

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2024-02-09*

This is by far the best astronomy app and the best app overall. It’s well thought out and maintained with a beautiful UI. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Luminous Pro

*2023-10-25*

It is understandable phenomenal!

### 5/5 — Eine Astronomie-Anwendung der Superlative …

*2023-06-23*

- John

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Subscriptions for features I paid for

*2025-12-19*

Really? I bought Luminos because it wasn’t a subscription. Now features I paid for are subscription only. I fully agree with the other reviewers, this is terrible customer service and deceptive. I paid good money for this app because it had extensive features for scope control. Now I find that those features which I paif for are locked behind a paywall? To the developers: this is thievery, you stole our money and broke our promises. Reading your responses to other reviewers, I can say: I wish I never paid you money; you call the truth and concerns of your customers ‘lies.’ I hope you lose all your customers, never get a single $ for your crooked subscriptions, and go out of business.

**Developer response:** Luminos Pro is a separate app and has always been based on subscriptions. You're thinking of Luminos, which is also here on the app store and I've kept it updated so it still works with the current versions of iOS.

### 1/5 — Major Bug

*2025-03-24*

For all its promised databases, the program fails to show any deep sky objects despite them all being turned on with labels. Not one shows up. Do they require a paid subscription to see?

**Developer response:** That problem was caused by a bug and has been fixed so DSOs are visible in the free version again. I also added the Caldwell and Herschel catalogs to the free version so it's a little more useful.

### 1/5 — 🙈

*2025-03-12, version 12.2*

### 1/5 — ONLY FOR IOS 18 NOW?! MAKE FOR IT IOS 16 OR I TAKE THIS DOWN

*2025-03-11*

STUPID THING GO DO IM ON IOS 16 MAKE IT COMPATIBLE WITH IOS 16

**Developer response:** I'm sorry that I can’t continue supporting iOS 16. Luminos Pro now relies on features that aren’t available before iOS 18. In particular, Apple increased the on-demand resource size limits in newer iOS versions, which allows me to offer installations with up to one billion Gaia DR3 stars. If I target iOS 16, the app exceeds the older limit and is rejected by Apple.

### 1/5 — Después de pagar te meten suscripciones

*2025-03-04, version 12.1*

### 1/5 — Paid version of Luminos 9

*2023-05-16*

I paid for a version of Luminos 9 still have the same phone and operating system and now it no longer works which I feel is pretty lame especially after paying for it. All of this subscription stuff is nothing but a chincy way of getting constant money from people. I used to use the app all of the time and now I can’t without paying for a subscription. To me that is lame and I am sad that you took that route. Now I have a useless app that just crashes whenever I start it. Boo to that what a shame that you made such a great app and now I can’t even use it.... it’s a sad day for me and my daughter at least let my paid app still work... that makes no sense to me. Last thing I need is to be paying a subscription for something. It’s pretty lame that I can spend money on a great app and now I can’t even use it anymore. I feel like I got ripped off.

**Developer response:** Hello there! I'd like to help you with updating Luminos 9. Although it's no longer available for sale in the App Store, it's still fully functional. To update it, please follow these steps:

1. Open the App Store on your device.
2. Go to your App Store account and open the "Purchased Apps" list.
3. Search for "Luminos" in your purchased apps.
4. Once you find it, select it to initiate the update process.

Please note that you might need to delete the old copy of the app before you can install the updated version from your "Purchased" list. Keep that in mind as you proceed.

It can still be installed on all of your devices and it still supports Family Sharing so your spouse and kids can also install it, but they have to look in your purchased apps list to find it because I no longer offer it for sale in the App Store.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at support@wobbleworks.com. I'm more than happy to assist you. Please note that I don't often monitor reviews for support questions, so it's faster to contact me directly via email for a faster response.

Thank you for using Luminos, - John

### 1/5 — Luminos9

*2023-05-03*

I purchase luminos9 presents the app is not available .how to use luminos9

**Developer response:** Hello there! To locate and install Luminos 9, please follow these steps:

1. Open the App Store and access your account.
2. Look for the "Purchased" apps list.
3. You can use the search box within the "Purchased" section to search for "Luminos." Please note that the list is sorted by date, which can make it challenging to find specific apps.
4. Once you find Luminos 9, you'll be able to install the latest version. Rest assured, the app was updated just a couple of weeks ago.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at support@wobbleworks.com. I'm here to assist you. It's important to note that I don't frequently monitor reviews for support questions, so reaching out via email will provide a faster response.

Thank you for being a Luminos user, and I hope you enjoy the updated version.

Best regards,
John

### 1/5 — A trap that has no name.

*2022-07-16, version 10.2.1*

What you have done has no name. All my watch lists have disappeared and now you have to pay again, with a monthly or annual subscription. In addition, monthly or annual subscription for each of its main features. Not only are they satisfied with a general annual subscription, but for each main option for every observer you have to make a subscription. Deleted the previous subscription and deleted the app for life. Stay away from this app. I recommend that you do not download it.

### 1/5 — A trap

*2022-05-27, version 10.1.1*

Totally agree with other reviewers on here. This app is nothing but a complete money grab and leaves me with a very bad taste towards this company. I paid 35€ for the previous Luminos app and to release this is a complete rip off. Will be searching for a replacement app from a different developer.

### 1/5 — Customer concerns and developer response

*2021-12-29*

I bought Luminos and now the developer is switching to a subscription model. I understand a developer wanting a continuing revenue stream, but moving purchased features behind a paywall is not fair. We paid to purchase this app and are now being told that the features we had contracted for are now only available if you subscribe and pay continuously. It would be understandable if the developer was providing only new features behind the subscription paywall, but that is not what is happening here. Features like “orbit” and “land” that were included in our original purchase are moving them behind the subscription paywall. That is unacceptable. Purchasers of Luminos should give the new app one star ratings until the developers address these issues. Edited - Response to developer response. John, what does it mean to you when someone says “This is an old version of Luminos and it will be discontinued in 2023. This app is being replaced by Luminos Pro”? To me that means Luminos is being discontinued and Luminos Pro is replacing it. That looks like plain English to me, but it looks like a lie to you. In the new app that is replacing Luminos, orbit and land are behind the subscription paywall. If Luminos is being discontinued and Luminos Pro is replacing it, doesn’t that mean preexisting features that users paid for are now behind the subscription paywall? Before you say “but you can still use Luminos”, I’d ask you how long it will be before Luminos is out of date and no longer works on iOS? Maybe a few years? The point is, you are being disingenuous when you say Luminos will still work. You are no longer supporting it and at some point, it will fail. At that point, customers who bought Luminos would have to pay a subscription to get the same features in Luminos Pro. As I noted above, I’m not against a subscription model. I would likely subscribe to Luminos Pro. But moving features that customers paid for in Luminos behind a paywall in Luminos Pro is not fair. Did you consider putting orbit and land for bodies outside of the Solar System behind the paywall and leaving the Solar System as it is in Luminos? I can see you’ve worked hard on Luminos and to my mind, your continued work is worth a subscription. But putting features from the original app behind the paywall on the replacement app is not fair and I think you know that. On a side note, John if this is your business, act like it. I wrote a review pointing out that Luminos customers paid for a product that you are discontinuing and that you’ve moved features like orbit and land behind the subscription paywall in Luminos Pro, the product you are replacing Luminos with. Instead of engaging with my legitimate concerns like an adult, you threw a fit. People read these reviews and you come across as a jerk in your response. Your app and I suspect you are better than this. Edited - Response to the developer’s second response. John, it is unclear to me why you called me a liar in your first response, saying that Luminos is “supported and all the features I put in it are still working” and that “Nothing in the old app was moved behind a paywall” but then you say in your second response that “I don’t owe you an app for life” with the App Store Luminos page saying that “This is an old version of Luminos and it will be discontinued in 2023. This app is being replaced by Luminos Pro”. Instead of engaging with my question, you simply called me a liar again. Your own words indicate that I am not lying. Luminos will be discontinued. Luminos Pro will replace it. Features that were included in Luminos, the app that is being discontinued, are behind the subscription paywall in Luminos Pro, the app that is replacing it. Again, I will ask: have you considered putting orbit and land for bodies outside of the Solar System behind the paywall and leaving the Solar System as it is in Luminos? Would you please engage with my concerns instead of just calling names? As I noted above you’ve worked hard on Luminos and to my mind, your continued work is worth a subscription, but I am concerned that you’ve moved features that came included in the purchase price of Luminos, behind the paywall on Luminos Pro. Would you rather conduct this conversation by email rather than in public? I am concerned that your public responses will give a bad impression of yourself and the great work you’ve done with Luminos and the level of customer support that can be expected with Luminos Pro. Edited - Response to the developer’s third response. John, I politely asked if you would rather continue this conversation in private with a view towards removing this review from Luminos Pro’s page in the App Store. Rather than engaging in a civil conversation like adults, you continue to call me a liar who expects to be coddled. All that despite my explaining in initial review and each of the subsequent edits that I don’t disagree with your subscription model. It took you, three responses to explain that you were planning on updating Luminos through iOS 16? Thank you for finally addressing that issue. Could you have done so in your first response instead of calling me a liar? Instead of engaging with me as a responsible business owner, you insist on being rude and condescending to a paying customer. I didn’t ask you to “fawn” over me. I asked legitimate questions and you responded with invective like a petulant child and until your most recent response, no explanation. I wish you the best of luck with Luminos Pro, but in view of your continuing rudeness, I’m content to end this conversation with you and leave this review here with your responses. If you expect customers to enter into a continuing financial relationship with you, it is fair that they get to see the kind of person that they will have to deal with, if any issue arises. Clear skies and best wishes.

Edited - The developer is lying. He removed his rude responses that avoided most of my questions. Be careful who you trust with your money.

**Developer response:** This reviewer is lying and there is no bait-and-switch. The reviewer believes that because they bought the previous app that they should get all the same features in this one for free. You can find the truth about what’s happening to the previous version at https://wobbleworks.com/luminos

### 5/5 — The best astronomy app

*2026-08-27*

Dear developers, I’ve tried lots of astronomy apps, but Luminos Pro is by far the best. That’s why I decided to buy the lifetime pass. Thank you very much for all your hard work, and I look forward to seeing what you develop next.

### 5/5 — Das beste Planetariumprogramm

*2026-06-24*

### 5/5 — Best Planetarium App Ever

*2026-06-18*

I've been using this app for years and I just love it. It has everything you can imagine and much more and it is even constantly growing. I've tried several other apps on iPad and PC, but this one is truly the very best. Everything works greatly and very user friendly. And if a problem ever arises out of the millions of possibilities: a quick email to John and the problem will be solved. Thank you for this wonderful app, your excellent service and your knowledge.

### 5/5 — No longer seems to be supported.

*2026-06-10*

Revised back to five stars. My thanks to dev for prompt, clear response. Leaving for prompt customer service kudos.

Old:Six months no fixes. Lifetime memberships always feel like a trap. Satellite updates don’t work like they used to.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. I understand your frustration about the recent gap in updates. I've been working on significant improvements behind the scenes, and I'm committed to supporting Luminos Pro long-term. The satellite issue is because some categories of Celestrak data feeds are now obsolete and no longer return data. Turn them off for now in Luminos Pro (swipe left to delete one), and in the next update in a couple of weeks they will be gone, plus there are new Celestrak categories that I've added support for.

Best regards,

John Stephen
Author of Luminos Pro

### 5/5 — Amazing, hands down!

*2026-03-27*

I have wanted UY Scuti to get some recognition since it was the largest star once, and it’s in this app! thanks a lot! I used Luminos 9 since I was little, but this may be better than what I had back then! It has a boatload of my favorite stars + ability to orbit them!

### 5/5 — Luminos pro

*2026-01-21*

Please add a discount for lifetime licence.

### 5/5 — Best Skymap out there!

*2025-09-16*

I’m an astrophotographer and I absolutely love Luminos Pro. Half the time I use it just to wander around the sky — the map is so smooth and detailed. The other half, it’s helping me plan my next imaging target with really solid visibility charts and object info.

I’ve tried pretty much every astronomy app out there, and this one just feels a cut above. It’s feature-packed but never clunky, and everything runs buttery smooth. I liked it so much I went straight for the lifetime pass instead of the subscription.

The only thing that would make it even better (and this definitely not a deal-breaker) would be the ability to transfer FOV and camera rotation into the NINA framing wizard in real time — maybe by emulating the relevant parts of the Stellarium RemoteControl plugin’s HTTP API. That kind of integration would take it from amazing to unbeatable.

If you’re into astronomy or astrophotography, this is hands down the best skymap experience IMHO.
