### 5/5 — Best planetarium program

*2023-03-25, version 9.11.4*

Luminos is the primary planetarium program for all my astronomy and astrophotography planning and observing. Excellent program for novice and advanced astronomy enthusiasts.

### 5/5 — The best astronomy app on iOS

*2022-06-22*

Update: Unfortunately, with the move to a subscription based model, I will not be continuing to use this app. If you use it every week, that might work for you, but not for an occasional user. I’m disappointed, but oh well.

—————

This is hands down the BEST astronomy app on iOS. It might have the flashiest UI, or glittering effects, but it's still darn pretty and is the most feature packed app of its kind. I've bought almost all of them, including Redshift and Distant Suns, but this one is the only one that remains on my phone. To the devs, thank you. Sincerely. To everyone else, you'd be doing yourself a disservice to pass this one up.

### 5/5 — Absolutely Brilliant!

*2022-06-21*

I’m a complete novice when it comes to Astronomy. However, since purchasing this app a week ago, I have learnt so much and I believe I have found a new interest which I intend to pursue. It’s certainly the best £29 I have spent!

### 4/5 — Potential

*2022-05-28, version 9.9.12*

Has potential to be cool if I could figure out the app. Someone please help me.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2022-04-17, version 9.9.12*

Had this app for as long as I can remember. I use for causal observation, and is one reason I bought a telescope. I was a little disappointed right after I bought the scope as the ecliptic was backward and the tile was off but deleted and reinstalled works great again.

### 5/5 — The app rock

*2022-01-16*

It just works

### 5/5 — Bis jetzt sehr gut, aber als Pro im Abo :-(

*2021-12-09*

Als Nutzer bin ich bis jetzt sehr zufrieden!
Aber da ich kein Freund von Abo Software bin,
werde ich mich leider von Luminos verabschieden
müssen, schade!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Great app

*2025-09-15, version 9.12.2*

I have had this since it came out now that your subscription model is out why didn’t our purchase of the frugal count that’s why the two apps subscription is killing the App Store you were supported by those of us who chose it now it won’t update launches or the brightest. Guess we have to pay more.

### 1/5 — Update broke it

*2025-03-02, version 9.11.10*

Latest update broke best feature that allowed you to point your device at the sky and see a depiction of the sky and then track changes as you move your device. Now it no longer tracks and is hard to get it to update if at all.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2024-09-29, version 9.11.8*

When you went to subscription model you forgot us I’ve had this for years.

### 1/5 — The best

*2022-07-09*

The only app you need

### 1/5 — Bait and Switch

*2022-01-03, version 9.9.12*

This is a good app. However, I bought it (it wasn’t cheap) because the developer said in his description that people shouldn’t have to constantly pay to upgrade. Now he’s going to a monthly fee system. That’s changing the rules in the middle of the game. I honestly feel like he lied and I will be moving to another app. There’s lots of really good astronomy apps to use.

The developer has said he doesn’t owe anyone an app for life, but he sold the app with the assurance of continued support. I guess personal integrity isn’t as important as cash flow.

### 1/5 — Bait and switch

*2021-12-19, version 9.9.12*

I paid for Luminos and now the developer is switching to a subscription model. I understand a developer wanting a continuing revenue stream, but this developer is moving features behind the paywall that I along with every other purchaser of Luminos already paid for already.

That is not fair.

We paid to purchase this app and are now being told “whoops the features you contracted for are now only available if you subscribe and pay continuously”. It would be understandable if the developer was providing only new features behind the subscription paywall, but that is not what is happening here. The developer is taking features like “orbit” and “land” that were included in our original purchase, and moving them behind the subscription paywall.

That is unacceptable.

Everyone who purchased Luminos should give the new app one star ratings until the developers rectify these issues.

### 1/5 — Arnaque en cours

*2021-12-14*

Luminos était une application formidable, à prix fixe, qui va être simplement renommée en Luminos Pro avec un abonnement obligatoire. C’est bien triste…

### 1/5 — Useless

*2021-08-01, version 9.9.7*

Compass and gyro function, which they appear to call motion tracking, doesn’t work. I point it at the sky, and it doesn't orient itself to the actual starfield in the sky. Waste of money

### 1/5 — What Happened?

*2021-06-10, version 9.9.7*

I used to move my phone across the sky and see the stars and planets. Now I move my phone and nothing. What happened to this app?

### 1/5 — Much slower than competing products

*2020-07-23, version 9.8.4*

Takes up to 1 minute to determine location, motion, etc. Downloaded both Stellarium and GoSkyWatch - which both were immediately responsive. This purchased app will be deleted ASAP.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The best planetarium

*2025-08-18*

I have been using this app for many years. With it you don’t need any other mobile app for astronomy

### 5/5 — It’s the best for looking at stars when it’s cloudy!

*2025-01-28*

I love how you can move it when looking up to see all the constellations and planets through clouds.I recommend to people whole heartedly to get this app!

### 5/5 — Disappointed also

*2024-10-08*

Bought the app on here years ago and cannot use it the way I used to pointing my phone or iPad at the sky anymore. Terrible to do to already paid up customers. AT LEAST let the people that already paid under that understanding not have to grandfather into the subscription. We all paid and helped you get where you’ve gotten with this app.

### 5/5 — Great

*2024-07-29, version 9.11.8*

I have had this since my first IPad2. Definitely the best astronomy app out there. Great updates.

### 5/5 — Fantastic tool

*2024-02-23, version 9.11.8*

Love it

### 5/5 — Best astronomy app on the market

*2023-12-04, version 9.11.7*

I am always amazed at the information I get from this app. Very well written.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2023-11-23*

This app, regardless of where you are professional or part-time astronomer, even just a stargazer this is without a doubt the best app that is ever been on the market been using this for over the last five years. Would recommend this to anyone the information supplied and viewable using the app might as well come straight out of a textbook. I’m no expert but it is spot on every time and I am currently living in the southern hemisphere and have used it also on holidays while in Europe in the northern hemisphere truly is amazing.👍🙏

### 5/5 — Great

*2023-07-14, version 9.11.5*

Great

### 5/5 — A Short Update

*2023-04-07, version 9.11.4*

Here are some things for a update 1. Add historical constellations also 2. Add nations adding nations when we search it up we can see the borders 3. Add exoplanets it’s a great idea to add those. I rate this a 5/5 because it’s a good astronomical app

### 5/5 — Very nice

*2023-04-05*

The watch app is especially fun to use. I will be getting my first motorised telescope soon because of this app.
