### 2/5 — Problem Report

*2024-10-30, version 3.2.0*

The app has become unusable.
iPhone: Says it can not connect to the internet yo download the content.

iPad: The app purchase will not go away even though I have made and renewed the purchase.

### 2/5 — needs Dark Mode (app does not obey Smart Invert)

*2023-10-01, version 3.2.0*

Please implement an option for Dark Mode in this app – for people with vision challenges, this is an accessibility issue, not just a visual preference. Thanks!

Also, it would be great if the "Language" section in settings provided an option for the earlier 1943/1965 English translation, to complement the 1986 English text in the current version.

Finally, the “Data Used to Track You” section is rather concerning. Why does this app work so hard to track the user, who may be a child?

### 2/5 — Unhappy.

*2023-07-09, version 3.1.6*

Now I don’t usually leave reviews but this one just rubbed me wrong. Really un-happy with my app experience and do not think it’s biblical to sell it. It just reminds me a lot of what Paul wrote to the Corinthians. Can’t remember where but it’s early on In 2 Corinthians and he emphasizes not being peddlers of God’s word, but out of sincerity. Now I understand if it’s to cover the cost of running an app since those are expensive. But couldn’t they just put a donate button within the app. Other than that great user friendly interface.

### 3/5 — Disappointed

*2022-08-11, version 3.1.6*

The paywall is very unfortunate. Monetizing on this seems tacky.

### 4/5 — helpful but

*2022-06-13, version 3.1.6*

it has lots of information but…..only if you get the upgrade for $8 so i. am waiting to see of they want more money ??

### 3/5 — Paywall isn’t a good look

*2022-03-14, version 3.1.6*

It’s not too expensive to pay for the whole app, but then why not make the whole app that way? Why give the out the bare minimum for free? It’s frustrating that the reason to download the app - the explanations to the catechism - isn’t freely available.
This, among other things, makes it seem like mammon is high on CPH’s priority list, unfortunately

### 2/5 — Can’t even purchase the explanation

*2021-10-28, version 3.1.6*

For what it’s worth, this app gets the job done for the most part if you need a quick look at the catechism. But the point of downloading it myself was so I could have a digital version with explanation, and I can’t even purchase it even if I wanted…

### 2/5 — Ok

*2021-05-02, version 3.1.6*

This app is good, but you have to pay money to see the explanations. The explanation of God’s word should be free to everyone.

### 4/5 — Good app

*2020-11-08, version 3.1.6*

I really like the app... it is great to have access to this on the go. But why would you have the purchase option blocking access to the Means of Grace section? Of all sections, why block that... seems like a sales strategy John Tetzel would have designed 😅.

### 2/5 — Formerly clean design now messy and unattractive

*2019-08-19, version 3.1.3*

What was previously a clean, straightforward, attractive, and appealing presentation of Luther’s Small Catechism now has much less attractive typography and explanation “inserts” throughout. The simplicity of Luther’s text has been lost for the sake of the explanation. Too bad.

### 2/5 — Crashes

*2019-08-17, version 3.1.3*

I loved this app but now it crashes every time I click on it

### 2/5 — Problem with languages

*2016-07-28, version 3.0.2*

Once I switched to German, I found the only way back to English was to uninstall/reinstall!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Charging for this?

*2026-03-05, version 4.0.0*

CPH makes plenty of money and the cost to maintain something like this is incredibly small all things considered. That you’d have any cost associated with this at all for the explanations is pretty wicked. If you want to charge for extensive commentaries on things etc whatever but this is the most basic catechism and an essential tool for bringing people to the faith.

### 1/5 — Modern versions are not good.

*2026-02-05, version 4.0.0*

The idea is good but modern versions leave out much of the original meaning, water down parts of the Christian faith and can be very deceptive.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2024-08-13, version 3.2.0*

…to me since I have diminished eyesight. The slide to size the font doesn’t make any difference. The slider moves, but has no effect. Very disappointed.

### 1/5 — Misleading

*2024-08-11, version 3.2.0*

They charge for the “most recent” edition. They give for free only a tiny bit. Details & going deeper requires paying. That is not mentioned in their marketing materials & feels insincere & scammy. Be better, Concordia. At minimum be upfront & honest about your product. This was a quick deletion after seeing its lack of usefulness

### 1/5 — Flip the tables in the temple

*2024-05-26, version 3.2.0*

God’s grace through the sacrifice of his only son is free… this app is not. Get behind me satan, for you are causing these little ones to stumble!

### 1/5 — $7.99

*2024-01-16, version 3.2.0*

I am very disappointed in our church that you cannot navigate parts of the Catechism without paying concordia publishing house $7.99. It shows me what is most important. Not education and understanding, but making a quick buck.

### 1/5 — App keeps crashing on my iPad

*2021-10-24, version 3.1.6*

This app works on my iPhone but keeps crashing on my iPad Pro
Please fix.

### 1/5 — CPH Crash

*2020-09-30, version 3.1.5*

The app instantly crashes upon opening it. Several attempts were made at deleting and re-downloading the app with no success.

### 1/5 — Simply an advertisement for another $7.99 app

*2019-12-30, version 3.1.5*

What? Gotta buy another app to see what was written in 1529, forcing today’s spin on the reader?

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2019-10-28, version 3.1.4*

Crashes on my iPod Touch running iOS 9.3.5 with a 32-bit processor. Just too bad, I now use the ELCA app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Wonderful

*2025-12-13, version 3.2.0*

This is a great resource for any Christian. Educated in Lutheran elementary school (I still have my Living in Christ book), a confirmed “cradle Lutheran”, I took LSC for granted. As with many matters of the faith, I can now appreciate at my advanced age more deeply what and how this Catechism teaches. It clarifies my understanding of Scripture and strengthens my witness to Christ. The app is convenient and easy to navigate. A real blessing!

### 5/5 — Great app, a memorization feature would be a huge value add.

*2025-01-29, version 3.2.0*

I recommend this app to all me confirmation kids but if the app included memorization aids, I’d require all my confirmation kids to get it.

### 5/5 — Loving it!

*2023-11-15, version 3.2.0*

Stumbled across this and downloaded it right away. Pretty excited to be able to have and hold the small catechism everywhere I go. I already used it once while waiting in line with my five year old to run through the commandments.

### 5/5 — Awesome app

*2023-10-25, version 3.2.0*

This is a wonderful app it has lots of great information and I love being able to see it good on my iPad. I have eye disease so this is a real blessing.

### 5/5 — Great format!

*2017-09-02, version 3.0.4*

Works great, great format. Very enjoyable to use.

### 5/5 — Well organized and presented

*2017-06-25, version 3.0.4*

The app is well organized and presented, a faithful translation from a book to a mobile application.

### 5/5 — Simple and easy to navigate. Perfect.

*2017-06-15, version 3.0.4*

This is the perfect tool for teaching and studying the faith in families. We've been teaching our children (5, 3, & baby) the catechism since winter this year. This app makes it so easy to turn to quickly for a refresher (to make sure I remember it correctly) before reviewing it with the kids (my husband doesn't need this when he teaches the kids, but his memory is better than mine).

The interface is perfect. So easy and quick to flip to each of the chief parts of the catechism. It also has the Christian questions and their answers. I can see this being a useful tool for older kids in confirmation classes as well.

And of course, you can't beat the price! Thank you CPH for a wonderful resource!

### 5/5 — Thank You CPH

*2017-05-04, version 3.0.4*

A great way to take the Lord's Word with you. I love this, gives me something good on my phone to spend time on.

### 5/5 — Pages

*2016-02-26, version 3.0.1*

It would be nice if it showed what pages the sections are from in the actual catechism

### 5/5 — Add Korean and version.

*2015-12-08, version 3.0.1*

It would be nice if you would add the Korean language. It would be beneficial to the mission plants in north Georgia in the north Atlanta circuit. There are a lot of Korean mission plants and plans for at least four more over the next four years.

It would also be beneficial to add which translation of the Bible we are using. In the German church is it would be nice to add a German translation. For the church is using the ESV which is the majority, it would be nice to have that option.
