## What is LXX Vocab?

The LXX Vocab App helps students to learn the vocabulary of the Septuagint in a quick, fun and easy way. Study by frequency or by type of word. Test yourself anytime. Track your progress and pass any vocab test with ease. The app has 813 words (all words that occur 40+ times in LXX) which cover 70% of the Septuagint text.

Summary of Features:
- Beautiful intuitive design.
- 813 most common words in the Greek Old Testament (40+ occurrences)
- 450+ top of the art illustrations for most of the words.
- Unique learning algorithm brings up the words you still learn more often.
- Study Greek words by frequency or part of speech.
- Control the length of your tests: test all words in a segment or pick 10, 25 or 50 questions.
- Tracking mode shows your progress based on the test results.

The Septuagint contains about 12,370 unique words which combined occur 424,000 times in the LXX. The LXX Vocab App offers 813 of the most common words which cover 70% of all occurrences. In fact, the top 200 words will appear 237,900 times in the Septuagint which is about 57%.

The average size of the word segments varies between 30-80 words. Our unique learning algorithm circulates 5-10 words in a loop so you could see them more often and learn quicker. As you learn a word, it removes it from the loop and adds another one, thus you can learn at your own speed.

450+ hand drawn images beautifully illustrate the meaning of the words making the learning experience fun and easy. Many new images were added and some were updated to reflect the OT meaning of the word.

Download the App today, pass any LXX vocab quiz and start reading the Septuagint.

### 4/5 — Android?

*2025-10-29*

This app is great on my iPad. But sadly it’s not available on newer Android phones…which is where I most need it for daily use. If I could have it on my Galaxy S25 it would easily be 5-stars.

### 3/5 — Better than most Bible Greek apps, but lacks necessary features

*2024-10-28*

The reason why I give 3 stars rather than higher is because it lacks an adequate algorithm for learning vocab. The amount of vocab you learn at once is too few, 5-8, which is not enough for spaced repetition. Sure, the card deck might be 50+, but you only see a few until you tell the app that you have the word down. This is not spaced repetition, and shows the developer really doesn’t understand language learning at all. If the app had modern language learning features, if it was more like memrise or quizlet, it would be better. Yes, memrise only does a handful of words at a time too, but it periodically has you review vocab, where this app does not do that. This app would be much more useful if you could view the whole deck. 3 stars for the art, the amount of vocab, ability to filter by type and frequency, and definitely for showing the frequency of a word, which most apps lack.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the constructive criticism. We will definitely consider your recommendations.

To clear something, I would say that I have been learning and teaching languages for many years, so stating that "the developer doesn’t understand language learning at all" is far from reality or a distorted hyperbola. I will definitely consider your recommendations but I also admit that I don’t have a budget of Memrise or Quizlet. I work within my means. In current state, my apps helped thousands of users, so the algorithm works. Can it be improved? Probably yes, so we always strive to grow.

Thank you. You are appreciated.

### 4/5 — Helpful but not modern or reconstructed

*2024-08-28*

I had watched a YouTube video of the app usage and was so hopeful based on comments from 2 years ago that at least reconstructed or perhaps modern was an option, but after purchasing I find it is not included. I don’t wish to learn erasmian and it is not a foundation for me to try to switch back and forth trying to fix or correct it. I had already purchased the Hebrew app which I love and the pronunciation is helpful. I had high hopes that were now dropped as I don’t want to mess up 6 months of modern while learning biblical Greek. If this was an option in settings to select modern then this would be a solid 5 stars and the go to app for every student like the Hebrew equivalent app. Without it, it’s just like the rest and would suggest using a different parsing app with more features and same price point. Will reevaluate this if pronunciation options are added.

Update: I have to admit that the way this app works is helpful to study while at work and in the go and the pictures are so memorable. Check out “ark” I had a good laugh. I’m giving it a solid 4 stars as this is a really good app, just only had erasmian. I noticed the audio on some words are similar to modern. I do recommend this app even if you are doing modern as the Flashcards are very handy in the go. I haven’t found it yet but would like the option to have picture hidden as sometimes I know the answer based on the picture but don’t really know the word. Maybe have a 3 part card where the hint is the picture. I know the test has no picture and is multiple choice.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the recommendations. Much appreciated.
I plan to update this app soon.
1. There will be a switch to hide images.

I plan to offer different pronunciation systems. Many people ask. So, it’s coming at one point.

**Developer response:** Glad to hear that! All the best!

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2021-09-06*

This app is a great resource, though I wish o could study Vocab by the book and not only by word occurrence

**Developer response:** Thank you for the recommendation. We will consider it for future upgrades.

### 5/5 — Great utility!

*2021-01-09*

I am reading through large parts of the LXX this year, and this app came along at just the right time to help me. Thank you very much for putting this together!

One thing that I would love to see is a list of all the words in a category, and a way to flag words that you’ve learned and don’t need to review again.

Also, you are not getting ratings for this app, because when the app prompts you to rate it, it is taking you to a different app in the App Store.

**Developer response:** Ken, thank you for the rating, review, and for letting me know about a small bug with the link for rating. Fixed it already.
