### 4/5 — Love ride share bikes

*2026-07-29, version 2026.27.3*

I love ride share bikes. They are the future of transportation however I have a few complaints. The price, it’s so expensive for what it is. Second is the quality. Some bikes are completely decrepit and broken, ridiculous for a paid service. That being said I’m a strong supporter but there needs to be some changes.

### 2/5 — Can’t get past login

*2025-10-27, version 2025.41.3*

I’m extremely disappointed and frustrated that I can’t get past the login screen. Every time I try using my phone number or email which is tied to Lyft, the app claims I have no account. This is extra troubling because I received a code to try the app free for one month at a local cycling event and clearly I’ll be unable to redeem it any time soon. I also tried to create a new account but seeing as I only have one phone number like a normal person, I get stuck at the same spot. Tired of all these texts with codes that don’t actually do anything and no way to reach someone about solving this issue.

### 1/5 — Bad bikes, bad app and bad support

*2025-07-07*

Advertised functions like renting two bikes via one account are not implemented in the app.
E-bike broke down in the middle of my ride. No e-assist or lights were working anymore. No support was given. That is dangerous and annoying.

### 1/5 — Day Pass was so misleading

*2025-06-08, version 2025.20.3*

I wanted to take a 30-minute ride, but the app offered me a Day Pass for $15. I decided to try and extend my ride, thinking I had unlimited time. I was shocked to be charged an additional $75 at the end of the trip!! It turns out you have to lock and unlock the bike every 30 minutes. The Day Pass ad was extremely misleading, the 30-minute limit was buried in details. I would never have used it if I had known that a few hour ride would end up costing more than a brand-new bicycle. I feel scammed.

### 1/5 — Camera doesn't work anymore

*2025-06-04, version 2025.20.3*

Camera doesn't work anymore

### 1/5 — Absolute Abzocke

*2025-06-01*

Versteckte Kosten!

*2025-04-05, version 2025.11.3*

I love the idea and have used the bikes a few times with the lyft app. So I pay a yearly fee, scan a bike on this app, and my phone gets stuck in a loop of trying to tap to pay and it won’t even turn off, I har to let the battery die to use it again. Had a dinner reservation but couldn’t rent a bike and couldn’t use my phone to call an uber. If you don’t support a phone model, don’t let me buy your subscription! I will be following up for a refund.

### 1/5 — Deceptive and misleading business practices

*2025-03-16, version 2025.8.3*

Deceptive and misleading business practices. They have a $15 day pass. Says unlimited… but surprise!!! You have to pay the day pass AND per minute fees. Cost us $60. Customer service provides no help. Buyer beware.

### 3/5 — App payment issues

*2025-02-10, version 2025.4.3*

I was rushing to work for a meeting, and suddenly got a notification that it couldn’t process payment. It could have warned me earlier? I also had multiple cards on Apple Pay but it didn’t detect them

I’ve been a member for 1.5 years and spent $500 on this, so I don’t know why they need to cause issues for $2 and make me late to work

### 1/5 — Day pass is misleading

*2024-12-13*

If you are a tourist do not use this app. A so called ‘day pass’ isn’t for the whole day. It’s for loads of 30 minute rides. Confused, yep we all were too. The customer service is absolutely shocking. We used in San Francisco and being tech capital of the world the tech is USELSS. Problems with the app and docking stations. Stay away and hire a bike from blazing saddles.

### 1/5 — Customer Support Extremely incompetent

*2024-09-25, version 15.77.3*

I tried exporting my bills so I could get them refunded by my firm. I had to manually select all my rides only to realize the export button does not work properly. I reached out to the customer support. They made me wait for several minutes and offer no resolution in the end. I ended up wasting 30 minutes.

### 4/5 — Widgets Don’t Work (IOS18)

*2024-09-18, version 15.76.3*

Just upgraded to IOS18 and discovered the widget doesn’t work well - the core functionality is good (scanning bikes, maps, etc..)

The widget offers more glanceable / faster way to scan for frequent users, but it appears to be broken.

A couple of issues:
1) manual refresh causing a reload loop (blinks)
2) sometimes ignores choice of station and reports a random station
3) no place in app for non-ride related issues
4) stale information on station supply that doesn’t seem to refresh (even after opening the app to confirm)

Otherwise love it.

### 1/5 — Awful experience

*2024-09-02*

I rented two bikes for me and my boyfriend on a day pass for some touring around SF. One of our bikes broke and we got stranded in Sausalito. We weren’t able to move his bike so we had to take a ferry back. Meanwhile the clock was adding charges to my credit card cause we went over the 30 minute allowance. I tried calling support to explain the situation and they would not refund the extra charges. It’s cost me over $51 for one bike trip and an extra $28 in ferry fees. For what I thought was going to be a $15 rental. Horrible experience, do not recommend

### 1/5 — I love the service but the app no longer works!

*2024-05-18, version 15.58.3*

I cannot get it work on my iPhone 13! What’s going on?! I’ve been a member since the start in San Francisco.

### 1/5 — Stealing money

*2024-03-09, version 15.48.3*

This company try to sell you day pass but they didn’t mention that this pass cannot be used for e-bikes. Also, after your ride it takes a lot of time to lock the bike because bike station doesn’t work correctly. Not recommended!

### 4/5 — Why no apple watch app?

*2024-03-04, version 15.47.3*

Often I don’t bring my phone, just my Apple Watch (w cellular) and I can’t unlock a bike that way. Let’s fix that please!

### 1/5 — Apt does not show areas where parking bikes is not allowed

*2024-02-20, version 15.46.3*

The app no longer shows you the areas where parking is not allowed. So it shows the areas green and then you park the bike and then you get charged $25 and find out that you’re in a red zone

### 1/5 — Scam Company

*2024-01-04*

I have used this app for a few years. The bikes are poorly maintained garbage, but sometimes, I want to make a one way trip via bicycle, and this is not possible if you use your own bike. Much better to use a city bike instead of locking yours outside the store. Do not ride these bikes if things like “brakes” matter to you. Bent pedals, nasty seats. Docks are often non functional, empty, or full. The best part is when they scam you! “You parked wrong,” said the agent. That’s why they had stolen $25 and change off of my second credit card after the first card declined their fraudulent charges. “I didn’t park wrong, and I have pictures.” “Oh, in that case, sorry for the inconvenience.”

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Ride share does not work

*2026-07-27, version 2026.25.3*

App completely lies about having a ride together feature that does not exist. Scam company

### 1/5 — Scam

*2026-06-21, version 2026.22.3*

They overcharged me, I rented 2 bikes for 35 and they charged me 3 times instead of 2, they also charged me an extra $16 and another $10. They just stole my money.

### 1/5 — Not helpful

*2026-06-20, version 2026.22.3*

It is impossible to rent a second bike

### 1/5 — Expensive and works quite badly

*2026-05-19, version 2026.18.3*

Not worth it just get your own bike

### 1/5 — Sms problem

*2026-04-04*

Sms does not arrive

### 1/5 — Uncomfortable

*2026-03-30, version 2026.11.3*

I never ride such a uncomfortable bike , handling and seats worse bike seats winner of the world, what a waste they never test these bikes

### 1/5 — Scam

*2026-02-05*

This service is an entire scam. I signed up two weeks ago. First week went smoothly. This second week, however, I suddenly find myself in a bike void with no bikes available at nearby stations in the morning (before 8:30am). It’s not even Friday and I’ve already had to commute to work via bus and walking.

I contacted “customer support” and they were kind enough to tell me that while they were sorry for “my inconvenience,” they weren’t about to refund any remaining membership. They did tell me I could turn off Auto Renew if I felt that strongly about it, and told me I could enjoy my membership perks for the remainder of the month. Can’t wait to use my “membership perks” on all those non-existent bikes nearby.

### 1/5 — Garbage bikes, garbage support and expensive

*2025-12-23, version 2025.48.3*

All said in the title

### 1/5 — Awful experience

*2025-09-12, version 2025.34.3*

Ended my trip at a dock that apparently did not work, spend 20 minutes texting the worst costumer support ever who could not do anything. I was vey nice, sent pictures and explained. They ghosted me ending the conversation with “you have to drive the bike to a different station” (15 mins walk from my destination)
Wasted 40 minutes of my life! Take Uber or Waymo please!

### 1/5 — Exorbitant

*2025-07-12, version 2025.25.3*

It is usually cheaper to just get an uber than use this app. I don’t know how baywheels justifies these ridiculous prices.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I love Bay Wheels

*2025-02-20*

Spending a few months in SF for school and got the Bay Wheels membership. Such a fantastic way to get around the city; it’s better than walking and is almost always faster than taking an Uber.

I also joined the Bike Angels program and was able to earn points that I redeemed for weekly membership extensions. Highly recommend joining (it’s free), as you can also redeem for Lyft ride credit and other nice rewards.

For $30 I’ve had 2 months of unlimited free bike rides everywhere - can’t get much better than that!

### 5/5 — we chilling (sometimes)

*2024-08-27, version 15.73.3*

lifesaver in sf except when its out of service

### 5/5 — I love Bay Wheels!

*2023-04-21, version 15.2.3*

Don’t let negative reviews fool u. This is an excellent app and I used it multiple times for a 3 night stay in beautiful San Francisco. If memory serves, it even has a trip planner so that u will know where to pick up and drop off a bike. I tried both non electric and electric bikes. I recommend both!

Also try the Lime app for electric scooters = recommended!

### 5/5 — Great customer support

*2022-07-23, version 14.39.3*

Had an issue with my annual subscription, and the customer support team was helpful and prompt. In addition to that, the app is good and the bikeshare system is a huge convenience, especially with how expensive gas is.

### 5/5 — THANK YOU

*2020-01-25, version 13.9.0*

Dear Bay Wheels/Lyft, I have just made a blood oath at your new station on Park Blvd—I solemnly swear to never drive my car again!! Thank you so much to everyone who worked on implementing this station. I love you.

### 5/5 — The shifting tides

*2020-01-14, version 13.8.0*

The world is waking up to the power of bikes as a meaningful, nay, imperative mode of transportation in our dense urban areas. Bay Wheels is doin it’s part in accelerating that shift. This app does what it needs to to get you riding on a bike and helping your city and planet.

### 5/5 — Excelente!!!

*2019-09-14*

Muy buena app con excelentes resultados, muy fácil de usar y con información muy clara.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2019-07-16*

Works well and I love ride!

### 5/5 — Biking makes me happy!

*2019-05-10, version 12.14.0*

After having multiple bikes or parts there of stolen, I’d given up cycling in San Francisco. Now I don’t have to worry about that, or maintenance and storage. I am back to commuting by bicycle which is awesome, and significantly cheaper than BART :)

### 5/5 — Tourist in town for a day

*2019-04-19, version 12.13.0*

Ford Bikeshare was awesome for getting around San Francisco downtown area. Much better than walking, way more convenient than the bus, and more flexible and lower cost than the other options like Lyft, Uber, or the trolley. Sure would like to see a couple more stations towards Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf and Presidio though
