## What is Macdio?

Macdio is a radio app built for people who actually care about the listening experience. No ads, no tracking, no data collection. Just thousands of live radio stations from around the world, right on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watch.

You open the app, you find a station, you listen. That simple. Browse by genre, country, or popularity. Jazz, electronic, classical, hip-hop, whatever you are into, it is here.

When you hear something you love, hit record. Macdio saves live radio moments so you can listen again later, even offline. Real-time lyrics show up when available, so you can follow along with whatever is playing.

Your favorites are always one tap away. Save the stations you keep coming back to and build your own collection. Check your listening stats to see how much time you have spent, your top genres, and which stations you play the most.

Macdio works on Apple Watch too. Not a stripped down remote control, a real app. Browse stations, play music, check favorites, and view stats directly from your wrist. It works on its own without needing your iPhone nearby. Add complications to your watch face and see what is playing at a glance.

The sleep timer lets you fall asleep to music without worrying about it playing all night.

Privacy is not a feature we added later. Macdio does not collect your data, does not track what you listen to on any server, and does not sell anything to anyone. Your listening habits stay on your device.

No ads. No in-app purchases. No subscriptions. You buy it once and it is yours on every device. iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Watch, all included.

Built for radio lovers, by someone who actually listens to radio.

### 5/5 — A very good radio app.

*2026-08-19*

The app is very smooth and easy to use, but I would like to see a feature that allows adding favorite radio stations to the menu bar window.

### 5/5 — Good job!

*2026-06-13*

I’ve been looking for a Live Radio app like this for a long time. The interface is clean app quailty is excellent.

### 5/5 — Perfect ad free radio app

*2026-05-26*

Exactly what I was looking for a simple fast and ad free radio app streaming quality is top natch 5 stars all the way!!!

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2026-05-23*

Finally a solution to stream my DI.fm favorites on my Apple Watch and Apple TV. Keep up the great work!

**Developer response:** Thanks a lot! To be honest, the lack of a good Watch and TV app is exactly why I started building Macdio in the first place.

By the way, just a quick note I just finished coding v1.0.5 and it'll be dropping very soon. It brings some cool new features and a bunch of performance tweaks under the hood. Keep an eye out!

### 5/5 — Great Radio App

*2026-05-16*

This is a great radio app. Miles better than the other radio apps out there and no subscriptions and no ads. $10 is a fair price for the features.

Only a few suggestions. There are a few CarPlay improvements that should be added, like auto resume playing when you get in and out of the car. I have to manually open the CarPlay app and go back to the station I was listening to.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much, this genuinely made my day. Really glad it's working well for you.

The CarPlay auto-resume is a great call you're right, having to navigate back manually every time you get in the car is friction that shouldn't be there. The app should just pick up where you left off the moment CarPlay connects. I'm adding it to the next update.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review and the feedback. It helps more than you know.

### 5/5 — Easy to use with great selection

*2026-05-11*

Honestly was surprised at how awesome this is. Great to see a high quality app that does not require a monthly subscription.

**Developer response:** thanks so much! keeping it a one-time purchase with zero monthly fees was super important to me. hearing that you appreciate the quality and native feel makes all the coding sessions totally worth it. enjoy the app! 🍻

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.5.1 — 2026-08-28

Song ID grew up in this release. I rebuilt the engine underneath it, and Auto Shazam is no longer experimental.

- Stations that share their song inside the stream now show it instantly, no recognition needed. Many Opus and FLAC stations do, and Macdio finally listens to them
- Song ID now works on FLAC and Opus stations, which never worked before
- What the station says always wins: no more wrong song names or covers from a bad guess
- The Lock Screen and CarPlay now always show the same correct song as the app, and synced lyrics line up more precisely
- Recognition listens to the audio you already hear instead of opening a second connection, so it is faster and lighter on the network
- Song info no longer vanishes mid-song
- Tiny broken station logos are replaced with clean artwork
- The layout now fits 4.7 inch iPhones (SE 2 and 3): the mini player no longer overlaps the tab bar and the player screen fits the display

Thank you for every report you send. They shaped every fix in here.

### 2.2.0 — 2026-08-20

Playback comes back on its own again.

If a notification was read out loud, or Siri answered a question, or a call arrived, the station stopped and stayed silent until you pressed play. That is fixed. Macdio now returns to the station by itself as soon as the interruption is over, whether the app is open or in your pocket.

This includes CarPlay: take a call in the car and the radio comes back when you hang up.

Song ID reaches far more stations.

Opus and Ogg stations can be identified now. They used to be skipped before a single second was ever listened to.

Stations that announce a song as a file name are read properly instead of showing nothing at all.

Stations that do not report their bitrate now get the full listening window, which makes a match much more likely.

And when a song genuinely cannot be identified, Macdio tells you the real reason instead of always blaming the Shazam catalogue.

### 2.1.0 — 2026-08-04

Macdio 2.1 is here, the biggest release I have ever built, and I built every part of it for you. Robin, Melmaleh, Yaron, Konstantin, and so many more of you who wrote in and kept believing in this little radio: thank you.

- Save a song and it is now loved in your Apple Music library too, if you turn it on
- Tuck the mini player away with a single tap, and bring it back just as easily
- Saved Tracks now shows which device you saved each song on
- Song ID, rebuilt from scratch: it now hears exactly what you hear and keeps listening like a dedicated app, so stations that never worked finally get recognized
- Add your own station and watch its logo appear the moment you paste the link, with web pages and awkward links sorted out for you
- Your station logo now looks right everywhere: the list, the full player, the mini bar and the bedside clock
- Game controller support, solid at last: buttons stay instant right after a station starts, pause and skip respond right away, and Clock Mode shows Connecting, Buffering, Live or Paused as you go
- A bedside Clock Mode with an alarm, with X for the alarm panel and Y for the sleep timer straight from a controller
- Discover never falls silent again, and tells you when a lookup fails instead of pretending a country has no stations
- Your lists, folder colors and section order now follow you across iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV
- Smoother and lighter: no stutter while iCloud syncs, almost no processor use when idle, steady memory all evening
- A brand new icon, plus 13 icon themes to make Macdio truly yours
- Performance improvements and bug fixes throughout

Thank you for building this radio with me. Keep the ideas coming.

### 1.1.4 — 2026-07-12

Your radio now has full game controller support, and your AirPlay reports got fixed. Thank you for every email and review, they all became fixes or features.

- Full gamepad control: press Menu on a connected controller to browse and play your Favourites, My Stations, lists, genres and countries right from the pad
- Make the controller yours: remap every button in Settings > Game Controller, from play/pause to Song ID
- AirPlay fixed: stations that played on the iPhone but went silent on a HomePod or AirPlay speaker now play reliably
- Country search fixed: type a country in your own language (Nederland, Rusland, España) and it shows up, with no wrong countries in the results
- Song ID no longer gets stuck on the first identified song on stations without song info
- A wide round of stability fixes across search, playback and the library

### 1.1.1 — 2026-07-07

Macdio is now a bedside clock radio, with an alarm that wakes you to your favourite station.

- Wake up to radio: set an alarm in Clock Mode, with Snooze and Stop right on screen
- Drag to reorder your stations, or sort instantly with A-Z
- Control playback with an MFi or Bluetooth game controller
- Search countries in your own language, accents included
- Song ID protects real album art and recognises far more stations
- Lyrics sync more accurately, with auto-scroll on by default

Plus a wide round of speed, stability, and polish across the whole app.
