### 4/5 — Great app for everything, Apple

*2025-10-04*

This is a great app we’ve due for many sources including 9to5Mac and MacRumours.

### 2/5 — Needs a Vision Pro app version

*2025-08-11, version 7.4.7*

An Apple Watch and Apple TV app version would not hurt either.

### 3/5 — Nice app but could have better content control

*2025-01-23*

A MacHash developer reached out about a previous post where I pointed out the horrific ads. He was accurate that the ads are not MacHash ads but instead ads from the content short I was looking at.

He was right. On the home page for MacHash the ads are sensible and unobtrusive. But when I go into the content for certain providers is when I get the full screen, in your face, horrendous ads.

So I’m changing the rating. I like MacHash, I have used it for some time. But if it is just going to aggregate the sites page then they should expose options to block ads or use the iOS built in ad blockers. If they gave you some control over these then I would raise it to 5 stars. Because of I view these sights in the browser I have that option and from the look of it they are just showing the sites page in their container.

**Developer response:** Sorry you are experiencing that. We do not place any pop up or video ads in the app, never have. You are likely seeing the video ads from the third party websites you visit within the app which we do not have control over. Please let us know if there is a specific site that displays these popups and we will try to investigate further if there is something we can do to prevent that.

There is a possibility to limit and block these types of ads with a Safari content blocker which can be used with the app if the Premium upgrade is activated, this also removes the app banner at the bottom of the screen.

Previous response:
As an ad supported free app which offers users the ability to turn off ads, we have little control over the content and advertisers that display via third party ad network partners.

We do limit adult, spam, vices and other questionable ad formats. However on occasion ads may display in our apps that do not meet our standards. We will take action to limit these when reported. So I would encourage you to take a screenshot and reach out to us and we can try to prevent further undesirable ads.

We also offer the option to disable the ad banner permanently for less than the cost of a cup of coffee.

### 2/5 — Deleted the app

*2024-12-27*

I’ve had this for years and unfortunately I’ve finally decided to get rid. The scrolling is poor and accelerates without much control. When you click on an article, the inclusion of adverts and banners means the page loads with glitches. The results are very buggy with continual refresh and vanishing content.

### 1/5 — Broken

*2024-03-26, version 7.4.7*

The app will not load.

### 1/5 — Stopped Working.

*2024-03-26*

Seems there’s issues with the app. It was working fine but for the past few days there’s no news or any sites in the list so there’s nothing to read. Would be 5 stars because for years it’s been excellent.

**Developer response:** The app is back up and running. We had some temporary downtime due to a server issue. Unfortunately took our hosting partner longer than we would have liked to resolve. You can check with our x.com/machashnews account for updates in the future.

### 4/5 — Great news, slightly annoying ads

*2023-11-15, version 7.4.4*

Good news, various sources. The ads can get overbearing… but also a very inexpensive option for no ads.

### 1/5 — MAJOR BUG…

*2023-11-11, version 7.4.4*

…fix it ASAP, it auto-redirects to browser or Pandora or who knows. Will delete app if this is not fixed soon. It should never be able to happen.

### 1/5 — Gone down hill

*2023-11-08, version 7.4.4*

Has been great but now I have popup redirect adds bouncing me to safari

### 4/5 — Great all but ….

*2023-08-22, version 7.4.4*

I’ve noticed that the scroll on a news article is “laggy” - hard to explain but it’s like it’s on an elastic. It’s can’t be performance of my phone because it’s an iPhone 14?

### 2/5 — Background app process

*2023-03-08*

I reported this before. The battery information on my iPhone 13 Pro Max shows a 6 hour and 17 minute of background activity. There are no background app refresh options for me to toggle off. I understand that it may be an anomaly but the issue persists.

**Developer response:** Not sure how you experienced this anomaly. MacHash does not request background app permission and there are no background processes within the app.

### 3/5 — Great but UX is veeeeery bad and poor and add auto removed ads from websites

*2023-03-08*

I hope you check all problems and solve the ux problems and scrolling fixing is very speedy and not smoothly and must improve ui to be the best and improve speed the app and browsing and i hope you care about auto adblocking from websites removed all ads now to many apps add this future and i hope you to, one of them the “Brave browser” app auto removing ads, and improve fast loading- Bringing technology news from Tech news app to machash app, only tech news (android, ios, windows, gaming) , so we can get tech news in just one app, not two. If you are working on these features I would like to purchase the premium option and give you 5 stars ⭐️ from you and would like to add new features to improve the app. Honestly, I liked the application, but it has some problems that I hope to solve so that the experience is better

### 1/5 — Had to delete

*2022-11-27, version 7.4.4*

The app kept showing up in background app activity in the battery usage reports. Why does it need to run in the background? No thank you. Had to delete.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Just a blank black screen….

*2025-11-16, version 7.4.7*

Not sure what’s going on, but this is the third or fourth time the screen is just black, no news, no headlines.

### 1/5 — It never works.

*2025-11-12, version 7.4.7*

It never works all I get is blank screens.

### 1/5 — Constant popup ads

*2025-08-22, version 7.4.7*

Videos will pop up in the middle of reading the article and half the time I can’t close them.

### 1/5 — Absolute junk

*2025-08-13, version 7.4.7*

Nothing but full screen ads that fill the screen every 3-5 seconds. Do your self a favor; don’t even bother to download this.

### 1/5 — Political Postings Now

*2025-07-19, version 7.4.7*

Off topics how

### 1/5 — Annoying automated video playing

*2025-06-23, version 7.4.7*

The app is starting to take the piss with the incredibly annoying auto play videos - they have always been annoying but avoidable, now it seems you cannot read a story *at all* without the video wanting to pop up and start playing.

Let’s just get this mega crystal clear / the reason I use this app is because it traditionally allowed me to do what I wanted to do - that is to read news without annoyance. If this is not fixed, I’ll delete the app never to return - that simple.

### 1/5 — Ridiculous ads ruin the app

*2025-06-19*

I’ve started using this app less and less and going directly to the sources because someone decided these full screen ads that emerge as you scroll were a good idea. The problem is most of the time these ads are finicky and don’t load so you just see a massive black screen over the text or it flickers. At the end of the day people are coming to apps like this to read content but when you make trash decisions like this that make articles unreadable - what’s the point? I can go on Apple News and subscribe to the same channels and minus the missing comments section it’s a much better overall experience. But apps like this will cry about being Sherlocked when you did it to yourself.

### 1/5 — Annoying flashing ads

*2024-12-19, version 7.4.7*

Deleted app after update.

### 1/5 — Worst ad experience ever

*2024-11-15*

I like Mac hash, I have used it for years. I haven’t minded the ads until recently. They were present but not intrusive.

Recently their ads have gone to turbo terrible. Note they have pop up video ads that take the whole screen. I started just closing them by swiping down. Now I’m getting video ads that when you swipe down the pop back up. I minimized the app and the ad kept playing minimized on the screen. I had to quit machash to get it to go away.

So annoying, please stay with sensible ads that don’t demand my screen and attention so that I can choose.

### 1/5 — DOESN'T WORK

*2024-03-26, version 7.4.7*

After a couple of years of good app use, the app has stopped loading and is worthless. I tried deleting it and bringing it back but still doesn't load.
Because it doesn't load I can't reach out for help on the app.
I'm very disappointed

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Number One

*2024-05-20, version 7.4.7*

The BEST Apple app on the web. Congrats to you & keep on keeping on. Cheers

### 5/5 — Rely on this app and recommend it highly.

*2024-04-12*

This collects everything you need/want to know about Apple from news to reviews to predictions.

### 5/5 — Excellent App & Dev

*2023-12-01*

First off, this app is fantastic. It has every site for Apple/Mac/iStuff you could possibly need/want, and you can choose which sites show up in the main feed. It is a literal plethora of news and information. If you’re an Apple nerd, you need this app.

Second, the app itself works flawlessly. I have been using it on various devices for many, many years and almost never encounter any problems. Feeds refresh and update quickly and articles and sites load smoothly. In the *extremely* rare case an issue pops up, it is quickly addressed and back in working order at an impressive speed.

Finally, the developer is first-rate. The app is well maintained and replies to user feedback are handled quickly, politely, and professionally - truly an example to his peers. The premium upgrade is worth every penny, not just to remove the ads, but to support a developer of this caliber.

I highly recommend this app, and that you check out his other app, TechNewsTube, for all non-Apple-related tech news, as it is just as excellent and informative as MacHash.

### 5/5 — Started crashing … (UPDATED)

*2023-11-30*

App used to work GREAT. Now it crashes after a few seconds. Not sure what’s going on, but the developer needs to fix it. EDIT: The developer responded and fixed it!!!

*2020-08-12, version 7.2.2*

MacHash is a fantastic app where I can get the latest Apple news from every different source such as 9to5Mac, Cult of Mac, Apple Insider and loads more and I’m so grateful you guys included accessibility options to make the text bigger as I’m visually impaired. Thank you so much and I’m glad I gave you guys a tip. Keep up the great work.
