### 3/5 — Great app - bad service

*2026-09-07, version 1.3.1*

I loved the app and had the free version that came for members of MacroFactor. When they discontinued the free trial I couldn’t even log in anymore without paying. All I wanted was to download the workout data or even just see it to keep track of what I’d done but they locked it behind a paywall. I get not letting me use the app for workouts but taking your data from you and then holding it hostage unless you pay for it is a greedy bs move and makes me lose respect for Jeff for doing it.

### 3/5 — Great App….Needs Watch App!

*2026-09-05, version 1.3.1*

Fantastic and intuitive, i have Strong and Bevel. I love MF WO, but I won’t migrate until they finally release a watch app.

### 2/5 — They could make this better if they wanted

*2026-08-31, version 1.2.7*

This app is tremendously frustrating to use and to review. While it has a vast set of capabilities that would place it firmly at the top of anyone’ top list of workout planners and loggers but with almost every key feature comes a MASSIVE what were/are they thinking? From offering flexibility to import custom programs and adding custom exercises to progressive smart analysis, the app could be great. They then take each of these and make them frustratingly useless by either creating absurd guardrails to program import formats, making on-the-fly exercise additions something that takes longer than an entire workout to set up! If they wanted to make their app 1000x more friendly overnight they would give users a CSV template for program building and a live list of every current exercise available in the app. A junior coder could implement this feature in 10 minutes giving users so much more control over the app, but it appears MacroFactor is more interested in creating obstacles at every turn, limiting seamless program uploads to partner public figures who sell their programs for $40+. That brings me to the built-in programs that are not third-party or uploaded from a purchased source. Frankly, they are all pretty lousy and lack the detailed specificity cycle training associated with more sophisticated Trainer programs. Focus settings are nice but completely ambiguous on implementation and arbitrarily capped at various levels depending on muscle type. Creating new exercises is like solving a cypher with the number of questions to set up the exercise with non-intuitive labels and no “helper” buttons to provide a simple explanation for what the various criteria even mean. I shouldn’t have to exist the interface and have ChatGPT explain to me how MFWO classifies the “stability” of an exercise.

Apple Health integration is another horribly executed and inconsistent feature. The app will run a custom workout simultaneously on the phone and Apple Watch but at workout conclusion it may or may not log the exercise calories in Active Calories, even when given full write privileges in Apple Health. It might just show up in Workouts. You just don’t know!

So, on potential and interface the app would score a 4.5 and on an implementation/execution perspective it deserves 0.5-1.0, but the real problem is I truly believe they have the ability to make a more capable and usable product that JUST WORKS but have chosen not to invest the time or resources into doing so.

This is a fragmented app space and no one does it great all-around, but this app’s high ratings are truly puzzling to me! Sorry!

### 2/5 — Good for brand new beginners - not much else

*2026-08-24, version 1.2.4*

MacroFactor is the best nutrition tracking app I’ve used, and I’ve tried most of them. The workout programming feature, however, feels like a separate product built for a different user. The exercise recommendations seem to be generated for a general population with no training history or specific goals, and if you’re an intermediate lifter with a structured program already, the sessions will feel generic and somewhat random in their emphasis. For example lateral raises appeared in nearly every session of my generated split (and I did request an emphasis on those muscles) while movements more relevant to my goals were underrepresented. The app recommends a full body program which goes against most of the science backed research today. If you have a workout already building that as a custom program is incredibly time consuming and if you’re looking to migrate from spreadsheets it’s not worth it. My recommendation is use MacroFactor exclusively for nutrition tracking and run your own programming independently.

### 2/5 — Disappointing over the long run

*2026-08-21, version 1.2.4*

Huge fan of MacroFactor but after 6 months I’m moving back to Hevy and will use their API for customization.

Why?

1. UX is poor and ultimately too much and too confusing
2. Sets don’t update, recommendations are all over the place
3. No Apple watch app

I spend more time using the app than focusing on my workouts.

### 2/5 — Useful for many but not for me

*2026-08-18, version 1.2.4*

So I think the main thing holding the app back is that there's almost too much fidelity in its features and exercises. It’s really nice to specify the range of motion and all the different muscle groups involved, even down to the movement plane. However, the exercise library, while fully stocked, feels overwhelming due to the sheer number of variations.

For example, it's not just a row; it’s a chest-supported pronated grip row or a chest-supported neutral grip row. These are simple examples, but there are many more tiny nuances between exercises. Nine times out of ten, when I'm putting together a program, I just want to know where the flat bench press is, not the dozens of other variations.

The gym profiles idea seems neat at first, but it ultimately complicates things because there are so many choices of equipment, and none of them perfectly match the exercises you may have planned. If you’re in a home gym with limited equipment, you might find that the exercise you’re searching for doesn’t appear because of a small hiccup, like typing "plate loaded pull down" when the exercise is actually a "pen loaded plate down." It’s unclear why these details are so significant. The gym profiles feature becomes a hindrance with far too many exercises to choose from, creating noise when trying to assemble a program.

Once you have a program together and you’re doing the exercises, it feels pretty good at that point, but I do think the app is showing its age. Flutter, the framework it’s built on, allows for cross-platform development, which is why it looks like an Android app rather than an iOS app. This can be irritating, especially when there are free or native apps that offer similar functionality with live activities.

Another issue is that while they have access to so much data and nuance in exercises, not all of that gets exposed through the export function. When you export your data, you receive a limited set of information. While the export does contain some valuable data, it could be much more extensive for those looking to perform their own data analysis.

In summary, I think Macrofactor's workouts app is good, and I’ve used it for a long time, but it has become incredibly fussy to navigate. I wish they would adopt the same perspective they did with Macrofactor, which focuses on quick food entry. The workouts app, particularly in terms of program creation, doesn’t feel quick or efficient; it feels error-prone.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-08-15, version 1.2.4*

I just got into lifting and this helps me a lot during my workouts. Wish more people used this app!

### 3/5 — Cardio

*2026-08-13, version 1.2.4*

App seems good but there’s no option to focus on and prioritize cardio

### 5/5 — Impressive

*2026-08-08, version 1.2.4*

Easy to use

### 5/5 — 10/10

*2026-08-06, version 1.2.4*

Where has this app been all my life? lol

### 4/5 — Great companion

*2026-08-06, version 1.2.4*

Great combo with the calorie app, would love better smart watch integration for sets/reps logging.

### 4/5 — IT DOES THE WORK!

*2026-08-06, version 1.2.4*

I’ve really been enjoying MacroFactor Workouts. The workout builder is clean, easy to use, and makes tracking my training simple. It’s become a big part of my routine.

The only downside is that it can be a bit buggy at times. Every now and then things don’t sync correctly or the app feels a little unstable, but nothing that completely ruins the experience.

One feature I’d love to see is an Apple Watch app. Being able to start workouts, log sets, rest timers, and track everything directly from my watch would make the experience even better and much more convenient in the gym.

Overall, it’s a great workout app with a lot of potential. Fixing the occasional bugs and adding Apple Watch support would easily make it one of the best fitness apps available.

### 3/5 — Need Apple Watch asap

*2026-08-06, version 1.2.4*

This app seems great and i would make a full switch to it…. But…. Until it’s on apple watch, i can’t. Apple watch asap please. I’ll full switch to this app the day that happens

### 2/5 — Disappointed in the lack of simple features

*2026-08-05, version 1.2.4*

The program the app built for me was so random and consisted of 8 exercises per workout. Lack of built in exercises- how does it not have pull-ups??! Progressive overload (main reason I signed up) doesn’t work. Appears to be no catalogue of workouts to choose from. I do like the interface and lock screen preview and interaction. Style over substance. Hoped for more.

### 5/5 — WO for Wonderful

*2026-08-03, version 1.2.4*

I’ve used other apps, this app allows for direct import of spreadsheets and uses Ai to determine based on rep sets what you should push (or pull) on your next set! Phenomenal.

### 5/5 — Training made easy and effective

*2026-08-02, version 1.2.4*

As a long term user of the main MacroFactor app, using workouts was a given for a test but I’ve got to say there is no turning back. After what felt like the longest plateau ever, the automated progressive overload and adaptive sets have pushed my strength and hypertrophic gains more than I would have thought I could in a short period. Well done team, you’ll have me locked in for life at this rate!

### 4/5 — Widgets

*2026-07-31, version 1.2.4*

Needs widget support. Would love to track my weight or pr on my home page. Make it easily visible and I can quickly add weight by clicking it.

### 5/5 — Love It

*2026-07-29, version 1.2.4*

Love all the features! The videos are superb! I love that I can upload my JN programs and still individualize them for equipment available at my gym or personal preference. I can add exercises not already in the library. And the way the app adapts to me and my previous workouts (suggested weight, reps, etc) can’t be beat!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Great nutrition app, unacceptable workout app support

*2026-08-07, version 1.2.4*

Ive used MacroFactor for years, and the nutrition app is excellent. That’s the only reason I’m still a customer.

The workout side has been a completely different experience. For more than a month, core functionality was broken for me. I couldn’t reliably save changes, save warm-up routines, or create a new program. I sent screen recordings, reinstalled the app, confirmed the issue persisted, followed up repeatedly, and even asked whether there was anything else I could provide to help them reproduce it.

The response was essentially the same every time: the ticket is with the developers and there is no update.

No workaround. No meaningful status update. No timeline. No proactive communication. No request for additional logs or information. No attempt to set expectations beyond saying bugs can take weeks or months.

What bothered me most was the support experience. I was eventually told that continuing to ask for updates would not speed up the developers or otherwise help my desired resolution. That completely misses the point of customer support. I was not asking support to write the code. I was asking for some level of ownership, communication, and help while a paid product was nearly unusable.

If a company knows a serious issue may take weeks or months to resolve, I would expect some proactive effort to retain and satisfy the affected customer. Instead, compensation or extended access was only mentioned after I became increasingly frustrated and raised the issue myself.

I ultimately gave up, cancelled the workout portion, and moved my training to another app.

The nutrition app is still good enough that I continue to use it, which says a lot about how strong that product is. But the workout app and the way this issue was handled have seriously damaged my confidence in MacroFactor as a whole.

If you are considering the workout app specifically, understand that if you hit a serious bug, you may be waiting a very long time with little more than “the developers have your ticket.”

### 1/5 — Using for a few months— Do not recommend

*2026-07-15, version 1.2.4*

I have been using this app for a free months and the coaches program is terrible. Neely every workout has bugs with predicting how much weight I can do and I have to fix it. You will not be paying for what is advertised on here.

For example, when doing a leg press for 450, I will be recommended to squat 375 the next week even though I only do 245 regularly.

Or I will get the kettlebell side bend at 105 lbs… even though a week ago I performed 45.

These bugs are constant and happen for most exercises despite me logging information correctly.

Developers please fix these tracking issues so I can use this app again.

### 1/5 — Smart Generation is bad

*2026-07-13, version 1.2.4*

If you have limited equipment the smart generation is bad. The app should have never released that function if they weren’t going to perfect it.

Doing upper lower split (because they don’t have ppl so it is either UL or Fullbody)

I had a leg day with one set of squats and two calf raises.

Their suggestion box are where ideas go to die. They use to be active on Reddit but not so much anymore. Half way through the year and all the hope at the start has died. I just give up. I really tried and I give up. This app has killed my motivation to workout. As I stress out about finding a program that works and isn’t silly.

### 1/5 — Asks you lots of questions then asks to pay money or delete account

*2026-06-04*

If there is no free plan be upfront about it. Why waste others time.

### 1/5 — Canceled

*2026-06-02, version 1.2.2*

I canceled day one of my two week trail, at the end of that trial I still got a force charged. This app needs reviewed by apple before being allowed to still be on the platform.

### 1/5 — No corporate oversight for employee conduct

*2026-05-13, version 1.2.0*

I am writing this review to advise others about a significant lack of professional accountability in this company's support structure.  I had a distressing experience in the app with a senior agent. I was told by both him and another agent as well as in reddit, that no escalation path exists and there is no supervisor above them to address grievances. It is a major red flag that a company forces customers to communicate solely with the individual they are complaining about with no corporate oversight.

### 1/5 — Unresponsive

*2026-05-11, version 1.1.8*

The app is unresponsive keeps using equipment I don’t have pretty much not worth anyone’s money chatgbt can do what it does because it doesn’t record properly

### 1/5 — Not user-friendly

*2026-05-11, version 1.1.8*

This thing is so confusing. It has all them teeth, but no toothbrush.

### 1/5 — Overcomplicated Trash

*2026-04-27*

Getting anything done is such a hassle. Click go done. Nooooooo click plus add filter read 1000 very similar names that are way too specific add it customize it THEN you can work one….. one exercise…..

### 1/5 — Confusing

*2026-04-27, version 1.1.8*

I don’t know if it’s because it’s promotional access but I litekay cannot adjust anything with this app. I need to change what I have and there’s no way to do that ever since I got new equipment.

### 5/5 — Takes the Guesswork Out of Strength Training

*2026-09-08, version 1.3.1*

I’m really impressed with MacroFactor Workouts so far! I love that it takes the guesswork out of my strength training by giving me a structured program with specific sets, rep ranges, RIR targets, progression, recovery days, and even planned deloads. I completed my first workout today and loved being able to track everything as I went. The app is easy to follow at the gym and shows exactly which muscles I’m training. I already use MacroFactor for nutrition, so having my nutrition and strength training organized this well feels like the perfect combination for my fitness goals. Excited to see my progress over the next several weeks! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

### 5/5 — Didn’t know you played like that Jeffrey

*2026-09-06, version 1.3.1*

Absolutely smashed me to bits. Bent me right over and progressively overloaded me

### 5/5 — Great for beginners

*2026-09-05, version 1.3.1*

Intuitive and easy to understand

### 5/5 — Algorithm seems off

*2026-09-03, version 1.3.0*

I like a lot of things about this app. But the algorithm needs work. It either makes huge jumps in reps (eg previous week did 100lbs for 6 reps, 0 RIR), next week it increases the weight to 105. It expects me to get 12 reps with 2 left in the tank. Just doesn’t make sense. Then on my last week in a cycle previous week I get to 10 reps with 2 RIR, following week same weight but suddenly it thinks I can only get to 5 reps with same 2 RIR. I don’t want to have to do the thinking and adjust everything, that’s what the algorithm is for but it needs work

### 5/5 — I love Jeff

*2026-09-01, version 1.2.7*

Genuinely such a good app. Simple and easy to navigate UI, great workout recommendations, and best of all easy workout swaps for when a machine is taken. Easy 10/10

### 5/5 — It’s not even close

*2026-08-28, version 1.2.7*

This is the most thoughtful workout app I have ever used. Better than trying to use AI to make my own workout plan.

### 5/5 — 5 stars

*2026-08-23, version 1.2.4*

Very intuitive app!

### 5/5 — Apple Watch対応希望

*2026-08-22*

とてもお世話になっているアプリ。マクロファクターとの併用でしっかり結果が身体に現れている。ワークアウトの方も早急にApple Watchに対応してほしい。

### 5/5 — Love this - it’s sophisticated but easy to use

*2026-08-21, version 1.2.4*

This lives up to the normal MacroFactor app. Super useful thanks

### 5/5 — Perfect except one thing

*2026-08-20, version 1.2.4*

Would be perfect if it let you change what day of the week the app starts on. I wish I could change it to Sunday rather than the default Monday. Seems like it would be a simple thing to add
