## What is MacroFlow?

MacroFlow is a privacy-first nutrition tracker with everything you need to track calories and macros. Free forever, with no subscriptions, no ads, no accounts, and no data tracking. Just fast, powerful nutrition tracking that respects your privacy.

I built MacroFlow because I was frustrated with apps that lock essential features behind subscriptions. Calorie tracking should be free. Barcode scanning shouldn’t be behind a paywall. And your health data should belong to you, not advertisers.

What’s free in MacroFlow:

All core tracking features are included at no cost:

• Barcode scanning (with OpenFoodFacts and USDA FDC databases)
• Food database search (with OpenFoodFacts and USDA FDC databases)
• Full calorie & macro tracking
• Weight logging
• Intermittent fasting feature
• Statistics and charts
• Apple Health integration
• Data export
• Multiple units
• Customisable goals
• Measurement tracking
• Daily reminder check-lists
• Customise week date starts, preferred databases, favourite stats, macro targets, visual elements

MacroFlow uses free food databases and stores all data locally on your device. Nothing is uploaded, sold, or shared. If you ever uninstall or switch devices, you can export and import your data yourself, no accounts needed.

MacroFlow Supporter (One-Time, Lifetime Access)

This will give you lifetime access to a premium food database, Edamam, with faster search results and more accurate data from barcode scans. I wanted to provide a way for users to get better, reliable data beyond the existing solutions but unfortunately this comes at a cost to myself that I need to cover somehow. You will also get iOS widgets, an Apple Watch companion app and micronutrient tracking (vitamins and minerals). You can try this for free for two days at any time inside the app, no payment info is required.

For users who want to support development and gain access to a premium food database, MacroFlow Supporter is a one-time payment upgrade that grants:
• Access to the Edamam food database for expanded food search
• Advanced barcode scanning powered by Edamam
• iOS widgets for your home and lock screen
• Apple Watch companion app
• Additional visual customisation options for app colours and logo
• Micronutrient tracking, including vitamins and minerals

The Supporter upgrade exists to cover the cost of the premium food API and Apple Developer fees, not to restrict basic tracking. You can continue using MacroFlow’s core features for free, forever.

### 5/5 — Everything I was looking for

*2026-03-23*

This app is amazing and does everything I need while not collecting data. It took me far, far too long to find an app that could simply track fat, protein, and carbs and a calorie total. The water, fiber, and sodium tracking along with graphs for everything are just a bonus!

A feature that I would find helpful is if when you are inputting a food in Quick Add or Manual Entry, something would indicate how many calories the macros you have entered in so far add up to without actually auto-filling the calories field, using the 4-9-4 estimate most nutrition labels use. There is a greyed out 0 in the calories field, and if that updated to a greyed out 40 after entering 10g of carbs, that would be incredible.

But I have zero complaints and plan to support the developer!

**Developer response:** Hi, thanks so much for such positive feedback, I really appreciate it! I love your suggestion for gently auto-calculating the calories from the macros in the Quick Add and Manual Entry, I will look in to working this in to the app!

### 5/5 — Better than Most!

*2026-02-09*

I absolutely love this app, I found it due to its competitors (MyFitnessPal, LoseIt!, etc…) all going “premium” and putting key features behind a paywall. While the app isn’t perfect, it gets the job done, is simple, and keeps me focused on the goal at hand!

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for the positive feedback, it means a lot!

### 1/5 — Really bad app

*2026-01-27*

No food ever comes up when trying to add. Not even eggs! When you scan a food, the title comes up but everything is inaccurate

**Developer response:** Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately the data that I am able to get from barcode scans is currently limited to what we get back from OpenFoodFacts. I use it because it’s free but the data is crowdsourced by users and I’m learning it’s typically not great for US based users.

The next update (coming soon) will expand barcode scanning to USDA FoodData which should be better for US users. In the meantime you can select this DB in ‘Search Foods’ where you may have better luck.

I apologise for the poor experience in this case but if you liked anything else about the app at all I’d really appreciate if you’d reconsider the 1 star review, or if you’d like to try again after the next update I’d appreciate that too. Otherwise thank you for taking the time to try the app and for leaving feedback.

Thomas

### 1/5 — Scanner is way off

*2026-01-13*

Barcode scanner records either 100g or 1g and isn’t even close on macros. Have to manually enter every item which makes the app useless

**Developer response:** Hi Blergz, I appreciate the feedback. The data we get from scanned barcodes comes from the OpenFoodFacts database which relies on user submitted values, so unfortunately it's only as good as the data that gets entered to it. It is usually accurate in my experience but it may be less so for US food. I use it because it's free, and it allows me to keep the app free too. The diary entry will default to 100g / 1g when there's no serving size available from the database. I am actively searching for ways to improve this. If there's anything else you did like about the app, I'd appreciate you reconsidering the 1 star review, but I understand if not. Thanks for taking the time to try it out and let me know if there's anything else I can do.
