## What is Madeira Discovery?

Land anywhere. Know the place in thirty seconds.

You step out of the station in a city you've never seen. It's half past eight, you're hungry, and everything around you is a guess.

Open DiscoverX. It shows what's actually open right now, how far it is, whether it takes cards, and whether you'll make it before the kitchen closes.

No account. No sign-up. It just works, in any country.

WHAT'S AROUND YOU, RIGHT NOW
Six categories, anywhere on earth: sights, places to stay, restaurants and cafés, beaches, airports and stations, and hiking trails. Results appear the moment they're found — no spinner while photos load.

THE ONE QUESTION THAT ACTUALLY MATTERS
Tap "Open now" and see everything open around you at this moment, across every category, nearest first. Filter to what's open with outdoor seating, free Wi-Fi, card payment, wheelchair access or vegetarian options. Stop walking to closed doors.

KNOW A PLACE BEFORE YOU GO
Opening hours with a live open/closed badge. Address, phone, walking time, cuisine, price level. Whether there's Wi-Fi, a restroom, a baby changing table, air conditioning, or a dog-friendly terrace. For notable places, a short description from Wikipedia in your language — so you know what you're looking at, not just where it is.

WHAT ELSE IS RIGHT HERE
Every place shows what's within a short walk of it. A viewpoint, a café eighty metres away, a trailhead just past it. That's how one pin turns into an afternoon.

PLAN THE DAY, NOT JUST THE NEXT STOP
Pick the places you want to see, say how many hours you have, and DiscoverX builds a walking route in a sensible order — with arrival times, the walk between each stop, and an honest note about what didn't fit. One tap hands the whole route to Apple Maps.

THE MOMENT YOU ARRIVE
Weather with pressure and storm warnings. Live exchange rates. Which side of the road they drive on and what to tip. And the two things you always need and can never find: the nearest cash machine and the nearest restroom.

FROM YOUR HOME SCREEN AND SIRI
A widget showing how many places are open nearby and where the closest cash machine is — on your Home Screen and Lock Screen. Or just ask: "Hey Siri, what's open nearby?"

BUILT TO WORK WITH NO SIGNAL
Favourites live on your device, photos included, so they open in airplane mode. Premium adds whole downloadable cities — land, switch off roaming, and still know where everything is.

NO ADS. NO TRACKING. NO ACCOUNT.
DiscoverX has no analytics, no advertising and no third-party trackers. There is no DiscoverX server, so there is nothing for us to collect. Your favourites and downloads never leave your phone.

FREE, AND WHAT PREMIUM ADDS
Everything above is free: all six categories, place details, opening hours, photos, the map, favourites, city search, Open Now, weather, currency, local tips, widgets and Siri.

DiscoverX Premium adds:

Offline city packs — download a whole city, use it with no connection
Unlimited day plans (free plans hold three stops)
A 20 km search radius (free reaches 10 km)

Available as a weekly or monthly subscription, or as a one-time Lifetime Access purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period, and can be managed any time in your App Store account settings.

Terms of Use: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

Place data © OpenStreetMap contributors and Apple Maps. Photos and descriptions from Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia. Weather from Open-Meteo.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.9 — 2026-10-24

• A spoken welcome when you open the app. It respects the silent switch
  and never interrupts your music.

• The classic navigation bar is back as the default. The sliding
navigation is still there in Settings, and now it explains itself the
first time you turn it on — you can replay that walkthrough any time.

• Fixed an issue with subscription access.

• Trail titles now translate correctly in every language.

• Fixed the layout on larger screens, where the third column of trails
  could be cut off.

• Stability improvements and other bug fixes.

### 1.8 — 2026-10-23

Madeira in 3D.

• 3D TERRAIN MAPS — Every trail and every place now sits on real elevation
data. Tilt, rotate and see the ridges and ravines the way they actually
  are.

• ONE MAP FOR THE WHOLE ISLAND — All 655 places on a single 3D map:
viewpoints, beaches, trailheads, parking, pharmacies and more. Filter by
category, tap any pin for details and directions. Works offline.

• 3D WEATHER ISLAND — Watch the weather move across Madeira: cloud, rain,
wind and lightning, drawn over the island itself. Ten measuring points,
because Funchal and the north coast are rarely having the same day. Drag
the time slider to see the next 42 hours.

• RECORD YOUR WALK — Follow your route as it draws itself on the 3D map,
with distance, ascent and time. Saved as GPX, and from then on it is that
  trail's line.

• TRAIL STATUS — Open, restricted or closed, always shown with the date it
was last checked, and a link to the official source.

• BEFORE YOU SET OFF — The app now warns you if you would finish after
dark, if gusts are dangerous on exposed sections, or if rain has made the
levada stone slippery. Trails that are not recommended for anyone afraid
  of heights are marked.

• SEA CONDITIONS — Wave height and sea temperature for six coastal spots,
so you know before you drive whether the natural pools are swimmable.

• WHAT TO DO TODAY — Suggestions built from the current weather, the sea
and the trail statuses, each one with the reason it was chosen.

• FOOD, DRINK AND HISTORY — A guide to espetada, poncha, bolo do caco,
Madeira wine and the rest, the island's main sights, and how Madeira got
  here since 1419.

• LIVE WEBCAMS — Watch the marina, the coast and the mountains right now.

• A NEW WAY TO NAVIGATE — The icon bar is gone. Touch the bottom of the
screen and a glass slider rises; drag to the section you want. More of
the page, less chrome. Prefer the old bar? Keep it, in Settings.

• DARK MODE — The app now follows your phone, day and night.

• AUTOMATIC LANGUAGE — No more language buttons: the app uses your phone's
language in English, Portuguese or Hungarian.

• Fixed the small maps that were showing an error image instead of the map.

• Other bug fixes and improvements.
