### 1/5 — Complete trash!

*2022-07-21, version 1.2.1*

The MAF method is wonderful. But the earphones and the app are garbage. When I contacted the company, they refuse refund of help.
Stick with a company that knows how to do heart rate monitoring.

### 5/5 — Works great out of the box with my iPhone 11

*2022-03-26, version 1.2.1*

Works as advertised. Heart rate spot on with my Garmin watch. Music plays and sounds good. Voice updates working perfect.

### 1/5 — Waste of time and money

*2021-04-11, version 1.2.1*

After linking with my phone, No sound comes out of the earbuds. HR measures wildly inconsistent over the same workout done on consecutive days - is my heartbeat 203? 85? The app told me both within seconds of each other.

Great idea but a useless product.

**Developer response:** Hi, really sorry to hear of your bad experience. Both issues you have had can been solved pretty easily. The sound issue is because they HR+ haven't been paired with your phone. The heart rate accuracy is because the earbuds are not sitting well in your ear so you need to adjust the gels. Reach out to use on burnfat@philmaffetone.com and we can go through in detail. I am confident we can get them working well for you.

### 4/5 — Pretty good

*2021-04-04, version 1.2.1*

I’ve been using the MAF HR+ headphones/app for three weeks now, and have not run into the issues that come up in the other reviews. The app is solidly OK - not super pretty, but definitely functional. I’ve had a few issues with heart rate not be captured correctly (first time - showing a ridiculously high heart rate from the start; both other times - stuck at 72). Both were solved by wiping out my ears and/or wiping off the earbud. The updating process is the only thing that bugs me - the app doesn’t warn you that a firmware update is happening, so you might turn off your headphones during a run and later find out you interrupted an update. And you would only know that if you are specifically looking at the tech info.

So the app is fine. The value of having my heart rate called out in my ears vastly outweighs the slight clunkiness of the app (and, who cares if it’s pretty? I just want it to work, which it does).

### 1/5 — App not ready for the public!

*2021-02-27, version 1.2.1*

I purchased the MAF headphones after listening to multiple interviews by Phil Maffetone, admiring his research and approach to nutrition & fitness. I figured, “if this guy is the pioneer, his product must be the best”. I was wrong. Mainly because the technology of the app is not adequate. The app is essential to the functionality of the earphones and simply would not work. I emailed customer support (whom was helpful), and over a three week period they asked me to troubleshoot various issues that the app was having. It was immensely frustrating and not what I would expect from elite athletic technology. I ended up returning the headphones. The idea is probably good, but not yet ready for mass marketing. Phil Maffetone seems like an amazing guy, but unfortunately his HR headphones aren’t. (at least not yet...)
Check out the app first and save your money until these reviews change!

### 1/5 — Nope

*2021-02-15, version 1.2.1*

If you want quality wireless earbuds, buy quality wireless earbuds.
If you want a HR monitor, get a quality HR monitor.
These are decent wireless earbuds, but the HR monitor does NOT work, no matter the sizing.
The coaching whistle is EXCRUCIATING, I have nerve damage so that’s not useful. Controls are opaque & fussy, non intuitive. Training program is: Slow & steady wins the race, eat keto.
Too runner-centric, though they are working on that. They have a walking program, but I’m just done with it.
Buds have too much wind noise on a bike outside.
Not worth it, to me, as a mostly outdoor varied exerciser, not a runner At All.
Running nuts & techies might find it useful, I am neither.

### 5/5 — Review for app and headphones.

*2021-02-08, version 1.2.1*

I am very pleased with everything about the app. The appearance, functionality, and ease of of set-up.

The headphones were pretty easy to fit and seem to be of decent quality. To be honest, I’m not sure why these aren’t more popular. I was skeptical when I didn’t see a bunch of positive reviews. From what I’ve gathered listening to a bunch of testimonials about MAF, it seems to be the way to go, and it seems like it would be imperative to get these as soon as you start.

### 1/5 — Set up problems

*2020-12-28, version 1.2.1*

I agree, the initial set up to use the app is horrible. I’m hoping customer service can help. It should not be so difficult!

**Developer response:** Hi Suzanne, sorry you found the App hard to set up. You are quite right, it shouldn't be difficult. If you can come back to us at burnfat@philmaffetone.com we should be able to set you on the right track. In the meantime we have added a quick start guide to the website here https://philmaffetone.com/earbuds/instructions/ that should help as well.

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2020-12-19, version 1.2.1*

It doesn’t pair with the Garmin Forerunner 735XT at all! It did pair with my iPhone 12, but It didn’t play my music from my playlist! Highly disappointed in this product as I’m a firm believer in the MAF method. Phil you need to disassociate yourself from bioconnect as they are giving your name a bad reputation with inferior products!

**Developer response:** Hi Carl, very sorry that you had issues. The HR+ will work with Garmin watches that support BLE (like the Feenix 6) but in their older models Garmin use a proprietary protocol called Ant+ rather than the industry standard. In regard to the sound issues the HR+ have two channels, one for audio and one for heart rate. The heart rate channel needs to pair with the App and the audio with the phone. It sounds like the audio in your phone hadn't been paired. There is a video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6_0iqKHta8o that shows how to do this.

### 2/5 — Skip it

*2020-11-23, version 1.2.1*

I have tried my best with this and the HR+ earbuds, as I have a lot of respect for Maffetone and his methods. The whole setup is just annoying. The earbuds are inaccurate, and this app is inconsistent at best. For example, with a setting to give me an update every 2 minutes (pace, distance, HR etc), it will just give an update apparently when it feels like it. An update at 4 minutes, then at 10 minutes, then maybe 12 minutes, then 22 minutes. I will be finding a new solution. I gave this a solid month of use, and I’m done. Save yourself a headache and find something else. As far as the HR+, I’ve asked for a refund. I’d do better with the $99 back in my pocket and just going by feel on my runs. It’s a shame, because I think the whole thing could be really good. It feels like they’ve rushed it and used a subpar product to pair with.

Update: I am adding a star, simply because of the customer service from these guys. They worked with me in trying to find a better fit on the earbuds (apparently this was throwing off the reading), unfortunately I have not been able to get it to work well for me. They are going to refund me. Again, not satisfied with the app or earbuds, but customer service is top notch.
