## What is MagicBPM?

Know the tempo of any song. And its name. Instantly.

MagicBPM listens through your iPhone's microphone and measures the BPM (beats per minute) of whatever's playing, in real time. Point it at a speaker, an instrument, or a record, and watch the tempo lock in. Tap Identify and Apple's music recognition puts a name to the track. When you need to keep time yourself, switch to the built-in metronome.

FIND THE TEMPO
• Live BPM detection: a dual-engine detector (autocorrelation + onset peak-picking) tuned for real music, so you get a confident reading even in a noisy room. A confidence indicator tells you when the reading is solid.
• Half and double tempo: some songs can be felt two ways. Flip the reading to half or double time with one tap under the number, and MagicBPM hints which alternative is likelier.
• Live tempogram: a scrolling heatmap of tempo over time. See the beat strengthen, drift, or shift between sections at a glance.
• Tap tempo: nothing playing? Tap along and MagicBPM averages your taps into a steady BPM.
• Dial it in: set a tempo range, pick a detection engine, choose a capture mode, and tune the noise gate to match your environment.

NAME THE SONG
• Tap Identify while you listen and MagicBPM names what's playing, powered by Apple's music recognition.
• See the title, artist, and cover art right next to the live BPM, and open the song in Apple Music with a tap.

KEEP THE BEAT
• Built-in metronome: set a tempo by tapping, typing, or nudging it ±1, then press play for a rock-steady click. Eight time signatures with an accented downbeat, and it keeps playing even with the ringer on silent.
• Subdivisions: practice against eighths, triplets, or sixteenths, with the in-between clicks pitched under the beat so you never lose the pulse. Free for everyone.
• Compound time that counts properly: 6/8, 9/8 and 12/8 group in threes, and 7/8 lets you pick 2+2+3 or 3+2+2.
• Vibrate on beat: feel every tick as a haptic tap, with a firmer pulse on the accented downbeat. Great when a click is hard to hear.

FREE, WITH AN OPTIONAL PRO UPGRADE
MagicBPM is free and supported by ads. MagicBPM Pro is a single one-time purchase. No subscription, ever. Pro adds:
• Live song detection: songs are identified automatically as they play. Hands-free, no tapping.
• Detected Songs history: every song you identify is saved on your iPhone with its BPM and artwork. Pro unlocks the list, and opens any track in Apple Music.
• Twelve metronome sounds: woodblock, claves, xylophone, cowbell, bass guitar, hi-hat, tambourine, shaker, triangle and more, alongside the standard acoustic click. Preview every one before you buy.
• Ad-free: removes every ad from the app.
Restore your purchase anytime on any device signed in to your Apple Account.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• Tempo detection happens entirely on your iPhone. Your microphone audio is analyzed in real time and discarded. It is never recorded or uploaded.
• Song identification, when you use it, sends a compact acoustic fingerprint of the sound, never the audio itself, to Apple's Shazam service to name the track.
• Songs you identify are saved to your Detected Songs history on your iPhone and nowhere else. You can clear the list at any time, Pro or not.
• No account, no sign-in.

MADE FOR

### 5/5 — Super accurate metronome in a free app!

*2026-07-02*

I've tried several metronomes, and this one stands out because the metronome is hyper-accurate. It never lags, stutters, or ticks incorrectly after running for a while.

The mic beat detection is also decent, it listens in real-time and does a really decent job analyzing the attacks to find your BPM.

And best of all, that the app is totally free. It says it is ad supported, but I haven’t seen any ads so far!

**Developer response:** Thanks for this, it genuinely made our week.

The metronome timing is the part we have sweated hardest, so hearing that it holds steady over long runs is the best feedback we could get.

One honest correction: the app is ad supported, so ads do exist. They only appear at natural breaks, never while you are listening or the metronome is running, which is probably why you have not hit one yet. MagicBPM Pro removes them with a single one time purchase if you would rather not see any.

Beat detection keeps getting better each release. If you ever hit a track it reads wrong, email support@magicbpm.com with the song name and we will look into it.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-24

Sharper readings from speakers and car systems, and a metronome that stays put.

• Better tempo detection over Bluetooth speakers, car audio and headsets. Those inputs hand the app audio at a lower sample rate, and an internal check was quietly discarding good detections because of it. It no longer does.
• The metronome no longer goes quiet on you. Changing the time signature, or leaving it running for a long stretch, could stop the click without stopping the metronome. Fixed, with tests to keep it fixed.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-02

The metronome grows up.

• Subdivisions: practice against eighths, triplets, or sixteenths, with the in-between clicks pitched under the beat so you never lose the pulse. Free for everyone.
• Compound time that counts properly: 6/8, 9/8 and 12/8 now group in threes instead of clicking flat quarter notes, and 7/8 lets you pick 2+2+3 or 3+2+2. The beat dots follow the grouping.
• Twelve new click sounds in MagicBPM Pro: woodblock, claves, xylophone, cowbell, bass guitar, hi-hat, tambourine, shaker, triangle and more. Each one is modeled on how the real instrument rings, not stretched from a sample.
• Hear before you buy: tap play beside any sound to audition it, locked or not, and swap sounds while the metronome is running.
• Songs you identify are now saved on your iPhone from the very first one, free or Pro. Pro unlocks the list. Either way the history stays on your device and you can clear it whenever you want.
• Plus a smoother beat indicator, and time signature and subdivision menus that stay usable at fast tempos.

• MagicBPM Pro now includes live song detection (songs are identified automatically as they play) and a Detected Songs history with the BPM of every track, alongside ad-free.
• Half and double tempo: flip the reading to half or double time with one tap under the BPM number, with a hint for which is likelier.
• Vibrate on beat: the metronome can now tap out every tick as a haptic, with a firmer pulse on the accented downbeat.
• Plus tempo-detection accuracy improvements and fixes.
